《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 009

Once the tree was chopped up and moved out of the way we finally sat down to rest. The smell of burning flesh permeated the air as the sun came up and off in the distance we could see the camp moving down the road towards us. Gwaine and Lancelot were both worn out from all the work but they had plenty of booze so they didn’t complain much. However, they were so plastered by the time Arthur arrived that a few of the knights had to hoist them over the saddles of their horses.
I ended up having to explain why there was a man tied up next to the road but after hearing my story he realized that it was probably Gwaine's idea and had the man thrown into one of the carriages where he was questioned as we moved east. Medea and Lily were both riding along on my horse so Lily returned to the pendant for a while while I rode on the horse with Medea.
After several more long hours of riding Arthur pointed out the eastern fort. Unlike the western fort it was built to work a city. The fort itself was the size of camelot in width and was filled to the brim with houses. Soldiers ran through the wide streets within the fort and several catapults were lined up just inside the walls. What didn’t seem right though was the fact that a large horde of soldiers were attacking the fort from three sides. The enemy soldiers were doing their best to ram open the gates of the fort but every time they tried they were shot down by a flurry of arrows.
Seeing this we hastened our charge towards the fort. Despite seeing it from so far away it was probably another hour's ride away. There was very little chance of us being able to mount an ambush as the enemy could easily see us in the distance. In fact, many of the enemy troops turned away from the fort and began to charge in our general direction.

Though this looked bad for us, the enemy was actually the ones in trouble. One of the knights which I was told had to have been Galahad jumped from the wall of the fort and began launching enemy soldiers away from him and the fort with a giant sword that acted more as a club than an actual sword. The enemy couldn’t even get close to him as the hulking mass of a man smashed through anyone who even dared to get near him.
As we charged towards the fort we watched in awe as the superhuman Galahad destroyed the enemy onslaught singlehandedly on the south side of the fort. On the other side however, our knights were having some difficulties to the north of the fort. The enemy, made up of a mix of human warriors and supernatural beings, were beginning to climb their way into the fort using ladders, rope, and whatever else they could find. The archers were unable to keep up and the soldiers couldn’t knock them down fast enough. That is until a giant of a man which I was informed was Galehaut sliced through the entirety of the enemy soldiers climbing up the fort wall with a single slash of his blade. The blade he carried was different from many of the others I had seen as the blade itself was over two meters in length. Following his slash several shots of lightning pierced the ground outside the fort, blasting any soldier unlucky enough to be close to the random strikes.
It was a far worse warzone than I had experienced at the western fort. There were just so many soldiers dying around the fort that it was alarming as to why they were even trying to fight us. It didn’t help that as soon as we met the enemy soldiers charging at us from the fort they were slaughtered by our men who had already prepared a volley of arrows just for them. They all fell to the ground without even showing an ounce of strength.

“Makes you feel kind of bad for them, right?” Gwaine asked me as he rode by me.
“I guess. Though it doesn’t make sense why they're still fighting us when it seems so hopeless.” I replied.
“Sometimes people don’t make sense. When you have so much pent up rage that you feel as if nothing can stop you, all reason gets cast into the fire. Places like this where everyone is fighting with all they have you can smell the hate permeating in the air like poison gas that infects everyone who breathes it in.” Gwaine said.
“I suppose you would know better than I would.” I said.
“Anyways, I would prepare to fight. Since you have that child riding with you it would be better if you stayed in the middle. Best to keep children away from a battlefield.” Gwaine said before riding up to the front of the caravan so that he could help lead the charge.
Seeing that he was probably right I slowed my horse down to a walk and waded back into the center of the caravan as Arthur began charging full speed towards the fort, followed by every knight behind him. Medea wasn’t happy that I had listened to Gwaine for some reason but she perked right up the moment I gave her one of the crossbows I had looted the night before. Sure enough she fired it at the enemy soldiers, killing one of them. I was both proud and disturbed by this.
Clashing with the enemy soldiers the horsemen trampled over them one by one while the knights on the ground brought their swords and spears against the soldiers left standing. It wasn’t much of a fight as we had the advantage. Maybe it was the fact that I had become desensitized to this kind of warfare from all those medieval movies I watched as a kid. It didn’t matter though, I did my best to take down as many as I could before reaching the fort gate.
As we approached Galahad quickly cleared us a path so that the gatekeepers could open the door and let us in. Now that I could get a good look at him I noticed that Galahad didn’t look like someone who could throw a person twenty meters in the air. He was short, somewhat toned, and to put it nicely, a pretty boy. If I didn’t know we were in 490’s England I would have thought he was part of a boyband. His face was smooth, clean shaven, and without a single wrinkle. Not a scratch was on him and he wasn’t covered in dirt or shit like everyone else. If I had to guess, he was probably waxed from the neck down, like a french speedo model with his own cologne line.

Lone: The Wanderer [Rewrite]
Nine-to-five. The daily grind. Life. Painful years of school. Working as a slave for some undeserving corporate big-wig. The monotonous life of unemployment. We all experience this in one way or another, and we can all conclude one thing: it's dull. Such a fact rings true even for the fabled Lone Immortus, a powerful nine-tailed Golden Foxkin. However, what would you do if your monotony was suddenly ground to a halt and you were thrown out of your comfort zone along with a young girl forgotten by time? Perhaps you might have done things differently, been more organised, immediately died, gained control of the world in a matter of days, but this is Lone's tale, not yours. Watching two insecure people struggle to survive and find their place in an unfamiliar land just might be enjoyable to witness. Who knows? One thing's for certain: it won't be an easy path for them to tread, and what could possibly be more entertaining than watching people endure hardships and grow? I know of at least eight gods that would answer with, 'Absolutely nothing.' I wonder, after seeing this journey from start to finish, how would you answer?
