《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》War - Part 001

For hours we marched on the road north. I would constantly have to get the horse to stop veering away from the road but it wasn’t much of an issue. At the front of our caravan was Arthur and Merlin riding side by side. Though some of the knights were getting restless due to the amount of time they were walking or riding. Eventually though we stopped to eat.
The knights that rode in the carts passed out salted jerky, salted dried fish, and frsh garlic to everyone which mostly tasted like sweaty balls. The amount of salt coating them was enough to make my entire mouth dry up. Many of the other knights felt the same and would drink water with every bite to wash it down. Medea wasn’t too keen on it either but she ate it all the same as she didn’t seem to want to complain.
Gwaine was probably one of the few knights that didn’t mind the taste. In fact he would ask to see if anyone didn’t want theirs so that he could get more. Though I knew exactly why he was able to enjoy it. He had been drinking since we started riding and had gone through three waterskins of beer.
Many of the knights wanted to know what the plan was because at the rate we were going we would be arriving before sunrise the next day. Arthur heard their gripes and had them all gather so that he could explain. Basically we would be arriving before sunrise so that the enemy doesn’t know that reinforcements had arrived. They would then attack next thinking that they outnumbered us but in fact, it would be the opposite. Any other plans would be decided upon evaluating the situation.
This made many of the knights happy so none of them complained anymore. That said, they were all still pretty tired. Those who were walking complained about their feet hurting while those on horses complained about their asses hurting. Then you had those who were on the carts and slept most of the time like the cheeky bastards they were. Medea ended up falling asleep on the saddle and I had to ride in such a way to keep her from falling off. This didn’t feel all that great as it just hurt my back a ton.

Thankfully, she woke up after a couple of hours because the saddle was uncomfortable to sleep on. This saved my back a bit of pain but it was still hurting from being in such an uncomfortable position for so long. A few more hours passed and we finally arrived at the fort. We went in under the cover of darkness and did our best to not make any noise. To the east of the fort was a small forest and to the west was a large cliff face. Continuing north there was a large set of lights that looked to be an encampment surrounded by wooden spikes.
Since there was no imminent threat pretty much everyone found a place to rest and went to sleep. I wasn’t all that lucky as all of the good resting spots were taken. Thus, I had to lean my back up against a support beam inside the fort. Medea ended up sleeping on my lap with my coat covering both of us for warmth. Despite how disturbingly uncomfortable it was I fell asleep rather quickly.
The next morning I was awoken by the sound of a bell. Unable to really move due to Medea laying on my lap I looked round to see that knights were scrambling to get into their armor. Lifting Medea off my lap I scooted out from under her and left my coat on her while I checked out what was going on. Going up one of the ladders to the balcony I looked out to see around five hundred men dressed in fur armor charging at us from the encampment.
Jumping down the ladder I woke Medea up and put on my jacket. She ran off to find somewhere to hide while the battle began. Archers readied themselves on the balcony and began firing as soon as the charging army was close enough in a volley. Some twenty-ish men fell and a good thirty were slowed down by the arrows but the rest continued to charge.

It was then that the archers started to realize something. The men they shot were getting back up as if they were never shot in the first place. This time they dipped the tips of their arrows in oil and lit them on fire before firing. Many of the arrows pierced the oncoming warriors, causing them to fall to the ground. Though only a few of them actually stayed down. The others got up and continued the charge. Those that weren’t struck by any arrows had reached the wall of the fortress.
As if they were made of mud the warriors ascended the wall of the fort with loud suction sounds. The moment one of them reached the top of the wall and poked its head over the balcony I drew my sword and decapitated the warrior. The warrior's body became stiff and fell to the earth where all but its clothes shattered as if it was made of unset bricks. Many of the other knights were doing the same as me though many of them weren’t having as much luck.
“They’re runic golems! You have to destroy the rune carved into their bodies or else they’ll just keep coming.” One of the knights yelled. Though I couldn’t tell who. It was then that Merlin of all people ran up to me.
“What do you want?” I yelled as I decapitated another one of the warriors.
“Micheal, your sword was made to absorb magic so you’ll have an easier time with these than the rest.” he said, ignoring my snarky attitude.
“And?” I replied.
“And so you can hit them and they die. The rest are just hitting them and pissing them off.” Merlin started with a bit of a crass voice.
“So you want me to kill all of them?” I asked as I wasn’t sure if I was the right person to do that.
“Yes, it’s too crowded for Arthur to use the full power of Excalibur and most of the other knights' swords are meant for specific instances. Accept for Galahad who gets all of his strength from his chastity. Anyways, get to it!” Merlin said in sort of a tangent before he snapped back to the moment.
