《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》Witch Trials - Part 049

Scott walked long with Director Langston wearing a look of rage that he had only shown once before. Strangely though, he wasn’t particularly angry at any one person. He just seemed angry at everything. That was exactly what the Director wanted. He was far too enraged to think rationally so he would make for an excellent pawn.
Director Langston led Scott to Merlin's office where as soon as Merlin saw him he walked over to him to give him a hug. Scott went in for the hug, he could use it after all. However, just as he went for the hug Scott turned his hand into a fist and punched Merlin in the jaw. Director Langston stood there in shock as Merlin staggered backwards while holding his jaw in surprise. Both of them were shocked at Scott’s reaction, but even more so by the fact that he hurt Merlin.
“You deserved that and you know it!” Scott said while giving Merlin a hateful glare. Merlin stood back up straight and began chuckling which slowly turned into maniacal laughter.
“Do you know exactly how many people have successfully struck me, Scott?” Merlin asked as soon as he stopped laughing.
“No, I do not.” Scott replied somewhat respectfully.
“Three people, including yourself now. You probably just hit the most powerful person alive and I have to say that I like it. It shows that you have bravery… or stupidity.” Merlin said as he began predating around the room.
“So?”
“Would you perhaps want to help me retrieve Mordred?” Merlin asked with a treacherous grin.
“What’s in it for me? Because I really couldn’t care less about her.” Scott stated in a distrusting tone.
“You’ll get to kill your apprentice and I’ll let you take your wife somewhere so that you two can live out the rest of your days together.” Merlin said positively.

“Fuck off!” Scott said as he began heading for the door. Director Langston stood in his path and stared daggers at him.
“I’ll kill Lou Barret on my own terms and I’m taking my wife whether you let me or not.” Scott said.
“Then do as you wish, Scott Langston.” Merlin said. Director Langston stepped out of his way. Even though he barely showed it, Director Langston’s legs were shaking out of fear. As soon as Scott Left, Merlin sat down at his desk and began reading through some of the papers stacked there.
“Is it really okay for him to do as he pleases?” Director Langston asked.
“He already stated what he was going to do. His desires line up with ours so I have no problem letting him do it his way. In the end he will only live to serve our purpose.” Merlin said with a smile.
“... I would disagree. He just seems far too emotion driven.”
“That is why he can be useful. He’s easy to confuse and control. It’s why we allowed him to speak to your daughter. Now we just need to wait and prepare.” Merlin said as he set the paper back down on his desk.
“As you wish.” the Director replied and left the office.
Merlin sat in the office for a moment in silence before opening his top desk drawer. There was a single book inside, Le Morte d’Arthur. Opening up to a picture of the Lady of the Lake he began to read of her appearance and all that is mentioned of her. As he did the world felt quiet to him. Not a single voice could be heard by him as he continued reading.

This is a story of two old men trying to free from the shackle of their destiny set in a future only to await their impending doom. This is a story of a dead god, and of a storyteller, trying to break from the bonds of the past. And as their stories go, one of them will face the events that unfold in their distant past, as the other one will unveil its mystery predicted by its future. Is it a mistake to challenge fate, after all? *** The world-building is set upon on the universal scale, with dungeon and old-style fantasy. It has a progression that follows with the consistency of a dungeon setting, although it's not what you call a dungeon, but a function of a crystal. There's a lot to take in this novel, but that's all within my intention. I have always enjoyed challenging conventional ideas. The cover is not mine, it's just temporary.
