《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》Not Forgotten - Part 043

“Excuse us, we’re with the Agency. What seems to be the problem?” I asked while pulling my badge out and showing it to the Harpy.
The Harpy man looked at my badge for a moment before turning back to Dolfly. “Well now I have someone who can prosecute you already here. I saw the magic circles all over the area. Each painted with blood and inscribed with ancient resurrection magic.”
“I don’t believe that you have any proof that me or any of my students would do something like that. The only coven with knowledge of resurrection magic using blood circles was wiped out seven years... ago…” Dolfly was saying before turning towards Elysif in a dramatic fashion. I swear, are all witches this dramatic?
Elysif was almost shaking as if she was having a panic attack. “Elysif what’s wrong?” I asked as her breathing became more obvious. I went to touch her shoulder and as I did she smacked my hand away with a scream before passing out. I barely caught her as she fell.
“Damn it, Dolfly I want you to put all of your students under house arrest. Do not let them leave the building for the next forty-eight hours. Mr. Harpy I would like you to come with me. I need to know where all of the magic circles you know of are.”
“Of course.” Dolfly said without any hesitation.
“Are you not going to arrest Mr. Dolfly?” the Harpy man asked.
“I don’t have enough evidence nor do I know what is going on. Once I know the situation then I can make that decision.” I said as I carried Elysif out of the college on my back. The Harpy morphed back into that of a human figure as he walked out behind me.

He followed me back to the apartment where I laid Elysif who was still asleep in my bed. I would have put her in her own bed but I had no idea where her key was. Scott was sprawled out on the couch upon our return and wasn’t pleased by the fact that not only did we not make our rounds we also didn't bring him back any booze. Upon hearing the story from the harpy-man he understood.
“So someone has been making magic circles out of blood all over London? No bodies have been found yet it’s obvious that it was an ancient witch's magic?” Scott asked.
“Correct. I was hoping that you wouldn’t have had to look into it since it’s obvious that it was the Wiccan colleges doing.” the Harpy man said.
“Although that would be a correct statement under normal situations, this isn’t. Ancient blood magic like you described is only known by one Coven which is almost extinct. Elysif who I’m guessing passed out due to traumatic shock is one of two surviving people in that Coven.” Scott said.
“And who might the other one be?”
“Her mother. She attempted forbidden resurrection magic using an ancient form of blood magic seven years ago and was stopped by the Agency with the help of Elysif who turned on them. Since then she has been in our care. Her mother however, escaped our capture and fled to God knows where. A few of our Agents were tasked with hunting her down but either died or failed to find her.”
“So then it must be that girl's mother. She must be trying to enact some kind of revenge.”
“We don’t know that for sure yet. For now I suggest you give us a list of where you saw these magic circles and leave the rest to us.”

“I understand. Is there anything I can do to help?”
“The best thing you can do is stay safe. I suggest you and whomever you live with leave on a holiday for a few days until we can resolve this.”
“Of course.” The harpy man said before heading out the door.
“So what now?” I asked. Scott breathed out a heavy sigh.
“First, you need to go check out all of the places where the magic circles are and destroy them. Once you destroy them look for any signs of people going missing or people dying under circumstances where their heads are blown off or their limbs are missing. Second, I need to stay here and watch over Elysif. She is obviously aware of the fact that her mother is alive but she is terrified of her since she is the one who betrayed her. She may try to run away or even try and find her mother in order to try and kill her.”
“Okay, I understand well enough. I’ll look for the crazy witch lady while you look after Elysif.”
“Yes and don’t forget the booze this time!” Scott said as I headed out the door. Again I ignored him.
Heading out to the first circle which was in an alley on the eastern edge of Paddington. It took me a few hours to get there though so it was a little dark and much harder to find any evidence. All I could find was the dried blood circle with some weird ass runes. I decided to make a sketch of it to show Scott and while I did I found something. A couple of crates near the circle were leaking a dried red substance. Obviously it was blood so I decided to open it up and sure enough there was a body. It looked several days old and was missing an arm. The body was blueish and had started to decompose. Maggots and other bugs had infested it so I didn’t touch it. Instead I got the local police to do that for me.

The Priest of Genes
Meet Seth, acolyte in the Church of Virtue. He’ll be a Priest like his father soon, he just knows it. Sure he didn’t inherit his mother’s preaching power, but he doesn’t mind being the secondary priest at whatever temple he is assigned to. Just as long as he has a library. Meet this genetics textbook. Hmm, that doesn’t belong here. It must have come from somewhere far away, I guess something happened to its owner. I’m sure a studious young man who likes healing could go far with this information, whether he wants to or not. This is my first time really writing anything, so I hope you like it! Please let me know if I make any mistakes; I have a new R&D tech job at a genomics company, so I probably don’t edit as much as some people. I’m shooting for two thousand-ish word chapters released on Sundays, since none of the webnovels I read ever seem to update that day. Underserved Market! Genre is fantasy, possibly progression fantasy. Maybe a tiny bit litRPG if you wait a while and squint really hard, but that’s the most I’m prepared to claim. Hedged my bets on the content warnings, nothing that bad. Cover art from A. W. Gelman
