《The Supernatural Case of an Accidental Time Traveler》Beginnings - Part Twelve

A pale set of eyes watched us from the rooftop of an old building. The figure wore a newsboy cap and had a white shirt and gray pants that were held up with suspenders. He wasn’t very fashionable but for the time period, he was. The figure then disappeared into the dusk light.
I looked up from the ground trying to avoid Isabell’s eyes only to see that Scott had stopped. “What’s wrong?” I asked.
“We’re alone.”
I looked around to see that what he said was true. The streets were empty, not even a rat was around. The fog started forming in the streets and it kept getting thicker. Isabell latched onto my arm even tighter like a scared child. I drew my knife with my right hand and was prepared to fight. Or so I thought.
I saw the silvery glint of a blade strike into Isabell from my left. A shadowy figure followed the blade. Isabell shrieked as she turned to dust just like the changelings we fought the other night did. Still in shock, I swung my blade at the figure with my right hand, he ducked and stabbed me in the stomach.”That hurt like hell.” I thought as I fell to my knees with the knife still in my stomach. Scott jumped in front of me and attempted to strike the figure, but he jumped backward at the last second.
“You okay, kid?”
“Ya, just fucking great. If you beat him could you let me kill him? I want to give him some payback.” I said gritting my teeth.
“Sure thing kid,” he replied as he threw me his flask.
I dumped half of the contents on my wound. The burn was awful so I drank the rest of the contents of the flask. I held the wound as tightly as possible with my left hand while I used my right hand and teeth to rip my shirt. While I was tending to my wounds Scott had started to fight the figure.

He kept throwing punches at it but the figure was always a step away. It must have known that his gloves were lined with silver, or it just didn’t want to be hit. Then the figure saw an opening and punched Scott in the jaw. Scott stumbled back for a moment.
“You can hit.”
“Well, you can take a hit.”
“I'm a drunk, I don’t feel much anymore.”
“Perhaps, but do you know who or what I am?”
“I don’t know and I don’t care.” Scott said as he ran towards the figure. But it was ready and as Scott threw out a punch with his right hand it dodged to the right. It grabbed his wrist and struck out its palm into his stomach and flipped him onto his back with practically no effort. Scott landed with a grunt and stopped moving.
“Stay down for a moment while I get my knife.” it said as it began walking towards me.
“Who are you?” I asked as I scooted back towards the building and picked my knife back up with my right hand as my left held the other knife in my stomach.
“A yes I am in a new body so you wouldn’t recognize me. I am the changeling that escaped from you before and now it’s time for you to pay for killing my kin.” he said, kicking the knife from my hand and stepping on my left hand. His foot pushed the knife even farther into my stomach as blood gushed out. I yelled in agony before passing out.

While I was unconscious and the changeling was about to kill me and Scott, a person wearing a white mask that had red teardrops hanging from the eye holes and long gray hair rushed in. the masked man grabbed the changeling by the back of the neck and threw him away from me.

“What the hell! Who are you?” the changeling asked but the masked man said nothing. He only drew two knives and charged at the changeling. The changeling got up and ran morphing into a cat as it made its escape. The masked man stopped as soon as the changeling was beyond his sight. Scott though was awake and he saw most of it. He watched as the masked man came up to him and whispered in a low voice.
“Forget you saw anything, for your own sake if not his.” gesturing at me. Then he disappeared like a phantom.
Scott got up and walked over to my body. “Please stay alive till I can get you help.” he said as he picked me up and carried me off into the foggy London streets.

8 239Cinder Roots (Undergoing a Rewrite)
This novel is currently undergoing a major rewrite, as I noticed several plot points that needed to be revamped. I'll leave the chapters I've posted here to anyone curious to see how everything started, but I'll be posting the rewritten story as a new novel in the future. The characters will be the same, but the journey will be more understandable and hopefully, a lot more fun to read. -------- First, everything was fire, it killed, it consumed, and it gave him life. He was just a tree, born in the biggest forest that remained in the world, full of dryads, naiads, elves and treants, but he was alone. He couldn’t see. He couldn’t talk. Curiosity plagued him. He dreamed of wandering the land, but could only wonder what stood outside the reach of his roots. The tree was tired of waiting. He decided to not just dream, but to act. How could he survive against a invading empire, a grand conspiracy that threatened to shake the foundations of the world, and the raw danger that lies within these woods? With pure determination. Warning - There are quite a few POV changes in the first chapters, but that'll change after the introduction is done, as I'll be focusing on the MC perspective only.
