《Divine Empress of Chaos》Chapter 22

Normally, against such high level experts, they would still be able to detect her presence, especially demons with great senses. But right now, all of them were too focused on Huo Wei Hu and none of them considered a mortal as a threat. Who would spare energy to pay attention to a human like her? Well… maybe except for Huo Wei Hu who been tracking her every movement.
A sense of panic materialized in his beautiful galactic eyes. He placed more effort into distracting the enemies, afraid to draw their attention to her location. She gave him a mental thumbs up. See, we’re working as a team already!
Rays of black laser merged with jets of water aimed toward Huo Wei Hu, who swiftly formed a spiritual sword forged from his fox flames.
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
Swoosh!
His movements were controlled and deliberate as he efficiently deflected the attacks with proficiency, whiling defending against Huo Jiu and concubine Huli simultaneously. His adept footwork and great dexterity allowed him to evade effortlessly as his flame sword synchronized with his every thrust and swing.
Yu Liang couldn’t help but praised him deep inside her heart. He was worthy of his reputation, a skilled fighter! Well versed in the art of combat! Finally, tearing her eyes away from the mesmerizing sight, she continued onward. This was neither the time nor place to diddle.
Black shards of icicles, sharp and dangerous were unleashed from Huo Jiu’s palm. They drilled toward Huo Wei Hu, gaining momentum as it traveled. Suddenly, the flame sword reconstructed itself into multiple particles, the flare kindled more brightly than before. Each fire particle launched onto a black shard of icicle, adsorbing the attack into the flames.
Shock and astonishment were portrayed in the face of the mother and son pair, eyes wide opened in stupefaction. His flames just ingested the demonic icicles?

To confirm whether her eyes were playing tricks on her, concubine Huli sent out a beam of water, contaminated with the dark demonic aura. By nature, fire element was weak against water since its properties could douse out the flames, but Huo Wei Hu’s fox-fire had undergone major change since his lightning tribulation. The burning flames drank the incoming demonic water ardently, like a dehydrated fire unable to quench its thirst, aiding its rapid oxidation.
The bright flares blazed, illuminating the frightening pale faces of Huo Jiu and concubine Huli. Their complexions were deathly pale, white like ghost as they watched in terror as their attacks were assimilated by his vortex of flames. Petrified by fear, none of them noticed when a figure sneaked up behind the two and with a cold, ruthless hand swipe, she severed one of the nine honorable tails.
“AHHHH!” a horrifying howl reverberated throughout the corridor. The scream filled with agony and anguish, and a great sense of loss. Huo Jiu stared at his detached tail as it convulsed on the floor, twitching violently with blood sprouting from the flesh; a puddle of bloody red was created. A deep pang of sorrow curtained over his dark blood-lust eyes.
Multiple pairs of wide eyes stared at the culprit in shock. Feigning innocence, Yu Liang took a small step back and nonchalantly shrugged, “What?” Her face was completely guilt-free as she licked the glowing dragon dagger in her hand, dripping with fox blood. “The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.”
Huo Jiu’s heart was not reconciled as he mourned over the loss of one of his most precious fox tail. He had underestimated this loathsome girl! The move was cutthroat and vindictive, completely unexpected from a human. He was full of regret and his heart was so remorseful, his intestines were turning green! Sadly, in this world, there was no medicine for regrets.

Only heaven knew how much the tails meant to demons of their race. Each tail held boundless power and only after shedding much blood and sweat could one finally evolved into a full-fledged nine-tailed fox! A moment of carelessness, costed him hundreds years of cultivation. With the loss of one tail, his progress would no longer be as smooth-sailing as before. He was extremely unwilling!
Thick chucks of icicles formed in the air and spiraled straight toward Yu Liang. Such audacity! Even if this master is injured, I can still deal with a puny human girl like you! His lips curved into a malicious smile as he waited for her doom. Yu Liang tried to evade, but how could her speed compare to a high expert who could dictate the direction of his attacks? Hence, she could only brace herself for the impact, but she only felt her body being thrown aside.
How could Huo Wei Hu stood by and watch his most precious family treasure get hurt? The woman he couldn’t even spoil and pamper enough; if she wanted the world, he would gladly hand it over for her to play! This rascal must have a death wish! This king’s woman, not a single strand of hair on her head can be touched!
With great reflex, he immediately knocked her away and cushioned her fall by controlling the density of air with spiritual energy as he intercepted the shards of icicles with fire balls. As she safety landed on the ground, his heart released a silent breath of relief. Focusing his attention back on the battle, he prevented both Huo Jiu and concubine Huli from reaching Yu Liang, thwarting their every step with his imposing body and his undying flames.
Concubine Huli was enraged. A trash human girl had dared to injure her most cherished son! The brat was simply courting death! Until she gets rid of both these nuisances, she won’t rest in peace! A maniacal laugh erupted from her lips as she stared at the dragon dagger in the girl’s hand. A baleful look flashed across her eyes, laced with cunningness.
“Wei Hu, ah Wei Hu. To think you will one day fall in love with this aunt’s daughter. What an irony!” Concubine Huli sneered. “That dagger is proof of her lineage! HAHAHA!” Her laughter was abruptly cut off by Huo Wei Hu’s next words.
“This King couldn’t care less about your relations with Yu Liang, what she may or may not be to you. Don’t waste your last breath instigating trouble!” His cold voice was so chilling, the air turned bleak and frosty like the most frigid winter.
When those words spewed by concubine Huli reached Yu Liang’s ears, she was beyond livid and incredibly peeved! What daughter? What nonsense! She was tempted to pounced forward and give her a good thrashing. The dragon dagger didn’t even belong to her. Luckily, Huo Wei Hu didn’t fall for her petty scheme. A warmth spread through her heart at the trust he had for her.
Wait!
The dagger was proof of lineage?
A sudden realization bombarded her. She felt the world dropped on her shoulders and the earth collapsed beneath her feet. Boulders of rocks smashed her head, forming the beginning of a headache twisting into a pounding migraine. This dragon dagger might not be hers, but…it belonged to Yu Tian!
Concubine Huli is Yu Tian’s mother? Then Yu Tian is Huo Wei Huo’s cousin? Does that mean her brother is also a fox demon? How can a fox demon be mute? Unless…unless his condition have to do with the mother and son pair?

Letters from a Dying World
Times historic are often penned after the fact in the lifeblood of the pitiful, forgotten masses. That roiling, uncountable crush of humanity, they who held the pikes and they who threw down the tyrants. Their veins opened by gazes academic, sharp and cruel, and pecked away at with quills, written out of their own story. The Second Dark Crusade was a time of such poignancy. A time when the light of man waned and flickered, choking in the acrid smoke of its own inadequacy. As befitting of such an age it has been covered more than a capital whore, and so I attempt not to tell that story again. That story of dull, unfeeling analysis. Neither here will you find the browbeating, propagandistic screeds so common in the hands of men, the light of youth still burning behind their eyes. Nay, here I shall attempt to cover fresh ground, not tread on the grave dirt of long dead authors. Here I shall attempt to tell the story of the small lives caught, unbeknownst to them, in the great and torrential downpour that we now call history. Here lies the true story of The Second Crusade. - Loremaster Ip'Qal
