《Grandpa Sweet Fist》Part 13- Power Fruit

Sometime after the staff had left, Jennifer’s husband arrived at the diner. He had heard about the attempted robbery and came to check on her. Victor was happy to see his concern. He was less happy when Jennifer introduced him, not as his father, but as the man who saved the diner.
Victor didn’t realize he would mind it that much.
Still he accepted Jason’s profound thanks with grace and was glad to see Jason rejecting Jennifer’s suggestion to go home. His son-in-law was uncomfortable with Jennifer walking home at this time of the day and wanted to escort his wife. Jennifer told him it wasn’t necessary as it was just a five minutes walk but Jason was having none of it. The man left a good impression on Victor.
Not wanting to be the third wheel, Victor quickly finish his cup of coffee and left the diner. He could have returned to the ruined building but decided against it. It was late, and the spell formation wasn’t going anywhere. Victor decided to walk back to the motel. The freezing city air was getting colder and colder and Victor realized that being a cultivator has not made him immune to the cold. Victor figured he was now as strong and fast as any normal human could be, but he wasn’t an enhanced human. Maybe that would change as he advanced his cultivation, but right now he was suffering from the cold air.
Luckily a convenience store that was still open and Victor ducked inside. The store sold some clothes and Victor bought a simple white hooded jacket. It wasn’t much but it did help with the cold. Victor then made his way back to the motel. It was well past midnight when he finally got there. Too tired to train, Victor returned the furniture to their rightful place and had a restful sleep.

The next morning, Victor had a nice breakfast at a local diner before returning to the ruined building. He activated the formation as per normal and entered the sub-space of the spell formation. Reunion was waiting for him…with a new body.
The man who appeared before Victor saw a boorish looking man in his thirties. The man had a weathered face, and a strong and tall body. His right arm was covered with a dragon tattoo, but the man’s light blue eyes contain a mischievous smile, and Victor knew who he was.
“Reunion.”
Victor had expected Reunion to take the form of another body, but he had to admit this one was a bit of a surprise. A young girl, an old man, and now a mature tough man? What’s next? Not wanting to encourage the system, Victor maintained his dead-panned face and was rewarded with a scowl from the system. Reunion quickly recovered though.
“Congratulations to host Victor Volkov for completing the side task. You rescued your descendent and prevented her from coming to any harm. You had earned thirty reward points and a limited spin. Please select a shop.”
Victor looked around and frowned. “There’s only three lights. The cultivation shop hasn’t reopened?”
“Of course not. It hasn’t even been a day since you got a reward from there. What do you want that shop for anyway? You haven’t even learned a faction of the moves available from the Iron Bear Sambo. Don’t be so greedy.”
“I’m a villain. Being greedy is part of the job description.”
Victor countered, but his heart wasn’t really in it. Victor wasn’t stupid enough to say so to the System, but the task last night got him closer to his daughter, and that was a prize that was hard to top. Victor picked one of the three shops that was available.

The light that represented the superpower shop came towards Victor. Much like the previous two times, the light turned into a shop list before transforming into a wheel. This wheel was much smaller though, and Victor saw that it only had eight sections. As the wheel began spinning, and Victor turned towards the system.
“Why is this wheel so small?”
“This was a side task, not one of your main tasks so the rewards available are much more limited. For this reward, only eight items will be available for the spin.”
He remembered Reunion saying something about this being a limited spin. So this was what she meant. “Can’t I at least decided on what rewards to be placed on the wheel?”
“No, it is all random.”
“How do I know if this is random? You could have done something to the wheel.”
“You just have to take it on good faith. Or you can ignore the wheel and forfeit the reward.”
As if that was going to happen. “Parasite.” Victor grumbled.
“Guilty as charged.” Reunion happily replied.
Victor scoffed in disgust. It’s hard to insult such a shameless … system. He stopped the wheel and it slowed to show the reward he had been given. It was something called a ‘Power Fruit”. The wheel disappeared and the strangest fruit Victor had ever seem appeared in it’s place. It looked like a purple apple with lumps all over it. Victor looked up the purple fruit that was floating in the air and asked.
“What’s a power fruit?”
“In the world called the Grand Sands, people aren’t born with superpowers. Instead they gained them through the eating of supernatural fruits. This is a fruit from that world.”
A fruit that could give people superpowers! Victor couldn’t believe what he was hearing. If the people of his world knew of this dimension called the Grand Sands, there would be a mass migration. Who wouldn’t want superpowers?
“What powers does this fruit give?”
“No idea.” Reunion said. “Before you go on, I really don’t know. There are over twenty thousand power fruits in that world, and even the locals don’t know all of them.”
“Twenty thousand different powers?” Victor almost choked when he heard it. “There’s a world with over twenty thousand different superpowers?”
