《Shamrock Samurai》33 | PAYMENT, PAIN, AND POWER

As soon as all of the cops, ambulances and firetrucks figured out where the survivors were on Skaggs Island, my friends and I left on the wizard’s boat.
He wasn’t able to remove anyone’s memory, but he did mask our departure, making us invisible with Chaos. With the stories the survivors would live to tell, we would be just one more detail in a highly improbable story.
As I rowed back to the boat launch I told Nehemiah, “We did it man. We crossed over to their turf and saved lives. We even stopped the lord of the dead.”
”Psssh. Stopped? More like pissed off. We’re on his blacklist now.”
”But at least we closed the Threshold.”
Nehemiah jutted a thumb into his own chest. “I closed the Threshold. Almost cost me my life. They’ll just open another one. All we did was apply a band aid to a deep wound that needs stitches. We didn’t fix anything.”
”But—” I started.
Nehemiah cut me off. “I’m not finished talking. You almost got all of us and yourself killed Sean. I know you were trying to spare everyone else but we could have tackled Donn together.”
I hung my head. “I guess you were right. I was a little gung-ho.”
”But,” he sighed, “ultimately we saved some lives. That wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t convince me to help.”
I smiled. “So are you going to ditch me again until next week?”
“Me ditch you?” said Nehemiah. “No, the next time I have an emergency you’re helping me for sure. Plus you owe me a new staff.”

After we got back to my car, Charice asked me if I was alright. My burst of Luck empowerment had seemingly healed most of my surface wounds.

She had blood stains on her clothes and her purple blouse had tears on the shoulders. “Where are your cuts?” I asked as I inspected her.
She hugged herself reflecting on what happened. “When Donn was blasting me, I felt—”
“Pain?” I asked.
“And power.”
“Are you alright?” I asked her. “That was dark magic he hit you with.”
“Besides all these emotions and needing a shower, I’m okay,” she said. “My wounds are healed, but my back is killing me.”
“Don’t worry,” I said. “I know a good chiropractor.”

Starrise - Knightshade
A wannabe member of the Knights of Solaris finds a mysterious man in the forest one night, wielding impossible powers, and possessing the only clue to her mother's fate she has ever found. To learn what happened to her mother five years ago, the girl tracks the man across the continent, unaware of the man's foes lurking just out of sight. Knightshade is the first entry in the Starrise series to be publicized. This particular story will be split between the perspectives of the new recruit and her mysterious target. This is a primarily Fantasy story, with Sci-Fi elements that will mostly be emerging later on. This story (and a related project) has a discord channel dedicated to it! So come say hi if you're bored and like the story, or something! Cover art made by Deirdre Laughton (Thanks for the art, Mom!)

The Order
The Order takes place within the Human-led Empire, within Glory City. In this Empire in which Magic is policed and its use is regulated, Mages are required to have a licence in order to practice Magic. The Magically inclined, Non-Human Races that have lived under Human rule lived a markedly different life to Humans, which had led to a somewhat contentious relationship. A law enforcement agency known as The Order is responsible for maintaining Magical order, and is also responsible for doling out justice to those who break the law. Consisting of the Magic using Mages, and the more technologically inclined Knights, these Agents are regarded as protectors by some, but as oppressors by many. The tale follows the exploits of Izano Zuko, a mysterious man, covered from head to toe in burn scars and wrapped in bandages. He arrives in Glory City with the backing of the City Lord, unknown abilities and secret intentions. Trouble starts up almost as soon as he arrives, and Zuko is thrown into a conflict between the Order and an unknown enemy. This is a complete book, and I plan to upload a chapter every week or so. No cover as yet.

The Chronicles of The Green wizard
Garion Greensleeves always was an oddity. The first son of High-Wizard Garius Greensleeves and Adricor, a Noble woman of well renown, he would of stood to inherit much. However, on the night of his first full moon, as a baby he disappeared from his cot. His parents, after much frantic searching, found the babe crying in a small clearing of trees, a large feline creature pacing defensively around him, the bloodied corpse of a fox resting at its feet. As the parents approached, the beast transformed into a small owl and flew around the clearing before perching on a low branch of a tree nearby. From this moment on Garion's fate had been decided. Only those with magical blood could be capable of calling out to such a being as this. As Garion grew older, the transforming creature remained by his side. Wizards from all the continents visited the glade to see the child who had bound a familiar to his will as a babe. At age seven, Garion left his home glade and travelled the world studying to become a recognised guilded wizard. After many years he was granted the title of Wizard and was sent forth to advise, learn and ponder on behalf of the guild. After a while, Garion was assigned to a small nation within the vast continent mainly populated by man-folk known as The Patchwork kingdoms.
