《Adaptive Morphosis : Dawn Break》Chapter 27 - You Can't Grasp The Shadows

I don’t even know what it is though? Araphel said, a little confused.
“it’s an adaptative mutation power, but he can also learn from other powers”
“We figured out that it needs to be a direct interaction though” I explained better.
“Yeah, so what’s your power? Swordjuice asked.
“Yeah, show them” Victor urged on
LED was giving us a smile from when he had fun at others expense what could this guy's powers be?
“Well, my power is quite simple, I become a shadow.” he said raising his arm, the whole thing becoming a black mass, seemingly made of an impossibly black, solidified smoke-like substance.
“Only with a little caveat, its charged.” he gave us smile and simply vanished, a black colored slash entering the ground.
There was a zapping sound of lightning and then a voice behind us. “Electric shadow.”
We all turned, me and the other recruits looking with mouth opens at where he appeared.
“That’s so cool!” Sworjuice immediately said hopping to where he was now.
“It is indeed” Glassmetal said adjusting his glasses.
“Incredible” I said, voice a little strained, it seemed so versatile, could attack and defend, escape, ambush, move fast, Jesus.
After a second though my excitement abated a little, depending in the way it worked I wouldn’t get much from it, more probably that I wouldn’t even.
“So how do I help? Araphel asked, returning completely to normal.
“Well, you attack me.” I said to him simply
“What?" He frowned tilting his head a bit.
“I'll be fine, really” I reassured him, waving my hand
“He adapts to the attacks that are thrown at him, then his power learns how those things work.” LED explained “Don’t worry araphel, he’ll be fine.”
“Exactly” I nodded “The power has to come in contact with mine to work.”
“I think I get it” he said. “It probably wouldn’t work just shocking you, the shock I produce travel through shadows so it wouldn't be direct.”
“Yeah, that make sense.” I said a little disappointed. “Nothing we can do though, right?”
“I could still try shocking you directly.” He suggested
“Well, I won't deny the opportunity” I said with a strained smile. It couldn’t be worse than being shocked by thunder, after all.
Araphel shrugged approaching me again, by walking this time, he raised a hand that got wreathed in black, touching it to my shoulder.
Now with us closer I had to look down slightly to look directly at him, I could also see the slight sings of age on his face, the guy was probably bearing on his forties, so that’s why they call him the veteran.

“I'll use bit then.” Araphel said, confirming I was ready
“Of course, go ahead” I said awakening my core.
Without any more waiting he sent a shock through me, it was electricity but it still felt completely different from Thunder’s, I could tell that it was completely different powers that created them, that their objectives were totally unlike one another.
While Thunder's lightning harmed others and enhanced himself, this one was pure electricity, with a concept, I think, of shadow. It was a weird thing, A unique substance that was made of a combination of electricity and shadow, fused onto a physical mass.
He stopped for a bit “You good?” he asked me a hint of concern in his voice.
It was then I realized I had mutated to gain defenses from lightning, not even realizing it in the concemtration immessed as I was at the power in question.
“Yes, of course, if you could keep it up? I feel like I’m almost able to grasp something.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yes, it is not harming me, and I'm understanding your power, I might really gain something from it.”
“If you say so, you can tell me to stop.” he said, unconcerned with me gaining an understating in his abilities.
“Doesn’t it sound like a BDSM thing to you?” Victor theatrically whispered.
“Shut up Victor” LED said in a rare show of poor language.
Swordjuice and Glassmetal laughed while I shook my head, Araphel resumed shocking me with an amused smile.
I focused again while the lighting traveled into me, while he could shock me from his palm touching me directly, I could tell from his power that it was more effective when connecting from the shadows, even his shadow form that looked like solidified shadows was in actuality the energy itself, tightly coiled and controlled, he really had a lot of time to grow in power, the amount of energy packed into his form staggering.
Then the energy he was channeling into me was made of the same shadow that made himself. My core started spinning gathering the pieces, the matrix vibrating as it stretched its metaphysical fingers over the shapes of Lukes power.
The power was divided into two parts, interconnected with one another, he created the energy, like most powers did, and that part wasn’t reachable to me, and the other part was his ability to transform into the shadow-electricity. This part was as well inaccessible to me.

It combined concepts, physical properties and even transformations. It was so complex it was baffling, the amount of information that I could get with only Spyglass’s powers finally felt limited, I need a way to more thoroughly experience contact with other powers, but from this one, I got what I could.
I shook my head, opening my eyes a frown on my face, it was so close. Like I only had a piece missing.
Araphel tilted his head at that stopping his channeling.
“What's that? You got it?”
“No.” I said looking at my hand. “It's more like I saw how you become the lightning, and the lightning is also the same energy that you turn into, I couldn’t figure how to also transform into it as my powers haven't experienced that part directly, I can only use what is used against me, like a karma thing.”
I shook my head. “The other part is the creation of the energy, one that I also can't access, it felt so close though, it’s frustrating.”
“Isn't that the same reason why you didn’t stay with Thunders powers?” LED asked.
“Yes, seems like whatever it is that creates the energy in the powers is a really central piece or hard to copy, maybe I need more information gathering powers or a power that would bridge the gap on how to create stuff.”
“The tricky part is getting a power that interacts with you, making you create things? Creating things out of you?” Glassmetal mused.
“There are some that come to mind, there are powers that make people sprout growths all over, its tricker with energy though.” Victor said.
“I’m sure you’ll find something eventually.” LED reassured me, patting my back
I smiled at him “yeah, I hope so.”
“Well let’s enter then finally?” Victor said gesturing to the still open elevator.
We all went to the inside I couldn’t help but feel that I was hitting some kind of wall, that I should be capable of getting more out of this much powers around, a bit of frustration crept up inside of me but the door to the sleeping quarters opened distracting me.
“Well, see you all later we’ll going to have one of those boring meetings.” Victor said waving his hand.
I went out with Sworjuice and Glassmetal they giving their goodbyes to the others.
“It was good meeting you Araphel.” I said as well getting out of my thoughs
“Likewise, for you all. And Joseph, don’t beat yourself for not getting stronger, you'll get there in time.” he said directly to me, seeming from experience.
I nodded at him surprise that he could see so easily through the things I was feeling.
The door closed taking what we had for leaders away, maybe tomorrow we would hear some about what they talked about
“Well, I'll be going to sleep then” I said to my fellow recruits.
“Yeah, it was really cool meeting up with one of the leaders though” Swordjuice said
“Is he really a leader I thought there weren't any official organization of the Dawnbreakers” glassmetal half asked half commented.
“There isn't. but the oldest members Kinda manage the distributions of missions and information when possible. So, they are effectively the leaders as far as we're concerned.” Swordjuice explained, how she knew so much was anyone's guess.
Hmm it makes sense, I said not that invested feeling still a little down.
“Well, see you tomorrow.” I said to them a final time but before I even started walking Swordjuice exclaimed
“Wait!” she had one of her hands raised with a finger pointing up “The poppings I would get you.”
“Oh yeah I almost forgot.” I was considering just telling her to let it for another day but she sprinted away.
I sighed looking at Glassmetal, he just shrugged. “That's Swordy for you.” he said with a smile, I just shook my head.
“Well, I won't wait for her so see you tomorrow Joey.” he said to me and went his own way, not long after Swordjuice arrived, a little container in her hands with colorful little balls inside.
“Here they are, sorry for almost forgetting she let out in between breaths.”
“it's no worry at all, thanks for them”
“Yeah, I saw how you got kinda bummed, maybe they’ll help.”
I didn’t think I was being so obvious. “Yeah, they just might.” I smiled at her. “Good night then, Swordy.”
She smiled at me as well “Good night, Joey.”

Until You Do It Right
The world ended on December thirty-first of the year two thousand and twenty, precisely at the stroke of midnight. The human race began to be systematically exterminated by the spawn of the System. We were given a chance to defeat them, to take back our place at the top of the food chain. We failed. The first to perish were those who bravely rebelled. The soldiers. The defenders. One by one, they fell. In their final moments, they begged for aid. Nobody replied. The next to succumb were those who feebly cowered. The deniers. The leeches. Together, they fell. In their final moments, they cried out into the darkness. Countless voices replied in kind. The last to decline were those who shamelessly ran. The deserters. The cowardly. Alone, they fell. In their final moments, they whimpered quietly. There was nobody left to answer. The final human to die was a survivor. A runner. As he died, he begged for salvation. His prayers were answered. He was offered a chance to save himself, along with all of humanity, and he took it. This is his story. “I sat in the dark and thought: There’s no big apocalypse. Just an endless procession of little ones.”― Neil Gaiman, Signal to Noise. I am absolutely new to writing and will take any and all constructive criticism. Please give feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I will update the tags as they change, and I hope that you enjoy this little story I'm writing! Quick warning: Seamus is intentionally a flawed character, and this story is going to explore those flaws and perhaps even change a few of them. I do not agree with all of his actions, but it is what it is.
