《Shy Walking Shadows; Book 1 of the Blood Moon Series》Chapter 153 - Learning The Hard Way

Kierra
Coming back in, I have to stop right inside the door and take off the soggy socks. Whoops. Setting the stack of items on the desk, I toss my socks into the tub for now. Think instead of the laundromat, I'll give Ava a call and ask if I can use hers. That way can take everyone and they can run around at her place.
I need a bigger car. Sigh. Always need something different, ever notice that?
Didn't even realize Ben was in there, so instead of my socks going into the tub, they just bounce off his leg. I just blink at his legs for a moment, not comprehending for a second.
"Uhh..."
Could this possibly get any more awkward? Wait! Don't answer that. Trying to salvage some kind of dignity, I clear my throat and back out, not looking up at all. Think I need to start making signs for doors.
I'm so not used to males being in my house for longer than a couple hours. This is just a recipe for disaster. Closing the door again to his laughter and my flaming face, I breathe deeply.
No, Vamps don't 'technically' need to use the bathroom. Don't need the toilet, but sink and shower are used if they like to be clean since they can and do sweat. Not to mention collect dirt just like the rest of us.
Faline's in her doorway snickering at me, so I flick her nose. I dodge her punch, but not the kick to my rear. Close quarters are not made for wrestling.
We end up grappling as I try to put her in a headlock. With my feet being moist from my trek outside, my feet have very good traction, while her socked toes are slipping back. Being used to her old strength, I'm not prepared for her push.
My shout sounds as I rush a few steps forward towards the front door to keep my balance, whirling back around just as she runs up behind me and wraps her arms around my middle. Asher barks at us from the couch, grumpy old man being woken up rudely. My arms go around her waist and lift.
Her sock feet flail for purchase before they go into the air. I warn Asher to move as I make my way over to the couch, dropping her down. Using my motion and combining it with hers, she pushes off it, sending me back and off-kilter.

As she rides me down, I grab the sides of her pants and flip her up as I go back. Just as my back hits the floor, so does hers. We're both dazed for a moment, but it doesn't last long.
While she jumps up and spins, I roll and crouch. Both of us grinning toothily at the other before we rush forward. A shout gets ignored, but just before we meet, we're dragged apart.
Benjamin has a hold of Faline while Xavier picks me up off my feet. Both her and I laughing hard for no real reason as our arms are held down and bodies dragged to opposite sides of the room. Black wolf, sable coyote, and human boy look at us in worry.
I can feel Xavier's heartbeat against my back, the rush of the play fight only whetting an appetite for more. A burn starting in my loins lets me know one craving or another needs to be met. With my arms pinned at my sides, it's time to get creative and by the look on Faline's face, she's thinking the same thing.
I don't see what she does, but I start squirming like crazy. As soon as he lets go, I drop low, spin, and go for his legs. Grabbing his ankles and pulling hard, he yelps as he falls onto his rump.
Spinning his legs, he either has to roll with them or chance breaking bones. He does so, trying to push off and go forward, but I have a tight grip. Leaping forward, I straddle his back.
Before I can get a good hold, he turns, sending me to the side and pinning my leg under him. He grabs for my arms, his expression making me laugh as I keep swatting him away while wiggling loose. He's at a severe disadvantage since he doesn't want to hurt me.
My sister echoes my laugh. With Xavier ending up between my legs, I wrap them around him and squeeze hard as I lift myself up. He grunts and I push him back, my eyes flashing yellow then back to green.
Can feel my teeth elongating as I eye his neck, my heart thumping as it meets his. Eyes bleed back to yellow as I dip in fast and bite down into his shoulder. He yells out, his tone starting to reach my brain, letting me know something is very wrong here.

The hot blood pouring into my mouth has my mind going red. My pelvis bones dig into the maned wolf's waist, my thighs clenching his body hard between them. Hands hold his arms down as I bite deeper, not really feeding, just biting into. Not in the right spot to feed.
The sound of Bastion yelling has me freezing before very sharp teeth sink into the back of my neck. Shivers go down my spine as Asher pushes himself into the blood haze of my mind. My breathing is heavy as he tries to get through to me.
The feeling of fur brushes the inside of my skull as the black wolf creates the sensation of him rubbing along the inside of my brain. The warm skin between my teeth feels wrong, but the scent filling my nose is sending different signals. That in itself feels wrong to me, enabling me to clear my head a little more.
"Pull back Kierra, you've fallen into your sister's bloodlust, just as she's fallen into your rage. You two need to practice more caution in your play."
Him telling me that annoys me. If they hadn't broken us apart, none of this would have happened, we weren't harming anyone. My teeth sink deeper in my anger, which has Xavier groaning.
The sound not an unhappy one, I can feel his growth beneath me.
Oh... Fuck.
That succeeds in obliterating the fog from my brain. Careful when pulling my teeth free so I don't tear him open, I lift up and look down at him.
Amber eyes are drowsy looking as he gazes up at me, his breathing heavy, but not labored. The blood I had taken in doesn't make me sick, but knowing what it could have led to, does. Now I start to freak out.
Not over what I've done, but what I could have done. Asher pulls back from his hold at my neck. I keep Xavier held down, not taking the chance of him grabbing me if I let go.
Looking up, I seek out my sister. Across the room, she's pushing back from Benjamin who's shaking his head as if in a daze. The dampness on his jeans just as telling as the blood on her face.
She looks at me just as confused as I'm sure I look to her. Leaping away, she runs to her room, slamming the door shut.
"Stay down, Xavier."
I whisper it low, but I know he hears me. Through the glaze in his eyes, he nods.
"I mean it, you grab for me... Just don't move till after I move away."
He blinks a couple times as he works at clearing his own haze, nodding again. I let go slowly, his arms don't move. Raising up, I crawl down his body till over his lower legs, then I stand and back up some more.
I don't stop till I hit a wall where I bend over just so I can breathe. Able to get enough to speak, I do so in a low tone.
"Next time guys, don't stop us, that could have gone a lot worse. We were fine until you interfered. All that was, was rough-housing, her and I used to do it all the time."
"Maybe, but you guys didn't used to b..."
Lifting my head, I glare at Asher, my eyes yellow in their anger.
"Doesn't fucking matter what we used to be or not. Neither of us would have hurt the other, I can't say the same for any of you, as is obvious right now. Do not come between us again. We will never learn what we are capable of if we're not allowed to find out for ourselves. Just...don't. Xavier, Benjamin, I'm sorry. I started this, so you have my apologies."
With that, I ignore them all as I grab the easel, canvas, my bag of paints, and head out the back door, shutting it firmly behind me then leaning against it. Only stay that way for a few moments before standing and setting up everything. Bare feet be damned.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
