《Old Cultivation Record》Chapter 20 - Very Agreeable

Taylor knocks on the door before seeing the doorbell, but just as he was about to press the button, a voice calls out.
“Come in! The door's open!” The voice says.
Taylor raises an eyebrow. He opens the door and walks in carefully. He saw no on inside. The place was decorated in an old-fashioned manner, with lacquered oak frames and side tables; paintings of stars and there was one of an empty throne. But what drew Taylor's eyes was a purple vase. This place looks clean… He thinks to himself.
“I'm in here. Come have a seat.” The voice calls again.
Taylor follows the voice a little further down the hall and enters a large living room.
Sitting on a cushioned chair framed with some sort of golden wood was a man with black hair; he had the eyes of a clever hunter and his smile had a hint of teasing.
“Welcome, Taylor. Come. Have a seat.” He says with a smile.
“Thank you,” Taylor says with a short nod. Taylor makes his way to a similar chair near the man and takes a seat.
“Would you like a drink?” The man asks with a smile.
“Do you have anything grape related. Maybe some punch or some wine?” Taylor responds.
A purple can of soda appears in the air and the man catches it before throwing it to Taylor. The can lands on Taylor’s lap and he grabs it up before lifting the tab to release the pressure. “Grape soda. Nice.” Taylor says as he takes a small sip.
“So you want to cultivate in my territory?” The man says with a smile.
“Yes… That would be appreciated.” Taylor says honestly. He’d rather not have to cultivate at the stage seventh’s place.

“For that, you’ll have to follow some rules. The main idea of it is that this is my territory; you should know what that entails.” The man says, resting his chin on his hand nonchalantly.
“Yes, I understand. I should know where the line is.” Taylor answers with a bowed head.
“Good.” The man says as he lets out a breath. “My disciples are currently away so there should be enough energy to satisfy your cultivation…” He says before pausing to consider a few things. “And there’s one last thing… This situation would normally not require this, but… I’ll require a favor for your stay. Consider this a compliment. I smell something on you… Something attractive. I feel as if you have some good luck to offer, so I would like to be greedy and ask a favor. If not, you can still stay, but I thought I would make the effort for the connection.” The man says, his face in his hand, his eyes casual and open, waiting for Taylor’s answer.
“Sure.” Taylor says with a smile. “It wouldn’t hurt to know a few more cultivators.” He says freely. Taylor didn’t mind offering the favor. This man… Is very agreeable… Taylor ponders to himself.

Museum of Deadly Beasts
Lin Jin never imagined he would ever transmigrate. And to such a peculiar world at that. Here, deadly beasts were regarded as sacred, and thankfully, he owned a museum for deadly beasts. “Master, this is just a dying little tortoise…” “What tortoise? This is a rare species that contains the blood of a Black Tortoise and could be promoted up to level seven.” “What about this shedding mongrel?” “Mongrel? How narrow-minded. This is a branch descendant of the snarling hound with a hint of Kirin’s blood. Take my word for it and sign the blood contract at once. I guarantee you that you’ll soar to success and be on your path to invincibility!”

The Shards of Sylvia's Soul
In the little village of Nyberg, Sylvia is dreaming of a future with Rebecca at her side. Together, they could move overseas. But when bandits attack, all of her tender dreams turn to ashes. Forced out of her home, Sylvia forges new bonds with the Fri, the women who have taken it upon themselves to protect their little corner of the world. She also meets Afi, a strange bandit with a stern face and a soft heart. Saving each other from certain demise, they join in a bond which irreversibly ties their souls together. So bonded, they attempt to settle down. When a distant heir to the Crown asks for aid to reunite the country, Sylvia sees her chance to finally right all the wrongs committed against her family. In the pursuit of the throne, Afi and Sylvia come to risk their very lives. Sylvia uncovers the relationship between soul, magic, and divinity itself, but even in research, there is peril. It is not an easy task to balance the strain on her soul with the demands of the upcoming battle. In this world, the soul is not an incorporeal concept. To the contrary, the human soul is a physical object, an organ which resides in the chest of each individual. It is a great source of strength, but also of vulnerability. Hardship can leave scratches and blemishes, or even break the soul in two. The soul is each person's connection to divinity, to the magic which is ubiquitous to the world. It enables the cultivation of gods, but old legends warn of demons emerging in the presence of corrupt intention, and of hollow warriors, with no soul at all. There are two sides to every page. Wherever the Wind Takes Us
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Abraham Penrose and Escyra Stärenholm threw away everything to be together. Their careers, money, and even their families were cast aside so they could live a life on the road. Both were proficient mages and felt they could take on anything as long as they had each other. They were even able to afford a small sail boat after months of saving up. Escyra wanted to see the northern lights, and Abraham was set to propose. That is, until a hurricane destroyed their boat and flung the lovebirds to different corners of the fantastical world of Zaltier. Follow both protagonists in their struggle to reunite as they discover the world, themselves, and most importantly: Love. *** Updates...as I write them. Will have a proper one post-write-a-thon! (The Gore tag is there due to action scenes. I don't plan on being overly verbose about anything, it's there so everyone feels safe!)

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
