《Old Cultivation Record》Chapter 49 - Not Smiling

“Go on. I'm sure you'll be able to handle it. I'll stay with the baby.” Benson says with an encouraging gesture.
“Ugh. Shouldn't you go and shouldn't I stay with my own baby? Seems to make more sense that way, doesn't it?” Taylor says, speaking the obvious in a neutral tone.
“Yeah, but it wouldn’t be a favor then, would it?” Benson says with a teasing smile.
“Fuck.” Taylor says as he grabs his bag. “I'll be back. And for the love of god, don't let anything happen to my kid.” Taylor says as he stands up, ready to depart the jet.
“How could anything happen while I'm here?” Benson asks, not seeing the reason for the worry.
“I don't know, man. You're a big scary dude, and I get the impression that you're a weirdly sexual guy. Being a little apprehensive, seems a little understandable, yeah?” Taylor speaks frankly, only being somewhat serious.
“Fuck off. Get off the plane before I have to beat your ass.” Benson says, very offended.
Taylor chuckles and raises his hands. “Alright, bro. I'm going.” He says, moving to walk down the steps.
As he climbed down the plane, he heard Benson's unsatisfied grumbles coming from behind him. “Fuckin' prick. You're weirdly sexual. I'm not the one bangin' the kinky witch lady.” Benson says, unhindered.
Taylor couldn't help but smile. Benson’s a funny dude, he thought with amusement.
…
…
“Hop in, my friend. Where do you want to go?” The taxi driver says after stopping for Taylor's raised hand.
Taylor gets in the cab and reads the address on his phone. “124 Rewind Road. You know the place?” He says before asking.
“Yah, yah. Near the Curiosity Crescent neighborhood. I know, I know.” The driver says as the cab starts moving.

Taylor sits in the cab and watches the scenery go by. There were tall buildings and scattered garbage all around him. It was a long drive and as they went further and further, the buildings grew smaller and the garbage seemed to increase. Eventually they arrived in a neighborhood full of shacks and other makeshift homes.
The cab driver stops outside of a long alleyway. “It's down the alley. Sorry, can't go. Too small.” The cab driver says.
“Alright. How much?” Taylor asks.
“300. Tip would be nice too.” The driver says, unfazed.
Fuck, Taylor thought. Pretty sure I just bought a carton of smokes for that much. Whatever. He thinks momentarily before pulling out 350 and putting it on the outstretched hand. “Thanks for the ride, man.” Taylor says before leaving the vehicle.
Taylor looks down the alleyway and his face frowns a bit. It was a long alleyway. Also, this place stunk and the alley was dark under the setting sun. Taylor pulled out a smoke and lit it before moving forward.
Taylor was pretty deep into the alley when he heard sounds of clattering, as if random metal objects were getting thrown around.
As Taylor neared the intersection of this alley and another, he heard hurried footsteps making its way closer to him. Right when he was about to pass a female figure in martial arts clothes bolted past him, further into the intersecting alleyway. Immediately after, three other figures bolted past him, chasing after the female.
Taylor takes a moment and inhales before letting out a cloud of smoke. “Fuck, man. It's just a girl. No need for all that effort. Some roses and a bottle of wine would be nice.” Taylor comments on the scene, enjoying the feeling of smoke in his lungs. Taylor fully intended to chase after those thugs and save the beauty, but those guys didn't look that tough, and he was still smoking a cigarette.

Wait a minute, Taylor thinks, taking a moment to pause. Did I just see flowing red hair? He wonders to himself before taking a photo out of his pocket.
It was a picture of a beautiful girl with red hair. The wind was blowing and she was smiling. A mountainous landscape behind her.
“Yup, that would be her. Fuck.” Taylor says, throwing his cigarette to ground and stepping on it, before immediately giving chase.
…
…
Taylor quickly caught up with his Shrink Step technique and knocked down the guy lingering behind the others. The guy was immediately knocked out. Not that tough at all, Taylor thinks. Now that he was a closer, he could tell that the guy he knocked out and another were only second stage cultivators, while the other was a third stage cultivator.
As Taylor looks to the third stage cultivator he became a little anxious. He could definitely handle the second stage cultivator, but depending on how their characters matched up, it could be a difficult fight.
The third stage cultivator activates a technique and his figure flashes forward where he latches onto the red-haired girl, stopping her from running. In this time, Taylor was able to catch up to the other second stage cultivator and quickly put him into a forceful sleep.
The third stage cultivator immediately senses the threat and pulls the red-haired girl in front of him to use as a shield. “Don't move or she dies.” The man says in a gravelly voice, reminiscent of your typical bad guy.
But the red-haired beauty wasn't one to cower and wait to be saved. She immediately revealed a hidden knife from her sleeve and stabbed her assailant in the side of his abdomen, hoping to puncture an organ or two.
The man recoils away in pain and releases his grip on the lady, allowing her to bound forward, closer to Taylor. Taylor also follows suit and activates his movement technique again and immediately follows with his Flame Fist Resolution.
The man opens his eyes at the incoming attack and quickly reacts. He activates an energy shield that slowed Taylor's fist and ate away at the heated energy. By the time Taylor's fist connected, the heat was only enough to burn the man's shirt and some outer skin. But the fist, powered by mostly physical strength pushed the man back, and was forceful enough to stunt him for a moment.
Taylor quickly flashes forward again, and activates another cultivation technique. The Gravity Scale technique. He got this from the same dude who sold him the Weight Stone and the bat. Apparently he was very talented with earth style and other similar gravity techniques. The price for it was cheap to Taylor and the technique was very useful.
Taylor immediately felt his body become hard as a rock and his weight multiplied. Taking the opportunity, Taylor immediately jumped, unfazed, and knee'd the vulnerable man in the face, forcing him up in the air. The man landed on the ground and was out cold.
Taylor clapped the dust off his hands and was about to say a few smooth words to beauty he saved, but after turning around a knife was immediately at his throat. Red hair was flowing in the breeze but she was not smiling.
