《Old Cultivation Record》Chapter 38 - Still Going to Try

As Taylor continues to wallow at home with his humiliation, several more attempts at the target's life was made. Each attempt failed and many people had died. It's possible that the only reason Taylor managed to live was that the vampire target didn't want to dirty his shoes.
Several weeks pass by before another attempt was made. The idea behind it was that after several attempts, the high tension would put him on enough of an edge that it could be taken advantage of; it was like a game of duck duck goose, he wouldn't know which hit would be the real hit. But this vampire was royalty. Whether there was a need for a guard has yet to be seen.
Three Vampire Dukes and another Vampire Prince attacked during the peace of the night. And they failed.
Barely injured, the target escaped the raucous noise and the night hunters to find solitude elsewhere.
…
…
Before these attempts, this Vampire Prince offended the entire power structure of vampires. He attempted to perform a ritual to crown himself the Vampire King. But this was a power no vampire would allow in the hands of another. There has been an unspoken rule for centuries; any Vampire Prince who made the attempt would be hunted down mercilessly.
Unfortunately, this prince had a reason to be arrogant. He would not go down so easily.
…
…
“Rise and shine, bitch.” Daryl says, pulling open the curtains.
Taylor groans and pulls the covers over his eyes.
“Come on,” Daryl says, pulling the blanket away. “Get up and do something today. You've been a bitch for over a week. I'll get drunk with you all day as long as you get out of bed.” Daryl says as he looks down at Taylor.
He hasn't shaved for a while and Daryl doubted he even bothered to brush his teeth. For that matter, he was super stinky and needed a shower.

“You're fucking gross, man. Go take a shower.” Daryl says as he holds his nose.
“Fuck. Fine.” Taylor says, disgruntled, as he puts his feet on the ground. “Could you lay out some clothes for me to wear?” Taylor asks with a turn of his head.
“Fuck, Taylor. I'm not your mom. Get your ass out of bed. You can choose your own damn clothes.” Daryl says before leaving the room. He didn't want to linger around Taylor’s rank smell any longer.
…
…
“You did what? You tried to kill a Vampire Prince?” The voice says with disbelief. “Kid. Before I thought you were just dumb. But now, I see that you're out of your damn mind.” The voice says, taking a moment to recognize what an idiot Taylor was. “Kid, do you realize what a fucking stupid thing that is for you to do?” The voice says, waiting for Taylor's answer.
“I didn't–” Taylor says before being cut off.
“It's one of the stupidest things you could have chosen to do.” The voice says before continuing to explain why. “Even it was me; I'm barely qualified to just be a bystander in that fight. You are the lowest level of cultivator. Do you hear me? The lowest. Just because you can beat up regular people you've grown some balls, but let me tell you what I mean by lowest–” The voice tries to say before Taylor speaks over him.
“That's why I called. I want to get stronger.” Taylor says over the phone, determination in his voice.
The phone was silent for a moment before the voice asks a question, “Have you read the book?”
“I spent the last week going through it. It has advice for a lot of things but it doesn't tell me how to get to the next step. The book is blank after the halfway mark.” Taylor says, frustration in his voice.

“Like I said previously, kid. You're an Inheritor. Your dao is bound to whatever that book has to tell you. Unless you earn whatever it's looking for, you won't be able to make a single step forward.” The voice explains.
“Is there no other way?” Taylor asks with disbelief. “There must be some kind of technique I can practice or a cultivation spell I can learn, right?” Taylor asks, hoping for something.
“It's possible,” The voice begins to say. “But from what I know about Inheritors, everything you need to know should be in that book. There are some external techniques that could be useful for you, but it's up to whatever dao you're cultivating to decide whether it's usable to you. Also, like I said, you are the lowest level of cultivator. Your options for techniques are very limited, and even if you buy a few they could still be useless.” The voice answers, diminishing Taylor's hope greatly.
“I'm still going to try.” Taylor says with gritted teeth.
“Alright, kid. Whatever. If you have questions call your tutor. I don't have time to explain every little thing to you.” The voice says.
“Okay. Thank you.” Taylor says before ending the call.
