《Working at an Isekai Office While Terrible Things Happen》[ARC 1] Chapter 3 - I Want a Harem

"I want a harem." The man sitting in front paused. His chubby lips swelled into a sickening smile. "At minimum ten women."
The silence was killing. Dalton gazed on the binder he had tried to hand to him. He simply pushed the binder back, returning instead a confident answer. His first client, Hajime Okamoto, was proving to be trouble.
"There's no power like that available. You should look through the binder." Dalton pushed the binder towards him once more.
Hajime didn't like that answer. He threw the binder in Dalton's face. Hundreds of pages of paper flew. "I got crushed by a truck saving a little girl from dying. Are you saying that my sacrifice means nothing!"
"That's not what happened at all." Dalton read the report he had on hand. "It says you did die from a truck, but you didn't save a girl. It says you were trying to steal a toy from her."
"It's not a toy! It's Gender Bendered Terry-tan, from Winds of Harmony! The girl didn't understand the value of such a thing!"
The chair clattered on the ground as he stood up. He was breathing hard, his eyes bulging, and face red from rage. After a moment, he cleared his throat and pulled up the chair to sit back down.
"So, as I said earlier, I would like a harem please."
"Let be clear, I can't authorize that because there are no powers that gives you a harem," Dalton said.
The man snorted. "That doesn't make sense. I know all about isekais. I even wrote some of them. I died. It should be in my contract that I get a harem."
"Those are works of fiction. This is reality, you don't just get a harem because-"
"They should all be virgins. Big boobs. Love me unconditionally. Have sex with me every day. Be good at housework. Never question my decisions. Doesn't talk back. Isn't super clingy. Can't be younger than twenty-one. Cannot cheat on me. Needs to be rich. Can't be fat. Can't be buff. Can't be short. Small lips. Nice hips. Must be attractive. Good at sex. Wants sex only from me. They must always tell me the truth. They cannot have men as friends. They cannot get a job. The harem women can be friends with each other. They must also have a strict curfew that must follow. They must listen to me always, and never disobey me."

Satisfied, Hajime leaned back in his chair, like he did a good thing.
Again, the silence was killing.
What had he just heard?
"Is that all?"
"No, but it's a start."
His head was starting to hurt. "I think what you just described was a slave."
"Yes." Hajime pointed at Dalton and nodded. "That is exactly what I want. I want a slave harem."
He didn't let it show on his face, but Dalton was at his breaking point.
"I can't just give you slaves. We don't do that. We-"
"That's it! I can't take it anymore!" Hajime slammed his fist on the table. "I suffered in my life! I deserve to be happy! All I want is a slave harem, and you're not going to give it to me! I've had it up to here with you! Why in the fuck aren't you a big, boobed goddess! Why do I get some mediocre pretty boy as my god! You have one job and that's to make me happy, so give me the power to make people my slave!"
Dalton was speechless. What he was saying was delusional. They did none of that. All he could do was repeat what he said earlier.
"We don't do that."
The truth hung in the air like a noose. Hajime was still denying that it was strangling him though.
"Oh, I get it. You won't do it." He sneered. "I bet if it was some pretty woman, you would bend yourself backwards for everything she wanted."
"We don't do special privileges," Dalton said. "These are just the rules."
"Bullshit! This is the problem with people like you. You don't help the nice guys of the world. Women just get whatever they want. They just break men's hearts. Why don't you see that! You should be helping me!"
"I can't do that." His tone was terse. "I can give you the powers that are in the pages that were in the binder." He motioned at the pages on the ground. "But that's about it."

"Okay." The man nodded. He leaned back with a confident smile. "I want all of them."
"I can only give one."
Hajime flipped the table. Dalton stumbled backwards to avoid it.
"Give me what I deserve!" He screamed.
Anger flared in Dalton's voice. This was growing old. "As I said. We cannot give you all the powers. We cannot give you a harem. We cannot give you any of that!"
"This is the problem with you all! Won't even give me a chance! You talk the talk about helping me, but you don't care! You only care about yourself! You won't help someone like me that was forgotten and unloved! Just like my parents! Just because I'm a fifty-year-old man, they told me I had to find a job! I told them I would become a video game designer! Why won't they believe in me! No one believes in me!"
He screamed, he thrashed, and he cried.
Dalton wasn't sure what to do. His heart was beating fast, his face hot from anger and frustration. He did what he thought he should do.
He stepped outside the room, closed the door. Then, he leaned back on the wall and slowly slid down until he sat on the ground covering his face.
What was that?
Ozul strode out of a meeting room, and then he spotted Dalton.
"What are you doing out here?"
"My client is..." Dalton still covered his face. He tried to think of the right word. "An embarrassment."
Ozul snickered. "No shit. We're the shittiest department, so it's obvious that we get the worst of the worst. Although, I did get a pretty good candidate this time around."
Dalton looked up at him. "What do you mean?"
"Well, he was a detective that died from eating glowing blue mushrooms. Sent him to a hero summoning." Ozul shrugged. "I just gave him a random ability to shoot beams from his gun."
"No, not that." Dalton stood up. "About us getting the worst candidates."
"Oh, that. Yeah, the other departments poach the most promising candidates. Then the rest trickle down on us." Ozul explained, then he clapped his hands. "Surprise! That's how we operate."
Dalton felt his stomach twist. "That means, I won't be able to transfer out of this department."
"Well, seeing as promotions are measured by the wellness index of the world, probably not."
"So, I'm stuck here," Dalton said. "And there's nothing I can do about it."
"Well," Ozul stepped closer to Dalton. "Let us say officially there is nothing you can do. Let's say there are other ways to get what we want."
Dalton eyed him suspiciously. "Officially? What are you saying?"
"Meet me tonight after work. I'll help get what you want." Ozul paused. "Make sure to bring a big bag of money."
Ozul turned to leave.
"Wait!" Dalton yelled.
Ozul looked back. "Yes?"
"Can you help me with this guy?" Dalton pointed at the wall behind him.
"Sure. Let me show you how it's done."
Ozul pulled the terminal from Dalton's arm, and stepped in the room. Hajime complained, but Ozul opened a portal and pushed him in.
"And that's how you do it." Ozul bowed to Dalton.

(see: not really a dilemma) The only question is, can an actual "casual", even if ex-pro, survive constantly playing a game? or will he end banging his head on the wall? The story will unfold mainly in-game, with little if any real life events happening.

Live by the Sword
--Follow a bandit prone to making poor choices in life. He lives in a somewhat medieval age where steel is king, blood is shed fairly lightly, and weakness gets you punished fast. But that's okay. As long as he has his sword, he'll be fine. Right? --This story is tragic and contains some depictions of violence and nudity. The attitudes of the characters don't represent my views and some of them are highly questionable. Due to these reasons, I've flagged the story as adult content. --I've been working on Live by the Sword since as far back as 2012 and it is my first actual effort at completing a book. Maybe I'll stick with it and there will be paperbacks of it some day. Who knows. Either way, I hope the words I tell give you amusement and perhaps some cause to think. Cheers.
