An optimistic man with more resolve than most you’ll meet

He can deal with anything and still land on his feet

Though his heart is being tested like never before

He’s ready for anything, be it his wife or war

Log gave her the crumpled letter, asking her to look

In his hand the very fancy looking paper shook

Delilah read it slowly, then she read it once again

“So we’re likely to be called, but it’s hard to say when”

Luckily the gods of rage are getting busier

Or I’d have had a hard time maintaining control of her

Despite her going half berserk, it seems she’ll find her way

I just hope there is never a repeat of today

Delilah frowned and put the note away and deeply sighed

Even after all she’d done, she seemed unsatisfied

“Do you think this portal business could be linked to Twig?

Could his destiny be wrapped up in something so big?”

Log just shook his head and shrugged his weary, broad shoulders

“My head’s more a tool for cracking open large boulders”

Delilah chuckled just a bit, then stood up straight and tall

“Whatever’s happening, together we will face it all”

Log did find relief when she renewed her composure

In all their days she’d never run away from adventure

She always faced her enemies with confidence and pride

Just as strong as any of the comrades at her side

Around the time she found her nerve, three friends came walking by

Pebbles parent’s and Leaf’s mother, who let out a sigh

“You’re slow on the best of days but that took way to long

A tantrum doesn’t suit a knight so stubborn and so strong”

Leaf’s mother shook her head and Pebble’s parents laughed out loud

Crystal had a kind expression, and Boulder looked proud

Delilah then explained the letter she received from Hawk

But none of her friends found the news to be too great a shock

Together they had faced many a troubled battlefield

But in their time together none had ever come to yield

But still they’d never known a time when people lived in fear

For even when the portals came, a hero too was near

As they had learned from their parents, and since the days of old

Heroes facing portals was a story often told

The gods were never hesitant to lend heroes a skill

And no one ever feared a life according to their will

But overnight their deities were overcome by fear

Sharing premonitions that something was drawing near

And every seasoned hero knew as well as they did now

Something big was coming, though they knew not when or how

Log looked quietly around at the sleepy little town

Where few he knew of had ever been seen wearing a frown

“There are only a few hundred people or so here

What shall we do if a threat did suddenly appear”

Boulder crossed his arms and voiced his thoughts in a soft voice

“I’d get the children somewhere safer if I had a choice

We may be strong enough to handle portals on our own

But this would be no place to leave them helpless and alone”

Crystal nodded in agreement, looking at her friends

“But where we choose to send them to hide, it really depends

Should we take them to the capital to wait this out

It’s defenses are the strongest, there can be no doubt”

Leaf’s mother impatiently began to wave her hand

“It’s clear that all of you are far too slow to understand

Time is of the essence, we must make our mind up soon

We should have evacuated by this afternoon

Whether it’s a human threat or monsters straight from hell

This village will soon be lost, you should know that as well

This is not the era we were born in anymore

No more hunting monsters, this will be an all out war”

Delilah looked suspiciously upon her speedy friend

“You make it sound as though the world might be about to end”

“I’m not sure at all, but I know this is something new

The gods suspect it, Twig may know it, you should feel it too”

Log, the ever optimistic fellow then spoke up

“Let’s not make a half empty cup of a half full cup

Most of us here in the village have a hero’s rank

Even the town drunk there is a famed high level tank

Of our children, most are ready to start fighting too

Sure there may be some toddlers, but there’s only a few

Twig’s the only kid I worry about in a fight”

The words slipped out but Log remembered his son’s current plight

He took a breath and tried to motivate his friends a bit

“Maybe we’re more ready for this than we would admit

I’m sure Twig if fine as well, he’s already so tough

If we stay and fight, I’m sure our strength would be enough”

For a while the conversation went along as such

Others joined, but as a group they couldn’t decide much

For so long despite countless fights, they’d always lived and thrived

And in the heat of their debate, the king’s envoy arrived
