CHAPTER TWENTY THREE
What is the enemy of my enemy anyway?
~
System Message
Twig, it’s time for you to go, my rule is absolute
The fragile fate of those you love is not yours to pollute
Though I cannot seem to touch your soul at present time
Remember I can punish anybody for your crime
Twig awoke to such a message, which he read in fear
After all, he still had hadn’t seen his eleventh year
Now he’d have to leave his home and family alone
To protect them from the broken fate that was his own

His parents met him at the door before the break of dawn
Hopeful he’d find answers on the journey he’d be on
He set out with a bag full of survival tools and snacks
A dagger on his waist and in his bag a lightweight axe
“Even though we deal with portals as fast as we can
Portals don’t just open according to some great plan
Many monsters roam through the lands which we do not know
Be careful of them please, no matter where you choose to go”
“You’ll be safe as long as you stay clear of portals, son
You can hunt or scavenge just as well as anyone”
We can only trust the System still has plans for you
Come back home as soon as you’ve done what you need to do”
With tears they sent him off before his sisters were awake

They couldn’t know that he was leaving for all of their sake
He didn’t understand himself, the nature of this quest
He only hoped he didn’t stumble on a monster nest
He walked out of the village into the forest of green
But now it looked quite different from the forest he had seen
Before it was a place where he would play with friends all day
Now he was alone and that was how he’d likely stay
He strained his eye to see but without his depth perception
He quickly tripped over a rock in his tired confusion
He was just about to break down crying then and there
But something took his mind off of how things were so unfair
Achievement: Classic Twig
So this is your life now eh, can’t say that I’m surprised
Though this is much worse than I ever could have surmised
It almost makes me feel a little bad for you, but no
This is what you get for ignoring advice, you know
“Just leave me alone you mean old god, I don’t need you
Go unless you’ve thought of something useful you can do”
Twig stood up defiantly and kept walking ahead
Ignoring the pain in his scraped knees that slowly bled
Achievement: It’s Better This Way
Just keep walking til you find yourself so far away
Whatever the System said, it is better this way
You never had a chance at doing any good at all
Now at least you won’t drag friends down with you when you fall
He thought about his friends, which helped him hold back all his tears
They had been his strength for more than half a dozen years
Even though his god was mean, he had a point right there
He’d never wish to drag them into a life so unfair

His mind returned to what had happened recently again
What had happened between his god and the System then
He noticed that they seemed unable to know what he thought
So he spoke to see if their attention could be caught
“System, if you’re listening, and my deity too
You owe me some answers since I am obeying you
Do you have a plan for me, and is my home safe now?
Can I ever see them again, some way or somehow?”
Achievement: You Should Stop That
Woah there now, you foolish boy, you really would tempt fate?
Best you reel that question in before it is too late
I don’t know much about Systems, but that thing is strong
I wonder if it has been involved here all along
System Message
Only a few times have people dared invoke my name
Most of them faced deletion, with just themselves to blame
But since you’re not in sync I still cannot delete you now
With the next update though, I’ll figure it out somehow

The Legendary Class
At the height of the Age of Terror, humankind lay shattered, its few survivors scattered like dust in the wind. It is said that at the brink of extinction, the Gods intervened and blessed five champions known as “The Titans” with legendary classes. To this day, every small child dreams of obtaining a legendary class. Whether there is any truth to this ancient tale is unknown, but it is a certainty that in each generation perhaps a handful of those children will, in fact, obtain a legendary class. But, if they ever did, the Gods no longer answer prayers, and, in modern times, a legendary class is often far from a blessing.

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.

Emerald Gaze

She need only learn how to use the new tools available to her to do so. Well that is if she can actually figure out how in the hells things work around here. Seriously, why is she expected to just know around half of these things when they hadn't even mattered to her until now? Partially inspired by Forge of Destiny.

Phantom Storm
"Have you heard, the entire Bonanno crew was brutally murdered!" Exclaimed a youth in his early teens. "What? you're lying, again!" Another similarly aged child responded with crisp denial in his tone. After all, the crew was infamous for their ruthlessness. An eery silence passed between them. Soon enough, the teens' curiosity trumped his ego, and he found himself inquiring in a meek voice. "So...Who did it?" "I heard my father talking about it while he was drunk. Guess what he said?..." The child responded, he was a natural-born storyteller. Listening intently, the other teen urged him on. "It was done by a single person. When the police arrived, the bodies were charred black, likely the work of an electro mage. Most had an arrow or two lodged in their body, and a few were even chopped into neat little slices by a sharp blade." He paused, inhaling sharply. "All the victims had shocked expressions on their faces. As if the enemy was invisible or something. That's why they call that person the Phantom Storm!" concluded the adolescent with an excited glint in his eyes. 2 CHAPTERS PER WEEK (Canada time) [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] -------------------------------------------- Follow Itsuki as he is reincarnated in an unfamiliar world, left to discover where he belongs in such a place. Witness his exploits. Watch him build his kingdom, receive a rare class, and overcome trial upon trial. This story is about a man trying to redeem his past errors, constantly striving for better, overcoming immense pain and loss. Our character will improve, learn, become better than yesterday, and strive for more power. All the while working his way up the food chain in this brutal and unforgiving new world. *Disclaimer:* - The protagonist starts weak and a little naive, but I guarantee he will become quite capable over time. There will be no sudden power gains. The protagonist will have to work hard for what he gets. - This story is not about a loner, he'll have a few companions, and they will not be useless. - Some romance will be explored but not take away from the story. The main character will not be dense. Absolutely no harem will happen, but there might be a few love interests, no more than 3. - I will try my best to not follow cliches and stay as original as possible. - This story is my first ever, whether online or in real life. Thus, I might have grammatical errors here and there. The story might have a few plot holes and other such minute mistakes, as well. But I guarantee to try my best. Please give me feedback so that I can deliver a better story and learn to write better.
