Agile, swift, and keen of tooth, the wolf is the preeminent hunter. Widely known to roam in packs. Though once they lived in close harmony with humanoids, fierce competition over prey brought Sentient Races to shun and eventually revile them. Thereafter, the wolves took to the eating of monsters and other beings. From this action arose diverse strains of wolf, varying greatly in form and adaptation, befitting their diet.

An attack by wolves upon civilized folk happens rarely, often only in times of desperation and even then only when the wolves have the advantage of numbers. This can change when these and other creatures are corrupted or changed. When the Mist and Aether began to corrupt beings under the actions of the Dark Truth, it dramatically altered the savage nature of normal beasts.

It would infect the animals and monsters and the more powerful of them would survive and be transformed into a more vicious and dangerous beast. Mad with the pain of its infection, and only through the shared suffering does it still retain some semblance of its pack instincts. Corrupted animals and monsters are always found in large groups and will tend to overwhelm a single target if they can, using their numbers to their advantage. It is fortunate that these creatures rarely survive their corruption for very long

Serena's Notes 1: As with most canines, it is rather easy to harvest their fangs and claws. The fangs are especially useful for more primative jewelry and are favored by the more outdoorsy type of person. Serena's Notes 2: It would appear that most animals that eat flesh have taken to eating monsters as well. Over the Ages, this seemed to cause them to evolve in unusual ways. Does that mean that humans would adapt and evolve if they devour the flesh of monsters? It would be fascinating to research.
