《Soulmancer》Chapter 28: Plans for the Future

Mat could feel the warm water flow on his skin, warming up every single bit of his body. He could feel the cold rush out from him and in place, what took over was the refreshing feeling of warmth and comfort.
It was late- very late in the night. Mat's body clock said two in the morning, and he was very much tired as much as he was, in contrast, excited.
A new city in a new world. Mat couldn't contain his excitement. He's been thinking of all the things he wanted to do, whether that be going on a shopping spree in a nearby mall or just wandering around, taking in the sights of the red dieselpunk city of Garafeit. He couldn't do that though. Right now, what he needed was sleep.
Mat turned to turn off the shower of water with a twist of a bulb. He reached for his towel nearby before smothering the cloth all over his hair and face. After wiping the wet off, he turned to face the mirror with a haggard look.
"Looking pretty good." Mat checked himself. Even through the dark circles in his eyes, he could still appreciate the way his shaggy brown hair complimented his Latino skin, and with his growing muscles and overall physique, he was starting to look the part of a thin but suave Latino. But he still had a long way to go before he could consider himself Asia's next top model.
Even though Mat was born from both parents with Puerto Rican blood, his native Filipino aunt was the one who took care of him while his parents were out traveling the world. His parents were still pretty cool though; they'd visit from time to time, checking on how Mat was doing in his childhood years- until they died.

Mat was nine then when it happened.
Still, he lived his life as best as he could. Now, that life ended up with him being transported to another world with magic and monsters.
Mat wrapped the towel around his waist and went out the bathroom and into the main area. Kun was asleep on the single bed and Laro was sprawled all over on the red carpet floor, snoring with a sliver of drool dripping down his mouth. His arms and legs were folded all over, with his face stuck hard on the floor. It was pretty amazing, he looked like he was posing for a gymnast photo.
"I guess he changed his mind about taking the double bed." Mat said as he eyed the double bed on one corner of the room. The brass red walls complemented the orange lanterns beside the bed, with the window nearby reflecting half of the gleam of the lights. It was a pretty cozy look.
Mat grabbed the clothes hung up on a rack. They were clean and dry- thankfully the room had a washing machine with an awesome dryer to match.
Mat then jumped on the double bed, smothering his face with all things soft and fluffy. He breathed a deep sigh of relief before grabbing the two pillows nearby then laid on his back.
He then raised his two arms above his head. One was in normal condition, but the other had an ominous green glow- the crippled hand where his summons were staying in.
"What should I do now?" Mat was lost in thought as he stared at the red ceiling above. It was true that he already decided not to come back home- to Earth, but how was he supposed to move forward on this fantasy world from here on out?

Nian, Ruan, and Youmu weren't going to be staying in Garafeit forever. Kun already handled the money problem of Mat's first day in Garafeit, taking into account the dinner and the room, but what then? When they would leave for another city, what was he supposed to do?
He couldn't rely on them forever.
Mat had to take care of himself from here on out. Going with that, he needed a plan.
First, he needed to take his part of the loot from Youmu and sell it off to a nearby marketplace. Mat didn't know how the economy was run in this world, and his knowledge in Economics was all but none, but he had to get his hands on some money. There was also the problem of his debt to Nian for all those health potions he borrowed in the dungeon, so desperately needed some cash in his pockets.
Second, Mat planned to register as an official adventurer. What he did in that dungeon, taking on the monsters with no adventurer's badge, was pretty illegal. If caught, jail time was the least of his problems. But as long as he could become an adventurer, there was no need to worry.
According to Nian, the process to become one was quite simple, only having written exams accompanied with the physical ones. Though he didn't know the specifics, it shouldn't be that different from what he's known back on Earth. There was a lot of money to be had in catching and killing the monsters in dungeons for loot.
Third- and finally- he needed to work under a guild. Nian, Ruan, Youmu, and Kun were already working under the banner of the Catastrophes, so that was an option to work under that guild. Still, it felt pretty leechy of him to keep following the same footsteps as them. If given the option, Mat wanted to try going his own way. If that meant joining another guild, so be it.
He planned it all through, and these three things were what he needed to be addressed first: starting funds, a stable job as an adventurer, and a guild to provide him with adventuring needs such as jobs and missions. There was also the matter of a dungeon clearing team, people he'd need to work with to fight in a dungeon. But the magic he was given, soulmancy, didn't seem like to work in a traditional tank-dps lineup.
Was going solo the best option then?
"Fuck." Mat didn't want to think so much already with his plate already full, so he put a pin on the thought before closing his eyes. He wrapped himself around the pillow beside, and with a deep and long breath and sigh, he fell into deep sleep.

Grimm Tales: A RWBY Story
Two years after losing everything, two sisters will try to rebuild the lives they one had, as well as mend the heartache left behind through their connection with the many strange cast of characters they meet, and the many strange story's they're caught up in. Grimm Tales is a RWBY fan fiction I wrote and illustrated from 2014 through 2016. Keep that in mind when experiencing the story and the art within it. Also keep in mind that this story is technically unfinished. I put this aside in October of 2016 after completing what you can call the "first season" of what was going to be a multipart series. Even though the entire story remains unfinished, things do end in a somewhat satisfactory manner.

Second Patriarch: Rise of the Liu Clan
After the death of his father, Liu Zhu must prevail over his older brother in order to become the Liu Clan's second patriarch and bring his family to glory within Yutian Country. In the process Liu Zhu will come across lucky chances, have brushes with death, and slowly expand his world beyond that of the small country he lives in. NOTE: Currently dropped for various reasons. The short version of why I dropped it is because even the shortest form of my outlining resulted in a main plot of at least 300 - 400 chapters and I messed up massively by directly adapting it from my first attempt at this, which was a choose your own adventure on another website. It did not make the jump well at all imo.

Khaldir's Observer
Markus Kuberski, a 21-year-old mechanical engineering student at the Vienna University of Technology and a weeb, is bored by life. He has no girlfriend he cannot meet up with his friends because there is another Covid-lockdown and getting a side-job is also unsuccessful. Therefore, he has started to write a web novel. “If I cannot be the main character with magical powers and a harem full of cute girls in real life then I will create my own universe and be its protagonist.” Although that has been his first thought, he neither dare to use himself as the main character’s template nor write a harem story. “I am not that desperate!” he muses to himself. Little does he know that he will get more than he asked for when a mighty existence becomes interested in his story and makes it a reality. Hello, this is my first attempt at creating something like a novel. English is also not my native language, so expect some grammar and punctuation issues. I am using Grammarly to help myself in this regard, but in some areas, the free app cannot correct everything. There is currently no fixed schedule, although I believe that two chapters per week should be reasonable. Depending on how much time I have, I can write more.
