《Blood Shaper》Chapter Eight

The building they ended up stopping at was the city guard’s headquarters for the district they were in. It was made of the same stone as every other building in the area and was a large square shape, taking up almost the entirety of a block in the center of the district.
Inside the building they had to stop at a checkpoint. Springcall told the guard on duty who they were and they got through. Leading Kay downstairs, Douglas glanced up as he spoke. “The policy for this kind of thing is that we take you to a secure room to do this, in case you get some kind of insane class. It’s a bit bleak down there, but we shouldn’t be long. The guard captain that will be there for the ‘safety’ portion of this is Captain Armis, and he’s a good man. The City Council representative will probably be some middle management bureaucrat with a list of classes that they would want to recruit. He’ll probably be a bit annoying, but we’ll get through this formality and then we’ll start looking for someone to train you.”
It was indeed bleak. It was just a cube shaped room made of the same greyish-brown stone as everything else, with a small chair slightly off center from the middle of the room. Kay was getting tired of thinking it as greyish-brown stone, and made another mental note to ask what it was called. It could be marble for all he knew, although he didn’t know if marble was great for building walls. He’d only ever seen it used for countertops. But was that a problem with it as a building material or a matter of cost? If it was more prevalent in this area, or even this world, it might see more use in construction…

Kay jumped slightly and refocused on the matter at hand when the door opened behind them.
In walked a taller human man with tanned skin off set by the two pale scars trailing across his face. His face was stern and Kay automatically stiffened in place as the man looked at him. A small smile crossed his face as he looked down at the BOA rep.
“Douglas.” He greeted him with a nod.
“Derman, good to see you. How’s the family?” Douglas replied.
“You know them.”
“So, the same as always?”
They both chuckled, obviously entertained by some inside joke.
“So,” Captain Armis gave Kay a once over. “This is out new Outworlder, then? Nice to meet you.” He held his hand out and Kay shook it. “I’m Captain Armis, Tumbling Rapids City Guard.”
His handshake was firm, and just a touch tighter than Kay would have liked. He tried to keep the slight discomfort off his face as he returned the handshake. “Kenneth Davis, but I go by Kay.”
“Well met, Kay.” The captain nodded at him, then gestured with his head at the smaller man behind him. “This is Lesser Councilmember Roctis.”
The man gave a patently false smile. “A pleasure.”
The Lesser Councilmember was a pale, skinny man shorter than Kay, and he obviously didn’t want to be there. Kay noted his slightly pointed ears, not as prominent as Delilah’s had been. A half elf? I guess I should try and stop being surprised every time I meet a species from a story.
“Well then.” Captain Armis pointed at the chair. “Take a seat, kid, and we’ll get started.”
“Sure?” Kay walked over to the chair and sat down. He ignored the appellation, since he was a kid next to the obvious experienced captain.

“Some people get a head rush and fall over during the beginning of the process.” Douglass told him as he fiddled with some small device he’d suddenly pulled out of seemingly nowhere. “Now, this will take just a moment, and your status will be unlocked. You’ll tell us your starting class, and we’ll go about our day.”
Roctis coughed slightly from his position by the door.
Douglas looked up at Kay, rolling his eyes. “And Lesser Councilmember Roctis does have a skill allowing him to tell if someone lies, so please don’t.”
Kay supposed he could think of a reason or two to lie, since technically this whole situation was supposed to be for safety purposes, but Kay didn’t even know what kind of classes might be the kind they were worried about. “Of course.”
Douglass held out the small device, which looked like a barbecue lighter, with the thing end pointed at Kay. He pressed the button on the end, and Kay heard a small clicking noise, which seemed to echo all around him.
[Status Unlocked]
The screen suddenly popped up in Kay’s vision. He mentally willed his full statue open, using the quick pieces of advice Douglass had given him on th way over.

Kay stared at the screen as it floated in front of him. Just the fact that it was there was unsettling to him in no small way. Just another reminder that he wasn’t home, and never would be again. He took a deep breath and sent a wordless prayer up to who or whatever might be listening. A desperate plea that someday he could call this world home and be comfortable here.
“So?” Douglas asked. “What did you get?”
“Oh, um.” Kay quickly reread the name of his first class and frowned. Blood Mage sounded ominous, even if he was just a novice. “Novice Blood Mage.”
With a burst of movement that Kay couldn’t follow at all, Captain Armis went from only partially paying attention a few feet away, to right in front of Kay, the head of his mace only inches away from Kay’s head.
Kay stared at the slightly glowing weapon, frozen in place. Apparently I was right!

my first story ^U^
author note: yaaa hurray it’s my first story ^U^ i hope you all like it! all characters belong to my special friends who submitted them!!ok heres the first chapter enjoy ^U^ TL note: Some of you may be wondering why I am translating a story written originally in English, to English. I remember reading this story many years ago, as a teen, and had since dismissed it as a bizarre fever dream. Only recently, through much Googling, did I manage to rediscover it, and as such decided to not only read it again, but fix the author’s many typing issues and share the context of what I remember from its original happening. I believe the story underneath to hold deeper meanings than its strange happenings, but at minimum I hope you will appreciate it for the sheer weirdness of it all. For the best experience, skim it for your first reading and, if you are interested, read more deeply the second time. Some typing is left as-is to preserve what I believe to be authorial intent, or at least necessary effect. If you notice any typing issues I managed to miss, please email them to me at [email protected]

Journey of Infinite Steps
Science Fiction/ Low fantasy Iliad. Oliver just wanted a job that could keep his family fed, and himself sane. Was that so much to ask for? Apparently. As he instead ends up facing monsters and dodging his way to another world instead. Competent as he views himself figuring out how to reopen a portal back home by himself is defiantly above his knowledge base. Of coarse it would be vastly simpler if he could keep 'getting back home' as his primary goal. 'Staying alive' is unfortunately a far more immediate and relevant goal. I will post any content warnings on a Per Chapter basis. Divisive content will be as skip-able as I can reasonably manage Discord Link will be available for those interested in assisting editing/ coauthoring. Especially character writers/those willing to work out the math/ economies and world building even if only as a wall to bounce ideas off of.-----Full Synapsis contains serious spoilers----- Looking to take care of his family, Oliver finds himself flung into a faraway place. Try as he might, his Iliad will not be simple or peaceful as he'd like. Alas the slow and unending war of Chaos and Order has long memories and longer reach. If Oliver is to make his way back home it looks like He'll have to solve the universe one fight and mystery at a time. Especially as the Laws of Physics shift, often on a per world basis. Hopefully there is still a home to come back to.

Sarsaparilla's Scary Super Power. Completed
Sarsaparilla is an older teenage girl living on Mars. And, like many other young people around her, she has a super power. Or, rather, she is supposed to have a super power. Only she has never been able to activate it, she doesn’t even know what her super power is. This annoys her, tremendously. But she hides this behind a really sweet smile. Adalace is another teenage girl, also on Mars. She knows what her own super power is, and it is quite a good one. She is also really cute… so long has she keeps her feelings under control and doesn’t let out anything from her dark past. Teylon is a man, currently living on Earth. He likes to think of himself as still young, even if he is over fifty. He’s a bit smug about his successful career and is thinking of retiring… until a sadly unfortunate event leads him to the conclusion that he had better immigrate to Mars. Immediately. Apparently, meeting one’s own Angel of Death tends to cause people to make profound changes to their lives… Mars society had better brace itself, because once these three people, plus another three also not so quite stable individuals, collide with each other, the resulting explosion is not going to leave anyone on Mars unaffected. This is another Esmeralda, the Angel of Death, story. It follows on from my previous two such stories, but it is in no way dependent on the previous stories. They can be read in any order. It is fully written and proof read (using Word for Windows, no real editor touched this transcript) and comes to about 247,000 words (about 895 Royal Road pages). It is organized into 50 chapters and I will be publishing them roughly one per day. In my writing, there are multiple characters and multiple points of view. Each change in a point of view is introduced by a header, giving the viewpoint character’s name first, and possibly a title. Inside a Point of View section, dialog in italics represents the Point of View character’s thoughts, while dialog between quotes represent normal spoken dialog. This story is very much inspired by the anime A Certain Scientific Railgun. However I have only taken some elements from the anime, and changed everything I took to make my own story, and so it does not count as fanfiction. Yeah, I know, the book cover page isn’t very good. It’s the best I could do, by tracing over a stock image. The two ladies shown are supposed to be Adalace and Sarsaparilla. Ideally I would have liked there to be two images of this pair, one where they are smiling sweetly and looking cute, and one where they are looking really angry and dangerous. But that totally exceeds my graphics abilities. You will just have to imagine it.
