《The Ascension Age 》Chapter 21: Deciding On A Job

Sera nodded before responding to Aire's question. "I guess you've already noticed, but I'm a big fan of senior Ramalia. Even though she's from another race, she's still a genius I look up to. To be honest, she exceeds in any field she dips her finger into. That's probably why she was selected as the leader to research the Roaming Stellar Light. However, the thing she excels the most at are Stellar Suits."
Aire thought he heard that name before, prompting him to ask, "Stellar Suits...I think I saw some information regarding those somewhere before. Aren't they things used by Stellar Risers that can increase their overall power? I think it was some kind of armor...or something."
Sera's eyes lit up as she nodded, replying, "Yeah! Those ones, alright! They're the dream of every Stellar Riser who wishes to reach the top!"
However, Sera quickly noticed Aire's confusion and understood why, explaining, "Don't worry, it's not rare for normal people who haven't entered the world of Stellar Risers to not know much about them. After all, they're extremely expensive and often involve many secrets. That being said, it's highly unlikely that you'll see them in the media. You will need to intentionally look for it if you want any information to appear in the search results."
Sera continued, "Even then, the information you'll get are regarding commonly used Stellar Suits, not those superb models. Those models are all old ones that only poor Stellar Risers would use. Of course, even those things are still much better than having none."
Sera looked more like a kid as she continued to talk about the Stellar Suits. "Now then, I guess it's pretty obvious, but I'm a student who is focused on Stellar Suit research. As mentioned before, my Stellar Energy Aptitude isn't that much better compared to any other Riser, just slightly. However, I'm pretty confident in my skills as a Stellar Suit Designer."

Kymei shrugged his shoulders as he threw a bucket of cold water over Sera's excitement, adding, "However, she never had the chance to really use her designs, just drafting them."
Hearing that, Sera could not help but turn gloomy as she let out a sigh. "Sigh... That's what it means to be poor. At most, the teachers let me help with their research. However, Kymei's right. I haven't obtained the opportunity to use the designs I thought of. Fuck! I have so many ideas! Why must money make the world go round?!"
Altina couldn't help but hug Sera after hearing that as she said, "Don't worry. One day, I'll have enough money to build a Stellar Suit, and I'll make sure that you're gonna be the one to create it."
Sera immediately hugged back as she wept about their lack of money. Not wanting to bother them, Aire turned to Kymei and asked, "Ahem...how about you? You were always good at sports back in school. Could it be they have something like Stellar Sports?"
Kymei's mouth twitched as he replied, "To hell with Stellar Sports! Do you think the Baulmu Alliance would waste their Stellar Resources on sports? Fuck that! First of all, I only used sports in the past since it was one of the best methods to be recognized earlier."
Kymei then calmed down a bit before heading back to the main topic, telling Aire his occupation. "Sera's good at designing Stellar Suits, while Altina's good at combat. As for me, I'm good at Stellar Rune Circuits."
"Stellar...Rune Circuits?" Aire pondered over that for a bit before asking, "Isn't that something only intelligent people work with? I think you said something you shouldn't have."
Sera and Altina couldn't help but burst with laugher after hearing that. With just one comment, Aire drove away all their gloominess. Well, there was one guy who wasn't the least bit happy about that comment.

"Fuck you!" Kymei felt killing Aire. "Just so you know, your grandfather, ME, am an amazing Stellar Rune Circuit researcher. What? Just because I was good at sports back in school, you thought I was an idiot?"
"Yes." Aire nodded in response, not hiding his real feeling at all. Unsurprisingly, poor Kymei was laughed at even more by Altina and Sera after that.
"Hmph! Then, what about you?" Kymei soon asked, trying to get back at Aire. "Can you do anything at all? So what if your talent is greater than us? If you can't do anything else, then you might as well be useless."
Aire nodded straight away, responding, "Of course, there's something I'm very good at."
With that, Sera, Kymei, and Altina's interests were piqued as Aire continued, "I can fall asleep in less than 30 seconds!"
*Bang! Boom! Crash!*
Without hesitation, Kymei gave him a thorough beating. Poor Aire really thought that it was an amazing ability. After all, everyone else he knew always said that they took some time to fall asleep unless they were extremely tired, some even taking hours. But for Aire, he could do that at basically any time of the day or night. Sadly, the others didn't share his beliefs.
"How can you beat up your roommate like that? Where's the friendship between team members?"
Altina then grabbed Aire's shirt and pulled him up, saying, "Friendship your ass! Since you don't have anything you're good at, you'll spend the rest of the day practicing combat with me."
Aire couldn't help but let out cold sweat as he hastily said, "Wait, wait, wait! I should at least have the right to choose something I could do, right? Otherwise, won't it be a waste of time?"
Altina narrowed her eyes before asking, "Like what?"
Aire pondered over it and had an idea as he thought, 'Sera and Kymei seem to be doing some kind of easier job. At least, it doesn't seem to have heavy labor.'
"Kymei, your field is related to Stellar Suits as well, right?"
Kymei nodded, responding, "Yes. In fact, it isn't wrong to say that one can't exist without the other. Sera's a Suit Designer, while I'm a Circuitry Researcher. Stellar Suits need both of them, or it won't be anything more than a beautiful piece of metal."
Aire smiled in response before asking, "In that case, isn't there any other field in the middle of those two where you could use my help?"
"Field in the middle?" Sera began to think about it as an idea popped into her mind. "Oh, right! Aire has high Stellar Energy aptitude, so he's bound to be able to manipulate a lot of Stellar Energy in the future."
Kymei knew where Sera was going, saying, "Hey, that might really work now that you say that."
The two of them then brightly smiled at Aire, which gave him the chills. Soon, he asked, "Wh-What is it that you need help with?"
Sure enough, they answered straight away, simultaneously replying, "We need a Stellar Smith!"

A spiraling doom awaits the world of Isulia. **************** I put the gore warning not because my book is overly gory (It's not constantly blood and guts). However, there are several moments that are extremely violent. I've always loved shows/movies such as, (The Expanse, The Boys, Banshee, Kingdom of heaven, Vikings, Attack on Titan, Baccano, etc.) I am descriptive of the scenes with violence. So be warned :) I've worked long and hard and have finally finished my third draft. Still needs work but everything storywise is complete. There are still a few things I need to add and tweak. Grammatical errors and flushing out the characters and dialogue still needs work. If you see any errors or plot holes, please feel free to point them out. It helps me improve upon the story. 8 79The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
8 282The World isn't as Ugly nor Beautiful as You Think
The original translation of Dunia ini Tidak Seburuk atau pun Seindah yang Kau Kira by Desope When I have a pen in my hand and paper before me, I think I want to write something to cast every despair in my pathetic life away. I have a figure of a depressed guy whose fate is too much: saving the world. He is not stupid nor even smart, he is not ugly nor even good looking. He is just a nijikon (A person who loves anime character or such more than real one) like me. He once thought to give up on life, but an event changes his life. I'm sure you guys start guessing how the story goes, but too bad, this one is different than the others.
