《The Guardians' Throne - The First Magic Swordsman 》Chapter 348: Duel

After hearing that, Laiex recognized one of the spears on Zaos's back and then dashed toward him with all his might and tried to attack his neck with his swords from both sides. Zaos just swung down his sword with a single hand, but then Laiex jumped to the side and dodged the swing. He tried to hit Zaos's heart with one of his swords, but Zaos enhanced his left hand and blocked the attack.
"I will show you only this once, what I can do when I try hard enough," Zaos said.
Laiex jumped backward even though he still could attack with his other sword. He did the right thing because he was already preparing for another attack, and dodging his attack would be difficult at that distance. Before Laiex could prepare for another attack, Zaos enhanced his legs and arms with magic and then assumed the tail guard. Zaos suddenly charged and then attacked horizontally with a full swing.
Somehow, Laiex reacted on time to block the attack, and he succeeded without having to see his swords breaking. Those words also seemed like magic weapons, but that wasn't important. The impact made Laiex being pushed backward for several meters, and before he could stop moving, Zaos attacked again.
Laiex had planned to block the attack with one sword and attack with the other, but he changed his mind at the last moment. With his cross guard, he blocked Zaos's full swing, and he ended up just being pushed backward for a couple of meters. At that point in time, Zaos had already confirmed that those two words weren't normal ones. Aside from the fact that he endured two of his attacks, he noticed that Drannor wasn't receiving much damage in his arms. Upon impact, he was supposed to feel much more vibration when the blades collided, but Zaos could see that didn't happen.

Before Zaos could start the third attack, Laiex moved forward and then bent his body downward when Zaos approached and swung his weapon. He ended up escaping suffering any damage, but once again, he gave up on attacking when he prepared to swing his sword toward Zaos's face and saw him looking at the motion as if he was waiting for something.
Zaos had prepared to steal one of his father's swords, but his father had seen between his intentions. Even though Zaos was faster and stronger with the enhancements, his father was more experienced, so he could stop his attacks and see his movements and then change his actions in a single moment if he noticed that something was off.
Brute strength wasn't the answer as long as his father had those two swords, so Zaos assumed the ox guard. If strength wasn't enough, perhaps he would be able to solve the problem with speed. Laiex sparred against Zaos while he used that type of attack before, but not when Zaos went all out, so he had to take his time and get used to his rhythm before anything. Like lightning, Zaos began to run toward his father and try to stab him. Laiex tried to block them a few times, but soon he realized that it wasn't a good idea. Even though Zaos was putting the strength of only a single arm in each strike, the weapon's weight made things much more complicated.
Laiex jumped to the sides and then backward to escape the sword's reach and managed to dodge most attacks. However, little by little, Zaos's attacks began to approach. At first, the blade and the tip only scratched his armor, but now Laiex could feel a lot of weight when his armor was touched. He used his swords to deflect the strikes to the sides, but he only could do so much against so many strikes and while he was in a completely defensive stance.

Laiex noticed that while Zaos was attacking, he was paying attention to his footsteps, and he was slightly changing his posture according to it. That was another thing that Zaos learned after fighting against Camus… how to watch his foe and then foresee their movements based on the minimal amount of movements from his posture. He wasn't at that level yet, but Zaos's attacks already became much harder to dodge even though he wasn't a master of that technique yet.
When Zaos prepared a more powerful thrust, he suddenly frowned when he saw his father throwing his sword toward his head. The movement had been sudden, and it had been pretty weak, but Zaos was in the middle of an attack, and he wouldn't be able to dodge it. So, he clenched his teeth and moved his head to the side as much as possible.
In the end, Zaos dodged the attack, but the sword's blade still cut the left side of his forehead and head slightly. Blood began to flow from the wound, and it fell on Zaos's left eye. Zaos finished his attack and then prepared to retreat and then heal his wound in a single moment, but then he saw his father's right hand approaching his face. Then Zaos's heard the sound of the sword flying back. Zaos knew that his helmet would protect the back of his head, but he still was forced to dodge his father's punch and, consequently, the sword that flew back toward him. Laiex slashed with the other blade, but Zaos blocked the attack with his own before retreating once.
"Good reflexes," Laiex said.
Zaos ignored that and then tried to close the wound by using Heal, but the wound didn't close much, to his surprise. Healing magic wasn't working… Zaos frowned, but then he realized that it was due to the sword that hit him. It seemed that they had some weird properties.
"One of them can cause wounds that don't heal for a while, and then other decreases the power of impacts," Zaos said. "Together, they attract each other… Those are the swords one of our ancestors used a long time ago."
"You remembered that. I am impressed," Laiex said.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
