Stella Marchand's POV
After I met Laura and that handsome hunk of hers, I got a call from my husband stating that my mother-in-law was coming for a visit. I don't think that the law was changing again.
After we got married, Xavier told me everything, about his secret, about his demotion, about his exile. I felt sorry for him as he lost everything so that he could be together with me. I was happy but I also felt guilty. Xavier knew about it so he assured me that it's worth it.
"Honey? I'm home," I said as I rushed from the bar to get to the house that we bought together. Xavier might be losing his position in the pack but he still has his skills. So, he worked as a carpenter by opening up his own business.
After I got my Ph.D. in English, I was an assistant professor at my old University, the University of Verona as my best friend, Laura was the assistant professor in the Human Civilisation department, under history and archeology.
"Mama," I said in French as I was greeting her. I told Xavier that I can speak French and I said that when his mother decided to visit, I will speak French with her.
"My dear, you know the language?" She asked surprised to know her daughter in law was fluent in her mother tongue.
"Yes, I was double majoring in English and French. Besides, my late grandfather was French as well," I said as I went to kiss her cheeks. She smiled at me before Xavier went to kiss me on the lips briefly.
"Sorry, I was not expecting any visitor," I said as I went to clean up some mess around the kitchen. I have to blame Xavier for this. He wanted dessert in the kitchen.

Me as dessert on the counter.
I blushed as I was remembering the event last night. I was smiling as I took some scones and cheesecakes to serve my mother in law.
"So, will you be staying long?" I asked as she was chuckling at me.
"I just arrived and you wanted to get rid of me already?"
"No, that's not what I meant," I said as I can sense my face was heating up. Mama laughed before she sipped on her tea and sighed.
"I have come with news," she said as she looked at Xavier. I was holding my breath as I wanted to know what she meant by that.
"Caleb wants you back at the island. Zack has been missing," she said as she was staring at me. I looked up at Xavier as his face was unreadable.
"Why is he missing?" He asked.
"We don't know. Something about his mate rejecting him," she said that made Xavier arched his eyebrows.
"Was he on the island still?'' He asked. Mama shook her head.
"We don't know but I think he is. Still trying to prey on Sam to accept him," Mama said as she was shaking her head at that statement.
"Sam?" I asked as I turned to look at Xavier.
"Sam works at the cafe?" I asked as Mama nodded at me.
"Why? Do you know her?" She asked as I laughed.
"Well, we used to go around the town together," I said as Mama was looking at me.
"Perhaps, you can persuade her to accept Zack. I think he was ready to go berserk if this continues. Caleb afraid for the safety of the others on the island," Mama said as Xavier was squeezing my hands.

"We will depart immediately," he said before Mama nodded.
"Well, that was nice to get off my shoulders. Now, what's for dinner?" She asked as she beamed at me. I gulped before I hastily trying to put together a dinner.
I hoped she don't mind pot roast and salad.
Later that night, we went to bed as I was putting some Aloe Vera on my face as Xavier was rubbing some lotion on his hands.
"You think we must go?" I asked him as I turned to look at him. He was reflexing his muscles which I gulped. I needed to control my desire now as I could jump on him. But not tonight. His mother was next to us.
"Yes," he said. I hesitated. Should I tell him or not? Maybe he already knows about this.
"Xavier, I have something to tell you," I said as I was taking his hands into mine. I took a deep breath as I was looking into his grey eyes. He was waiting for me to say something.
"I'm pregnant," I said finally as I turned to look at his face. He was emotionless. Did I just dropped a bomb on him and he has nothing to say? After a few minutes, I was waiting for him to say something.
"Say something," I said as Xavier was kneeling in front of me. He was still emotionless before he kissed me. I pushed him away as I was glaring at him.
"You don't want it,"
"What makes you think that?" He asked me. I sighed as I was rubbing my stomach. Instantly, his hand was on mine.
"You were silent the whole time," I said as I can sense that tears were threatening to get out of my eyes.
"Who said that? Why do you have to get that conclusion on your own?"
"Because you were quiet," I said timidly before he kissed my hair.
"I already know you're pregnant since your scent changed a few weeks ago," he whispered as I turned to look at him.
"So, you just know the news before I even told you?" I asked him. He nodded. I slapped him playfully on the arm before he smiled at me.
"So, are you okay to travel?"
"It's been 4 weeks so it would not be a difficulty," I said as he was pulling me to stand before he went to the bed as he was trying to lay me down, with him on the bed.
"Stella, once we got there, I don't think we can come back here," he said as he was looking at my eyes. I smiled at him before I kissed him.
"That's alright, I will ask for a teaching position at the University of Paphos. I think there was an opening last time I checked," I said as he smirked at me.
"Must be Caleb's idea,"
"Maybe but enough about that. Why don't you show your wife how lonely she will be as she has been separated from her husband the whole day?" I purred as he smirked at me.
"With pleasure, my love," he said as we were fulfilling our carnal desires.

A sensitivity reader (someone who goes through your manuscript and assesses representations in your work) identified a number of issues surrounding the Filipino representation in BTM. Dismissing Darkness

The passengers know they are never going home, not after the lengthy journey ahead of, and to a lesser extent behind them. They while away their time frozen in body and plugged into a simulation in mind waiting for a new planet to explore and colonize. Currently on hiatus. If I get back to writing this one, it will be after I tweak it to make it feel less like an empty world with too many extras in the background.
