The roar made Amelia and Vincent hold their heads in pain as it threatened to blow their eardrums off.
Vincent's concentration was broken by this and the balls of fire soon dissipated into hot air.
Like a switch, A chilling cold assaulted them bringing about their bodies to tremble from the touch of the cold wind, but yet in certain places, there was a burning feeling.
Luckily the roar ceased and Vincent was able to conjure a flame with haste. But, he found himself just able to conjure a candle worth of fire.
He pushed past the loud ringing in his head and tried to pour more energy into the fire but still found himself unable to. He couldn't even move his inner ether flow.
"Why won't you move!" He roared out in frustration.
[The roar contains a disorienting effect.. It scatters the mind and affects its connection to your body and your ether pool. Hence, Destabilising your control.]
[The Eidetic Library is currently working on stabilizing your mind. It will be done in about 5 minutes.]
'That long!'
[The roar comes from a powerful beast, maybe even an SSS-Rank. I speculate that it may have some soul disorienting effects. For now, you should focus on your friend. She doesn't have the same privilege that you do.]
'Amelia!'
Vincent glanced at Amelia and saw that she had passed out on the ground, trembling non-stop as a stream of blood trickled from her reddened nose
Hurriedly, he hugged Amelia and asked the system, 'System, can I start my fire core.'
[..., If you focus enough. You should be able to.]
'Ok'
'....'
Vincent took a deep cold breath, ignored the icy chill on him and the burning he felt on his toes and fingers, and focused on a single thought, 'Fire!'
On his chest, A reddened glow emerged, it caused the surrounding air to heat up which alleviated Amelia's trembling.
Vincent sighed in relief but his joy was cut short when he felt a tremble on the ground and a powerful pressure encroaching.
'The beast!' He remembered.
'I can't leave Amelia like this, she'll die. But I can't carry her along either, she'll only pull me down plus the fact that I'm not still in the right mind to cast my skills.'
"What can I do?" He asked himself
[I have a dangerous suggestion], The system chimed in.
'Huh?'
[Devour the Ice Planar Giant.]
Vincent's eyes widened in realization, 'That's right! I can always absorb the Ice Planar Giant. It would be a great help at this moment.'
'But why did you call it dangerous?' he asked the system.
[I've determined that somehow, This inheritance trial space is affecting your connection to [Yggdrasil]. If you use [The Word] it would be without its help.]
'I see… However, I hadn't devoured 2 Planar Giants then. But now... I think I should have just enough ether to finish it.'

[Probably.]
'Even you are not sure, Classic fodder system.' He chuckled within
[I am just a subsidiary of the main system, Don't expect too much from me.], It chirped back.
'Yeah, Yeah' He replied while rolling his eyes.
'I will do it... But Amelia…' He said while glancing at her
Vincent stretched his hands towards Amelia's head and tried something he thought of 'What if I..'
His hands glowed for a moment before it dimmed, and when they did, Vincent could feel Amelia relax even further.
'Yes! It worked.'
'This is my first time trying it on a living being but it worked, Guess my hard work paid off.'
Sleep Inducing, One of the ideas Vincent worked on while he trained during the past month. It first came as an afterthought of one of the applications of his illusions.
But when told to be possible by the system he was interested in it and worked on it.
He had never tried it on a subject before, so he was happy that it worked on Amelia.
"Now to devour the giant."
[Hurry, I can sense it getting closer. 3 minutes have passed, the effect should have lessened enough to use [The Word].] The system warned.
"Ok, I'm on it."
Vincent took out the Inheritance Scroll from his storage ring and willed to enter.
His soul left its physical container and dived into the pocket space within the scroll.
When the Elemental Planar Giants saw him, they attempted to bow but Vincent ignored their presence and came before the Ice Planar Giant, the one that once tried to kill him.
Without a word to her, He raised his hands towards the giant and called upon the almighty power of [The Word]
"Devour," He said plainly
Upon activation, Vincent could feel his almost full reserve fall to rock bottom and beyond.
Every single drop of ether was drained from his pool, and when it bottomed out. It tried to drain more.
But Vincent wouldn't allow that.
A bottle of Mid Nexus potion/Ether Recovery Potion appeared in his hand as it did in the hand of his soulless physical body.
As his soul form raised the Potion and drank, so did his physical form.
Through his soul, he could remotely control his body like this.
This potion boosted his body's ether recovery rate and lessened the burden [The Word] placed on it.
But one is not enough to compensate for the greedy skill that threatened to drain his lifeforce.
So Vincent took 4 more.
With this, his ether recovery rate rose above the consumption rate and Vincent felt relieved.
"I underestimated how much Ether it takes to do this. I could have died there." He said in relief, as he felt regret at being too lax in his doings
"Without Yggdrasil, I shouldn't call upon this power without preparation." He said with determination.

[New Skills Gained.]
"Huh?, Really that fast." He said in surprise.
He glanced to the original position of the Ice Planar Giant and found her gone.
However, he could feel his ether pool grow bigger and his recovery rate increase even further.
Soon his ether pool was half-filled.
[This is the 4th Planar Giant that you have devoured, You have gotten used to it.]
"Oh, That sounds right." He commented.
"Either way, My job here is done. Now to take care of the beast." He said and exited the space.
Vincent's soul reentered into his body and it came to life.
Yet before he could rest, His instincts flared in alarm.
From above he saw the shadow of a huge palm fall upon the tent.
However, Vincent only sneered at it.
"Useless."
A massive blast of ether burst out of him, eradicating the tent around him and pushing whatever attacked him further away. But that wasn't all. The blast was so strong that it also canceled out the weather.
The snowstorm and heaps of snow were all cleared out. It left only an even barren land and a clear sky.
Vincent found himself in a different area than before, Surprisingly there were trees around him outside the range of his ether blast. But that did not matter to him now.
He stood up from his position and carried Amelia in a piggyback, then looked into the distance and said out, "Come."
"RAAAAARRRR"
From within the forest, the dark beast rushed out.
It looked like an Artic bear but was more monstrous and beastly. It was about 11 feet tall, two times the size of Vincent.
This gave it the intimidating pressure of a giant, its jagged thing and veined red eyes also boosted this pressure.
However, facing this beast Vincent did not waver.
He readied himself for it
The beast entered Vincent's range and pushed itself forward, instinctively moving its ether pool towards its limbs which increased its explosive power and speed.
"RAAAAWWWWRRR" It roared again as it came upon him
In response, Vincent raised his hands to the beast, his eye color unknowingly shifting from hazel to an icy blue touch as he cast one of his newfound skills.
"[Authority of Water and Ice]" he said slowly
The beast raised a limb and lunged towards him with its sharp claws ready to dig into his body.
However, it was too late.
"[Domain Of Absolute Zero]",
*Crack*
In an instant the lunging beast was frozen solid, crystallized in a cocoon of never melting ice created out of thin air.
Everything in the skills range was frozen solid, even the snow on the floor.
However, Vincent was not done.
He settled his index and thumb upon each other and snapped.
"Break."
*Crack*
The form of the beast exploded into a minuscule crystal, so as everything that was caught in the skill
Vincent rested his hands and sighed in relief, His ether pool almost refilling itself instantly as it returned to its dormant state.
But before he could relax, he heard a calm, lovely fairy voice from behind him.
"So you have more than 2 abilities, I always knew you were more than meets the eye." He heard.
Vincent looks behind him to see Amelia, who should be asleep staring at him with a mysterious smile.
'Oh, Shit!.'
///// Broscour Forest, Ama Ivory 3rd Person POV/////
After slaying the SS-Rank Dark Beast. Ivory went on with her hike but at a fast pace.
Here she was able to let loose, so she dropped her illusions a while back and let her 4 tails out. Ama rampaged on any beast unfortunate to cross her path
However, she soon wore herself out and settled into a cave she found.
"I am still far from reaching the peak," She said while glancing at the clouds, "But If I continue at this pace, I should be able to reach the top by the end of today."
Ama created a clearing for herself and sat on a rock placed there.
She took out a loaf of bread and a bottle of water from her bag and ate it, dousing her hunger and nourishing her body.
Ama decided to rest a little bit more but was unable to when all of a sudden she had to duck to avoid the swipe of a sharp object aimed at her head.
She rolled out of the cave and halted to face her attacker.
Slowly her attacker came out, and Ama couldn't help but sigh in annoyance when she saw what it was.
"Just my luck." She said while annoyed.
Her attacker was a blue being that stood on two feet, it had a long tail with a sharp edge.
It looked at Ama although it had no eyes it was able to sense her. Its mouth housed a set of jagged sharp teeth that was covered in fresh blood signifying that it had just… eaten.
It let out the aura of an SS-Rank as it stared at her not desiring Ama's flesh but rather her heat.
Ama couldn't help but feel disgusted at the image of the monster this lost one was.
In a normal case, she would have settled to use her sharp claws as her weapon but decided that this beast needed… extra care.
Ama reached into her bag and brought out her special weapon.
A…

“One in a billion.” Jack kept repeating the mantra in his head. “One in a billion.” That was the number the Omni-Corps liked to cite whenever someone stepped onto one trans-mat pad and then simply… never stepped off the other. “Safer than a car,” he repeated as he slogged through the snow, his mining overalls doing at least a passable job of keeping out the cold as he brushed aside a tree branch. “Safer than a plane. Or a starship. Safest form of transport in the Star League.” He slammed his fist into a nearby tree, exo-empowered strength shattering it into little more than scattered bark and kindling. “Yeah, well I never heard of a car ride stranding some prick in another dimension!” He roared, his voice echoing through the seemingly endless forest around him. Then he kept marching. He’d seen the fire off in the distance. And given all the snow around, he sincerely doubted it was natural. Which left the unnatural. Which meant people. He hoped. Because even if the trans-mat had screwed up, he doubted it had dumped him too far off the central finite curve. The fact that the air was breathable and that he could recognize the trees around him as oak told him that much. And if the dimension he was in had trees native to Earth, chances are it would have animals too. Of which humans would hopefully be no exception. “Because I’ll be damned if I spend the rest of my days talking to goddamn squirrels.” No, if there were humans on this mudball, he was going to find them. One way or another.
