《Modern Weapon Summoning System》Chapter 30 - Road Towards Liverley

Cole rode the horse while Del was holding his head from the strong headache. He shouldn't have drunk as much as yesterday. However, Del felt that he deserved that headache just because he wanted to win a mere drinking competition with David as foolish as it was.
"Are we there yet?" Del asked.
"Nope," Cole said.
"Are you sure?" Del said.
"Yeah, c'mon, as far as I could see, it's only grass and grass. There is no city in the vicinity. Well, there are trees too, but I don't think you're looking for that," Cole said.
"Headache, headache, and headache," Del muttered.
"Hey, I didn't drink that much alcohol last night," Cole said.
"Yes, because you're busy with other things such as getting two women at once. Next time, bring me too, alright? Damn, I never thought that you can convince two women without even saying anything to them," Del said.
"Hahaha, yeah, sure, I'll tag you along next time," Cole giggled as Del kept holding his aching head.
To make matters worse, the road to Liverley consisted of many hills that went up and down. It just made Del's headache worse. To top it all off, he felt nauseous too. He really regretted having that drinking competition with David. He bet that David was laughing his ass off inside of the carriage now.
Del was still holding his MG-42 while on the back of the horse. Even if it was heavy, it would be better to carry that instead of the Kar98 since the rate of fire could compensate for the lack of accuracy of the MG-42.
So far, there was nothing suspicious in the vicinity. No bandits had tried to ambush them so far. Del hoped that it stayed like that until he reached Liverley. However, if even Harold and David were wearing armor, Del doubted that nothing would happen.
Cole was looking at Del, feeling annoyed by his looking left and right, "Yo, bro, why are you so paranoid?"
It was indeed true that Del kept aiming down the sights of his MG-42, but it was a necessity, "I don't want to be caught with my pants down, Cole." Del continued aiming his MG-42.
Cole just shrugged, "Alright, I understand. Anyway, I'm here to protect you so you don't have to worry at all."

Del nodded, "Thanks Cole, but I'm afraid that your protection without my effort won't keep us both alive."
Cole just laughed back, "I have my arsenal of spells now," He pointed his hand at his book at his belt.
"Ah yes, I see. To be honest, my headache is really killing me," Del kept holding his head.
"Look around you," Cole showed the environment around, "There's really no ambush point in here so why don't you relax?"
"Yeah, I do agree with that," Del nodded.
Del lowered the weapon from his shoulder. What Cole said was true. There was simply no ambush spot in the area. Maybe it would be a great idea to take a deep breath. Del was still afraid of being murdered even though he had access to overpowered weapons like MG-42. Well, unless one of Cole's "associates" decided to make another unexpected "visit", Del wouldn't have to be afraid.
As they continued their journey to Liverley, they noticed something was blocking the road. There was a carriage blocking the road and there was no horse attached to that carriage. Pushing it out wasn't an option, but Del felt something was suspicious.
Del lifted his MG-42 and aimed it at the carriage, "David, I request permission to shoot that carriage?" Del asked.
David looked at him, he glared at Del and shouted a warning, "Are you crazy? What if that thing carries a noble? Do you want bounty hunters to come after you?"
Cole interrupted, "Why don't one of you check on it?"
Howard glared at Cole, "Are you insulting us, demon?"
Del gave a pat on Cole's shoulder, "Let me do the talking, ok?"
Cole replied with a nod.
"You two are armored, why don't you two check it out?" Del asked.
"Why should we?" Harold asked.
"Because you're armored, if I go check it out, I'll surely be dead since I'm a marksman," Del gave his excuse.
Harold sighed, "Fine, I'll do it you pussy."
Del just smiled. He didn't bother to listen to Harold's insult. If he volunteered to be the meat shield, it was more than enough for him. Del didn't like the guy in the first place. If he somehow died on this ambush, he would get more payment.

More gold equaled better equipment after all. Better equipment meant that he would be able to get more gold and the cycle continued. Living lavishly was his dream after all. Maybe, beating the heroes would actually be feasible.
Harold disembarked from his horse. The loud metal noise came from him each time he moved his body. He unsheathed his sword as he approached that carriage. His sword emitted a reddish aura. "Del, look at his sword, I think that soul is infused with a spirit."
Del gave Cole a confused look, "Spirit infused weaponry?"
Cole nodded, "Yup, when you attach a certain magical gadget to your weapon. A spirit can reside inside of it."
"I see," Del nodded.
He thought for a moment about Cole's suggestion. If he attached a fire spirit, it would turn his weapon to fire incendiary round, wouldn't it? If he got back home, Del wanted to test that theory out with the help of Cole.
From afar, Harold was approaching that carriage slowly. However, as he approached that carriage, he suddenly ran away from that carriage. He ran, fearing for something. Del wasn't sure what was it, but if it could make a heavily armored man ran, it must be very dangerous.
Del disembarked from the horse with his MG-42 in his hands. He wasn't sure what he was facing, but it was better to remain vigilant. Running wasn't an option either. Harold didn't command David to turn around.
Del ran in Harold's direction, "Calm down! What's wrong ahead?" Del held his body tightly and shook him up, "Get a hold of yourself!!!"
"There's a black wolf!"
Del just scratched his head, "An ordinary wolf?"
"No! This is a necromantic wolf!" Harold shouted.
Del became more confused, "What the hell is a necromantic wolf?"
"JUST RUN!!!"
Harold just ran away, abandoning both his carriage and the others. The carriage started turning around and the wolf showed up. Behind the carriage that was blocking the road, a grey wolf appeared. The wolf was as tall as half of the carriage. Its fangs were dripping blood.
"COLE! ENGAGE THE TARGET!" Del shouted.
Col disembarked from his horse and unsheathed his sword. He held his sword in one hand and held a book on the other. "[Magical Program: Masking Soul Presence], Del, be careful, this wolf can sense your soul. You're lucky that you have me on your side."
Del laid down on the ground and aimed his MG-42 at the wolf. However, the moment Del aimed his MG in the direction of that wolf, the wolf just disappeared without a trace. The wolf turned invisible.
Del looked left and right, "Where the fuck does he go?"
Cole placed his ear on the ground and then he whispered, "If this is a necromantic wolf, it has the ability to turn invisible and cast a magical spell. Keep your ears open," he then looked in the right direction, "RIGHT SIDE!"
Del stood up and aimed his MG-42 at the right side but there was nothing, "WHAT? I DON'T SEE ANYTHING!"
Suddenly, something clawed Del's face. Del jumped backward with him MG-42 in his hands. The damage wasn't too deep, but blood started dripping from Del's cheek. Three red scratches were dripping with blood on his cheek.
The wolf just appeared in the place where Del was standing. A fireball started forming in front of that Wolf's face. Cole jumped in front of Del and he readied his sword. "[Magical Program: Explosion]!"
A small explosion appeared in front of that Wolf's pace. The fireball dissipated into thin air. Cole jumped forward and slashed his sword at that wolf. The wolf growled in pain as the sword slashed its legs.
Cole jumped backward, "DEL! ATTACK HIM!"
"Right, get some!" Del aimed his MG-42 and pulled the trigger.
7.92 Mauser bullets started flying towards the direction of that wolf. That wolf turned invisible, but the howl of pain could be heard from an unknown direction. For Del, fighting a wolf was one thing, but fighting an invisible wolf was something else.
To make matters worse, the carriage that was carrying Del's stuff had run away towards the direction of Liverley. Harold seemed to be gone as well. "Well, guess who is the pussy now, Harold!"
"Del, stay vigilant, the wolf can be anywhere," Cole placed his ear on the ground again.
"Right," Del looked left and right.
"DEL, WATCH OUT!"
