《Modern Weapon Summoning System》Chapter 26 - MG42 Testing Time

Keeping an eye on the road wasn't easy when the soft breeze of grassland air was hitting right on Del's face. It felt soothing and comforting. Del was sitting in front of the carriage alongside David. He held his MG-42 in his hands while making sure that he didn't get ambushed all of a sudden.
Thinking about it, there was no reason for the bandit to ambush a group of adventurers since it was very risky. Unlike a group of merchants escorted by adventurers, adventurers tended to fight back and they usually carried a small amount of cash which basically made attacking them useless.
"Del, c'mon, relax for a bit, it's not like anyone will ambush you," David patted Del's back.
"I think I have been ambushed in this road more than once. Well, it's kinda nostalgic for both Cole and me," Del said.
"Why?"
"We met here," Del said.
"Oh, this is the place where you met your slave?" David asked.
Del sighed, "Yeah, my slave, but I see him as a friend."
"Damn, kid, you must be so desperate that you call a demon your friend," David said.
Del laughed, "Hahaha, perhaps?"
"Still, I'm quite surprised that a low-leveled adventurer like you can keep a demon for a long time while still being alive," David said.
"Why do you say that?" Del asked.
"Demon tends to escape from its owner, sometimes, even killing the owner on its process. You two might have a special relationship, but well, who knows?" David shrugged.
"Yeah, who knows," Del said.
After that conversation, everything went quiet. Lynia and Lizbeth were sleeping in the back while Harold was reading a textbook about something. Cole was looking out of the carriage, just like Del. It looked like the journey would be very smooth.
Still, Del wondered about the security details at the bandits headquarter. To be entirely honest, it was rather risky just to send six adventurers into a dangerous area like that. Del was more than aware of what the bandits were capable of.
Although they weren't as dangerous as bounty hunters, they were still more dangerous than some monsters such as slimes or any low-ranked adventurers. In group, they were practically one of the most common dangerous threats.
"David, what's the security would be like in the HQ?" Del asked.

"Let's see. As far as I know, there will be at least ten bandits. I don't know the details, but taking them down will be very easy," David said.
"Are you sure you aren't underestimating them?" Del asked.
David laughed, "Hahaha, trust me, I've been exterminating headquarter since a few years ago. I'm more than experienced enough to deal with that kind of threat," David said.
"I see," Del nodded.
Suddenly, Cole looked uneasy. It looked as if he looked at something that was troubling him. The only time Cole had that kind of face was when he was laying down on the ground with a big wound on his body.
Del asked, "Is there something bothering you?"
"Yes, look in your right direction," Cole said.
Del looked in the right direction. It was a dark blue carriage with a somewhat familiar emblem on it. Del remembered seeing that carriage before. Why would the driver drive the carriage into the grassland anyway?
A lot of people were surrounding the carriage. There was something familiar about it, but Del couldn't figure what was it. It was better to ask Cole.
"Yeah, I see a carriage, what's the matter?" Del asked.
"That's the carriage that we escorted yesterday, isn't it?" Cole asked.
Del just snapped. It was Lize's carriage. Looking at it, bounty hunters were coming after her again. This time, there were more of them. Luckily, Del also had a new weapon to test at those crowds of bounty hunters.
"David, can I kill those crowds of bounty hunters?" Del asked.
"Are you crazy? Hell no, if you want to do that, go ahead, but I'll leave you here," David said.
"C'mon, wait here, I've been through this kind of situation before. I'll meet you in Alder if that's the case," Del said.
"Fine, but I won't pay you for today, is that ok with you?" David asked.
"Sure, but wait for me in the guild office, if I don't find you, I'll put a bounty for taking away my stuff, got it?" Del threatened.
"Alright, it's not like we are not going to stop in Alder anyway," David said.
Del got to the back of the carriage and picked up his rifle. He might need it for a more accurate shot. Del walked away from the carriage with Cole. The carriage started moving away from them and Del laid himself down on the ground. Del observed the situation.

Six carriages filled with bounty hunters were surrounding Lize's carriage. Maybe around ten bounty hunters were trying to break the carriage to force Lize out. Robert would have died at this point so there was no point in searching for him.
He pulled a drum mag out of the tactical rig and attached it to the side of the MG-42. He asked Pidma how to operate the gun. It was the first time he ever operated a machine gun and he would like to know it from Pidma.
"Pidma, how to use an MG-42?" Del asked.
[First, pull the charging handle on the right side. Pull it backward, hard, then pull it forward. Open the latch on top of the machine gun and make sure that the bullet is loaded into the right place]
Del pulled the handle on the right side backward and he pulled it forward. He opened the top latch of the machine gun and put the bullet inside of the machine gun. He closed the top latch of the machine gun.
[You can fire the gun now]
Del pulled the trigger.
Six bullets flew in the direction of that carriage in just one trigger pull. The bullets killed three people at once. The bounty hunters were looking in their direction. Some were angry, most were fearing for their lives.
"Del, should I come to them?" Cole unsheathed his sword.
"No need, my MG-42 will take care of them," Del said.
Del continued pulling the trigger of his MG-42. Bullets were raining to the enemies. Most of them were running without any direction, fearing for the thing that could kill them in one hit. The heavily armored bounty hunters fell to the ground just from a single burst from the MG-42.
One of the bounty hunters looked at Cole, "THAT'S HIM. THAT'S THE DANGEROUS DEMON!"
"THAT DEMON IS BACK?" The bounty hunter shouted back.
Del took a bit of time just for the sake of hearing them. After that, he just turned the whole grassland into Omaha Beach. He continued spraying his machine gun accurately at the enemies that were attacking the carriage.
Bodies started falling to the ground one by one. The mages were running in panic as they couldn't find where Del was hiding. All they could find was Cole, a demon. Attacking a demon was considered unwise unless the attacker was skillful enough to deal with it.
"FIRE AN ARROW BARRAGE!" One of the bounty hunters shouted.
Del looked around for anyone that carried a bow. Del aimed his MG-42 in the direction of anyone in his vicinity that carried a bow. Del pulled the trigger of his MG-42 again and the gun started firing 7.92 Mauser in the direction of his enemy.
"OVER THERE! ATTACK THE DEMON!" One of the mages pointed his hand at Cole who didn't even do anything.
Cole unsheathed his sword, "Should I go there now?"
"No, not now," Del said.
The armored enemies started to regroup. "PROTECT THE MAGES! EVERYONE, CHARGE!"
The bounty hunters that were wearing armor started regrouping. They began to run to Cole. They thought that Cole was the main attacker since Del was pretty much hidden in the grass. Del threw away the empty magazine.
"Del, I think I really should go there," Cole volunteered.
Del loaded a fresh new magazine into his MG-42, "They just make things easier for me to be honest."
Charging at a machine gun would be their dumbest idea. Del pulled the trigger of his MG-42 and the bodies of the heavily armored enemies fell to the ground. Even the most heavily armored one just fell to the ground the moment a 7.92x57 Mauser round hit them in the chest.
Del continued pulling the trigger. After all of the armored enemies fell to the ground, he stood up from the ground and aimed in the direction of the mage. He finished them with a burst from his MG-42. All of the mages fell to the ground in one sweep.
"Cole, you move to the carriage first, I'll follow you from the back," Del said as he moved towards Lize's carriage.
Although the main priority was getting Lize to safety, Del was more interested in the number of gold that they could plunder from the dead bodies of the bounty hunters.. Del would bet that he would get more than yesterday.

Cornerstone (rough draft)
When a call goes out into the universe,a young man, down on his luck, decides to answer. Ripped from his old life and even his body, Jack Hearth must now decide what needs to be done to protect those he has claimed as his own. Not all is as it seems though. Those in power do not approve of his quest and will seek to bring ruin to his efforts. This is my very first work, so I ask for understanding should I make a mistake. This story is not on of those stories where the MC gains power and immediately decides to use it for violence. While those types of stories are fun, this isn't one of those. I will average betweern 1k-2k words per chapter for the foreseeable future. Please leave a comment below to let me know how I am doing. Rebirth, but not quite.
A boy is born in a fantasy world with knowledge of modern earth, however he does not have personal memories of living or dying before. Good news is he was born in militaristic branch of the royal family and the variety of forms and uses of magic in this world are great fun, bad news is with status come expectations. Follow him as he makes his place in the world all the while escaping boredom with all his might. This is a story without a big baddie trying to destroy the world, without gods choosing heroes to give powers to and without systems that determine what you can and can't do. This is my first fiction and i'm open to suggestions. I plan on using a few cliches while putting my own spin on things, if i write something that feels too much like every other fictions, please say so.
