《Return of the Frozen Player》Chapter 58: The Queen’s Classroom (1)

After discussing the details of tomorrow’s press conference with Deok-gu, Seo Jun-ho went back to his apartment on the 77th floor. He grabbed a can of beer from the fridge and a snack before lying down on his sofa.
“Do you not need to eat?” He asked the Frost Queen, glancing at her.
“I am a spirit. Unlike humans, we are higher beings that do not require sustenance,” she boasted.
“Really? Then I guess you don’t have to spend money on those things.” He took a long swig of beer and started to ask about the things he’d been wondering about.
“Tell me everything you know about the Dimensional Elevator.” Seo Jun-ho intended to find out all he could about the cause of this horrible game from his former enemy.
“I do not know anything,” she said curtly, shaking her head.
“Hey, don’t be difficult…”
“I really do not. I swear on my own being.”
An Oath of Existence…
Seo Jun-ho’s eyebrows furrowed. “Are you kidding me? You were a Floor Master. How do you not know anything?”
“Once I forfeited the role, I lost all memories regarding it.”
“Your memories were erased?”
“I remember knowing certain things, but my mind goes blank when I try to call upon those memories.”
“Mm. That’s a waste.” It would’ve been nice if she knew why the world changed or had information on the other floors.
The System is more thorough than I thought. Who knew that it would go so far as to erase her memories. Of course, it had already done the impossible by connecting Earth to other dimensions. It could probably erase memories with the flick of a wrist.
Seo Jun-ho drained the last of his beer and tried to ease his frustration.
“Do not be so disappointed. Though the memories you desire have disappeared, my intelligence is so great that it is known in other lands. It will be helpful in the days to come.”
“I sure hope so. Oh, and I heard that spirits don’t use the magic of their contractors. Is that true?”
“You speak the obvious.”
“Then how the heck do you use your powers? I don’t even sense any magic from you.”
“Do you really not know?” The Frost Queen looked at him like he was being absurd. “Contractor, do you really not feel anything when I use my powers?”
“Not really?”
“Haa, you really are quite insensitive…” She shook her head. “When a spirit draws power from their contractor, it is from their mental strength.”
“What if I’m mentally drained?”

“Then I am unable to use the same amount of power as usual. If your mental state is extremely weakened, the contract may be dissolved.”
“I see… There’s a penalty after all.” It turned out that spirits weren’t as all-powerful as he’d thought.
Well, if they were able to use that much power without a cost, they would practically be gods.
Most of his questions had been answered, but Seo Jun-ho felt like his homework had increased in number.
“Then the things you showed me before used up my mental strength?”
“Of course. You will have to practice a lot before using it in a real battle.”
“Practice… Sounds fun.” He’d been looking forward to doing some special training with his new skills. “Look forward to it. You’ll see why people call me a tough cookie.”
“Do not be so hasty. No matter how extraordinary of a human you are, it will take at least a month.”
A month? The Frost Queen was underestimating him. He grinned.
Two weeks.
He’ll change her mind within that time.

The click of heels echoed across the hall on the 77th floor of the Player Association headquarters. Cha Si-eun walked past the art on display and knocked on the door.
– “The door’s open.”
Cha Si-eun entered and looked around the room.
Whenever I come here, I feel like it would be embarrassing for me to live here. Not only would it be hard to clean, it was hard to get to and had an unnecessary number of rooms. She suppressed her thoughts and walked over to Seo Jun-ho’s bedroom.
“You’re here?”
The door was open, and Seo Jun-ho was standing in front of a full-length mirror. Cha Si-eun was shocked when she saw him. “…Yes.”
He wore his pajamas last time. She’d brought a suit for this very reason, but she saw that it didn’t matter.
“You’re not wearing pajamas today.”
“It’s only fun when you do it once.”
Seo Jun-ho looked like a model or actor in his light-blue suit. His hair was slicked to the side, and it made him look much more alive.
When did his body get so good? She blinked. When she’d first met him, he was concerningly skinny, but now, his muscles were visible and well-defined.
“I’m done getting ready. What do you think?”
“Hm.” She spun him around, then gave two thumbs up. “Perfect.”

This was the second time Seo Jun-ho was having a press conference in Korea. The last one had been a small event and they’d barely been able to accept one hundred people, but it was different this time; it was a large-scale conference with five hundred people.

The doors finally opened.
“Wow, look at all these people.”
“There are some big leagues here too.”
“Well, it’s Seo Jun-ho after all. You can’t exactly compare him to other rookies. He’s too big.”
“Damn. The editor-in-chief for the Players magazine is here.”
“And that’s the BBC… They already got the scoop from him two days ago, but they’re here again.”
The press conference hadn’t even started yet, but the room was filled with flashing cameras and the sound of typing. An entire article could be written just about the different people and groups that were attending.
“Ha, he really is something else. The conference three months ago wasn’t like this.”
“What?! You went to Seo Jun-ho’s first press conference?”
“My department head sent me to write something up… But when I saw Seo Jun-ho, I felt it instantly.”
“Felt what?”
At some point, other reporters had started to gather around them. The reporter noticed this and cleared their throat before speaking.
“He was wearing pajamas, slippers, and his hair was a rat’s nest. At first, I thought he was just some lunatic, but I was wrong.” They pointed two fingers at their eyes. “The look in his eyes. He was yawning and all, but the piercing look he had was unforgettable.”
“Really? He just looked tired in the pictures.”
“No. It was a vigor that you could only feel in person. Like with Kim Woo-joong or Shin Sung-hyun.”
“Ahh.” They understood. Even when Shin Sung-hyun or Kim Woo-joong were just sitting around, they had a powerful presence.
“So I’ve personally been looking forward to this a lot.” The reporter adjusted their glasses. “I won’t be surprised if Seo Jun-ho announces that he’s going to a 1-star Gate.”
“What? Nah, that’s too much.” Someone waved him off. “Even if he’s a super rookie, he’s still a rookie—a newbie.”
“He only debuted three months ago. If he goes in alone, that’s suicide.”
“I’m just saying,” the reporter laughed, embarrassed.
“I know what you’re saying, but there’s no way he’ll say that if he’s sane.”
* * *
“Hey, it’s almost time,” Seo Jun-ho muttered. He was sitting in the waiting room, snacking on crackers. Deok-gu looked at him in amazement.
“You really… Aren’t you nervous?”
“Not really? It’s not like it’s my first time,” Seo Jun-ho said, still eating. “We’re announcing two things today, right?”
“Yes. We’ll do as we discussed last night.” Shim Deok-gu gulped and adjusted his tie. “Let’s go.”
Cha Si-eun escorted the two of them out. As they entered the conference room, they were covered in flashing lights. Seo Jun-ho casually took a seat.
“The press conference will now begin and last for forty minutes.”
Unlike last time, he wasn’t taking questions from reporters who raised their hands. Reporters had signed up beforehand on a first-come, first-served basis. Most of them were ones the Association had expected. A question he’d been waiting for came up.
“Will you be going to the Cave of Trials?” Seo Jun-ho quickly grabbed the mic.
“Of course. I’m trying to set a date.”
“Ooh…!”
“Yeah. It’s a rite of passage for all new players.”
“You can only go there once in your life. It’s a waste if you miss it.”
The reporters nodded in understanding and typed on their keyboards. They’d found something good.
The Cave of Trials was a Gate in the alpine regions of Tibet. Its rules were different from other Gates.
It’s a Gate that can’t be cleared, and you can leave it even if it isn’t.
It had first appeared when the world became like a game and had been around for close to thirty years.
“I’m looking forward to how much player Seo Jun-ho will grow after going to the Cave of Trials.”
“Are you thinking that you’ll at least reach the 5th level?”
“I dunno. We’ll have to see when I get there.”
The Cave of Trials gave the player a choice to ‘go’ or ‘stop’ whenever they cleared a level. They could leave the Gate if they were satisfied with their rewards, or they could proceed to the next level for a chance at a better reward with the risk of losing everything.
I got to the 9th level last time. He’d been level 30 at the time and barely survived. Still, the things he won had been a huge help to his journey as a player.
“Then, have you thought about what Gate you’ll be going to after the Cave of Trials?”
“Of course,” Seo Jun-ho nodded without hesitation.
All eyes were on him. The reporters positioned their hands on their hologram keyboards to type down what he was about to say.
“I will be going to the Winter Castle,” he said shortly.
With those two words, the bustling conference room fell silent.
“……”
“……”
The reporters couldn’t even type. They weren’t sure if they’d heard him right, even though there was only one Gate in the world called the Winter Castle. It was one of three Uncleared Gates in the world whose Difficulty was labeled as ‘Brutal’.
“…The Gate in Antarctica.”
Twenty-five years after the Frost Queen had been defeated, the people had experienced the horrors of Antarctica once more through the 1-star Gate.

Grey Worlds
A mysterious incident occurred on a otherwise normal science centered world where all of the children from the age range of eight to sixteen suddenly vanished. “Where have their kids gone and will they ever return?” The now childless parents never got to really ask that question, because a strange new element replaced their lost children. This element slowly mutated the various animals that they once ruled over with their technology to the point that they were immune to their modern weaponry. The barren land of savages on a continent far away from theirs also had their children taken, but they easily mutated just like the beasts and only grew stronger thanks to the incident. A revolution of animals eventually took place after the mutations started to cause the animals to understand just how badly the humans ruined their lives and planet. Humans were the slowest to figure out how to use this strange new element to evolve, while their opponents were evolving and growing stronger by the day they couldn’t even surpass their modern technology. When humanity was on the brink of extinction a long forgotten event finally ended and their children finally started to return from the various worlds they were summoned to! It turns out that the mysterious new element that they didn’t know what to call was mana and that it’s everywhere in some fantasy planets. The children brought back a increase in technology and techniques to grow stronger with, which caused the humans to finally be able to build safe havens for their race. They grew stronger and started to finally adapt to their brand new environment. This is the story of a orphan who was taken away from his world, before he could gain a sense of attachment to the world. Who only has his older sister to care about and how he ends up adapting to the new world in front of him.------------------Dog notes by doggo First 'five' chapters aren't what the story is really about and is more of a prologue. The reason why some are separated into parts is because Doggo originally posted them as a entire chapter. The main setting is Ghost's actual world and not any foreign world. So this story was already posted once to another site or this site three years ago… and Dog is finally ending that three year hiatus! The explanation on why Dog was on a three year hiatus would of been written in the review section, but rrl doesn't allow self reviews. I'd have to create a alt just to self review which they obviously don't want even tho I'd not give myself any stars so its going to be here instead. The update schedule is a chapter a week till Dog get a editor and then two chapters a week till Dog gets enough money to pay for Dog’s bills. The final goal is to release a chapter every other day. Dog writes 4k word chapters so they are about twice as long as some of the other authors so every other day is actually more like once a day. ------------------- The part that was supposed to be the 'review' which Dog wont bother editing out repeat infomation since it wasn't supposed to go here in the first place. The first thing Dog will go over is what changed for the first 5 chapters, so that anyone who still remembers Dog's little novel and wants to continue from where Dog originally left off can decide whether or not to reread it. Also Dog is moving over to qidan simply because dog like the app they have. Dog won't go premium even if Qidan tells dog to and will simply move back to royalroad or create a blog. The things that changed over the years are mainly two important things. The first is that Dog changed the first person point of view to a third person, because Dog read a really bad first person novel and it reminded dog of dogs own novel. Dog also changed the thoughts of the character to be - - instead of italics. Finally dog changed chapter 3 completely to make the mc not seem like a homicidal maniac and introduced a important character in chapter 3.What happened to do in the three years that dog was away? Was dog at college and now needs money to eat? Was dog off in space after successfully becoming a astronaut and has now returned home with a completed novel or two? The answer is actually quite plain dog graduated from highschool and was supposed to only spend a year at dogs owners house to choose what major dog wanted to go to college for.Dog didn't do that and is still stuck with dogs owners and is sick of being a neet. Dog wants to move and buy doggy food, but dog is antisocial and doesn't want to work a simple 9 to 5 job for the rest of dogs life. Dog is a reader before dog is a author and the reason why dog got into writing was because dog wanted to write a novel without all the things dog finds annoying. Dog spent the first year reading various novels and dropping various novels. Dog is all caught up and has to much free time on dogs paws. The first year that Dog took off was the very same year that qidan came out so dog was naturally overloaded with free chapters. But now that pemium exists dog naturally has to limit the amount dog can read. Dog is addicted to reading like my very own readers and can understand your frustrations for dog disappearing for 3 years.Dog decided that dog will go back to writing 2 years ago. Dog wanted a decent stockpile incase dog has any other emergency so dog didn't post for a year but then dog decided to change the point of view which took another year.Dog has a patreon page https://www.patreon.com/mclaindog but there isn't any tiers there or goals till dog gets a editor. My final goal is to release a chapter every other day, but as long as Dog gets a editor Dog will do two free chapters a week.Dog will probably also make a kofi for anyone who just wants to send dog a tip and can't afford to donate money monthly while maybe having bonus chapters if the tip jar gets filled.

Cosanta
Attie, a young boy who has from a young age not been able to speak or utter much of any sounds, and his exploration of the world using his gift of spiritual sight as the anchor of his power. It will be slow going, but power is granted suddenly and viciously, the story will be centered around a world gradually being exposed to supernatural powers and entities and how these changes affect mankind and individual people. Multiple main characters, some with stories that intertwine and others entirely separate and distinct. Heavily character focused. --- Any critique about anything at all is greatly appreciated.
