"Hey, do you see those two women?" A short haired man with a crew cut muttered, pointing to the left wing of the government hospital.

"Shit man! Yes, I see them too! What the hell is that big thing in front of them??" Another man muttered. He had overgrown unkempt hair, but both of them seemed fairly healthy and unharmed, considering the current world situation.

The two had wandered into the hospital to search for some medicine when unexpectedly they had spotted company.

"Bro, should we go and help them?" The first one asked.

"Fuck. I honestly don't know. Can we even beat that thing?"

"Hmm… I am also not sure. But without us, I don't think they will make it." The person just finished talking when both the girls fell down, slipping on the grimy secretion on the floor.

"Fuck. That's got to hurt."

"Ye! It's too cruel to watch like this. Come let's go and help. If things get tricky, we can always run away right?"

"Are you sure? The others might not be happy if we wasted resources on random people?"

"What do you mean? Aren't they the government now? How will they be against protecting other people?" The crew cut guy said.

The guy with the unkempt hair had a weird expression on his face when he heard his friend say this, but in the end, he decided now was not the time to talk about this.

"Let's just go and help."

The two of them immediately dashed forward, their speed and agility almost as high as Lu Chen's, and something weird materialized in one of their hands.

The form of this mysterious thing was like a spear but it wasn't made out of metal or wood or any other special material. In fact, it wasn't physical at all. 

It looked like it was made of glowing water vapor. It was as if blue wisps of flames had combined together to form the shape of a long and sturdy spear.

ARGHHH!!!

The guy with the crew cut grunted and clenched his teeth tightly. He mustered as much power and strength that he possibly could.

"NOW! THROW IT!" The other one shouted and the two of them barged into the long hallway by smashing through the glass panes of the corridor that was right behind the door where Alex and Xu Meilin were currently lying face down.

The crew cut guy gripped the immaterial spear in his hand tightly and bent his knees and pulled his body back as if he was about to throw the weapon forward. 

A strong powerful aura rippled from the spear and one could tell just by looking at it that the weapon was nothing ordinary. 

If it manages to successfully impale the centipede, there was no doubt that the spear was capable of drawing blood from the beast and killing it and if not at least deal significant near lethal damage.

However, just as the crew cut guy was about to toss this all-powerful almighty spear at the centipede…

BANG!

A loud explosion resounded and every single window pane in the corridor was shattered into small pieces that flew everywhere. The two men were also thrown backward, landing on their behind.

Some glass shards and other aftermaths of the explosion fell on them, covering their exposed skin on their hands and faces with cuts and bruises.

"What the hell?"

The two men stared at the woman in front of them as if they were seeing a ghost.

One second, it looked like everything was wrong and the two girls were about to be devoured by the monstrous centipede but the next second, the massive beast was nowhere to be found?

They dusted their backs, quickly stood up, and rushed ahead to take a look when their eyes widened even further.

Fuck! The two of them gulped. They were wrong. The beast in fact was still present in the hall, only now it had disintegrated into a million pieces of flesh, goop and skin and was smeared and scattered all over the room.

The floor, the ceiling, the walls, almost every inch of the place was covered by the insides of the giant centipede, and the two women they had gone in to save, were now tiredly sitting on the floor, safe and sound.

The expression on their faces was almost as ridiculous as the one the two men were wearing as if even they couldn't believe what had just happened.

Alex coughed up a mouthful of blood and panted roughly, her chest heaving up and down. The dagger she was holding was still tightly clutched onto her hand.

"I did it? I really did it?" She repeated in a haze, looking around her in shock and confusion. 

The events of the last couple of seconds were nothing but a blur to her.

The centipede was right above her and its mouth was about to swallow her alive, probably chew her first into mashed potato before doing so. She could hear the loud sounds of its several rows of teeth grinding with each other.

It was terrifying. Even when fighting against the boas or the goblins, she had never faced something like this before.

But Alex forced herself to not get scared. There was no one else here to save them. They did not make it in time. Everything depended on her now and she only had one shot left. 

Perhaps the her of before would have given up and silently accepted her fate, but after facing so much and after having gained an ability, she just couldn't admit defeat without even trying.

Alex was not yet fluent with her new powers. She had barely used considering that she had just now gained her ability.

Whatever she had managed to grasp about her ability was from the small fight she had with the few weaker zombies a while back. She didn't have much experience in using it like Lu Chen or Qin Hua.

But she had observed them both enough to know what she needed to do. There were mainly two attacks that she was capable of executing at the moment.

One would be to send out several short bursts of flame like she did with the zombies, but Alex had a feeling that this sort of attack wouldn't be that much of use against the giant centipede with the thick hide.

The other would be to concentrate all her strength and power into one single attack. Alex thought that this kind of attack could give her a higher chance of success against a giant beast like the one she was currently fighting.

So she planned and waited for a chance to use this. Ideally, she wanted to shot this huge fire ball after successfully getting the hell out of the hall where the centipede and its juices were over flowing.

But unfortunately, they had tripped making that choice unavailable.

Both of them were splashing around on the floor and the centipede was already over them. Alex's face paled and her heart dropped. However, another idea popped into her mind at the last moment.

Just as the centipede was about to swallow her. She gripped her dagger and sent out a burst of flames directly into the beast's belly. She gritted her teeth and gave it her all, 500% of her, as this was the last chance she was going to get.

She had planned this much, but the actual outcome was something that even she hadn't expected.

Her attack had been strong enough to blast the damned beast completely out of existence!!!

Tears streamed from Alex's eyes as she let out a long sigh in relief. It was over. She had finally killed something and protected her own life with her own hands. 

It felt surreal and a warmth spread across her heart. "I did it." She again muttered with a sweet smile that was not like her usual feisty self.

However, the peace did not last long. Her body was completely drenched in the acidic grimy secretion of the centipede and her skin continued sizzling and bubbling.

Her skin was literally melting right off of her body. The adrenaline that was coursing through her slowly lessened and the pain started becoming more and more real.

Alex gritted her teeth. "Mei Mei. Are you alright?" She weakly reached out and tried to stand up, but she had already suffered a lot of injuries, not to mention her poisoned state.

So even though she tried to stand up, she still only ended up falling down plop into the gooey acid pool. Another burst of pain spread through her nerves and her eyes rolled to the back of her head.

"Dude! Shit! Let's help them." The crew cut guy hurriedly ran over to Xu Meilin and the guy with the messed up overgrown hair helped Alex out.

Both the women were barely conscious and very injured, so they didn't hesitate any longer and carried them out of the acid filled hall.
