《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 375: Fan Ling’s Family (2)

To be able to gather so many experts to serve their family and gain their loyalty… it was not an easy matter. Lin Xiao knew that if a cultivator wanted to join another family and served them, it meant that they also needed to abandon their previous identity and completely accepted their newfound identity.
It was not an easy thing to do.
After all, many people would not easily switch their surname easily. It was an identity that they didn't want to abandon if they didn't have significant reward.
"I see."
Fan Ling swaggered into the residence. The servants all bowed when they saw the young miss and naturally made way for her. In this residence, it was clear that Fan Ling was respected and would not be slighted in the slightest bit.
But she was not the only one.
"Oh, the little princess is back."
The voice of a youth attracted their attention. Lin Xiao could see a young man around 20 or so years old stood not far from them. He was tall and had long hair that was tied neatly to form a bun on his back. Smiling lightly, he gave off the image of a scholar to the people who saw him.
But of course, the four of them knew that he was a cultivator based on the aura he gave off.
"Fan Pei, what are you doing here?" Fan Ling asked with a scowl.
Fan Pei, the youth, looked at Fan Ling with an arched eyebrow. He laughed faintly. "Since you can take a break, why can't I?"
Fan Ling growled and turned to walk from the other side. However, Fan Pei swiftly moved and blocked her route.
"Fan Pei, what do you want?"
"To just leave when you see my face, is not good, isn't it?" Fan Pei let out a faint laugh. "Big Bro left you a present for when you return. Don't forget to take a look at it."

"I don't want anything from you." Fan Ling was prepared to take out her fan in order to kick Fan Pei out of the way.
Fan Pei swiftly moved to the side and waved his hand. "Don't be so feisty, Second Sister, you're only going to make things hard for your brother."
"You're not my brother," Fan Ling spat out before she walked away. Her expression was clearly dark.
Lin Xiao turned to look at Lu Jian but the latter merely shook his head while shrugging his shoulder. It was a clear indication that Lu Jian knew things would be like this but he didn't have any other way to solve it. It was personal matter inside Fan Family that he naturally couldn't get involved in.
Understanding that, Lin Xiao sighed.
The condition of Lu Family and Fan Family was the complete opposite.
Fan Ling continued to proceed inside. When she had entered the room, she quickly saw an old man walking in her direction. Her eyes lit up. "Grandpa!"
"Little Ling." Old Master Fan looked at his granddaughter and his eyes softened a bit. He spread his arms and hugged Fan Ling, who ran towards him. It has been some time since the last time he saw his treasured granddaughter. He patted her head tenderly while looking at the three youths who came with his granddaughter.
His eyes naturally recognized Lu Jian as his family had established themselves in the capital city not long ago. They naturally came to Old Master Fan to make sure that the Fan Family will not make things difficult for them.
"Old Master Fan," Lu Jian quickly cupped his hands and greeted.
"Old Master Fan," the other two quickly followed suit. Lin Yun was the most nervous one because he wanted to court Fan Ling and seeing how Old Master Fan doted on her…. he felt a bit unconfident.

"Grandpa, these are my friends from Sun Dragon Academy." Fan Ling beamed.
Old Master Fan nodded and squinted his eyes. The powerful aura of a Golden Core Stage 3 Cultivator burst forth for a split second towards the three of them.
Lu Jian broke in cold sweat and felt his legs turned weak. Lin Yun was surprised but he gritted his teeth as he didn't want to show his weak side. Only Lin Xiao felt calm as he didn't think much of the aura, but he was complaining in his mind.
'Why do these old fogeys liked to showcase their power, ah?'
'They're assessing their grandchild's friend.' Lin Hu scoffed. If Lin Xiao and the others were not deemed to be suitable for their descendant friends, they would be escorted out very soon.
Naturally, Lin Xiao's performance caught Old Master Fan's eyes the most. It was rare to see Golden Core Stage 1 capable to withstand the pressure a Golden Core Stage 3 Cultivator's pressure. He didn't give it his all but it was still rare.
"Grandpa, don't scare my friends." Fan Ling pouted. She knew that Lu Jian would faint soon if her grandfather continued to pressure them. After all, Lu Jian was still only at Foundation Establishment and naturally would not be able to withstand as long as the other two.
Old Master Fan restrained his aura and looked at his granddaughter helplessly. "Why did you return back today, Little Ling?"
"Hmm, I want to…." Fan Ling's face turned a little red. "Introduce my boyfriend?"
Her voice was so small that if Old Master Fan was not a cultivator, it would be impossible for him to hear her. He nearly chocked on the air when he heard what she said.
His sweet Little Ling… was getting a boyfriend?
Thinking of how sweet and lovely his granddaughter is, Old Master Fan felt that it was too quick for her to get a boyfriend. She was only 18 or 19 years old and she's already getting a boyfriend.
The thought of Fan Ling leaving Fan Family house caused Old Master Fan to be heartbroken.
He didn't want to let his granddaughter go!
With that, his pressure came towering towards the three youths once more. He definitely didn't want to let his granddaughter in the hand of an incompetent man!

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!

Wanting to escape that indentured servitude, Yang flees his homeland and takes up a false identity in the Galactic Empire, a hyper-stratified society where stepping out of line is punishable with imprisonment or death. Yang enrolls in the Imperial Officers’ Academy to study history, but despite his unusual and unmistakeable talent as both a tactician and a scholar, his classmates resent him for being a visible outsider. When tensions at the school boil over and several of Yang’s classmates attempt to murder him, Yang finds an unlikely ally in the top student in the class: the aloof Oskar von Reuenthal. His Pet | Leatherface X OC (16+)
"Ohhhh, who's this again?" The creep asked. The one with the chainsaw shrugged quickly, looking to his right. I felt my heart jumping out of my stomach and my adrenaline pumping. "Bubba's got a girlfriend!" The creep bounced up and down, chanting that stupid shit. "P-please..." I begged. I looked into the killer's eyes. He looked.. embarrassed? He has emotion? Is that why he's not killing me? I saw him reach out to open the lock but his brother shoved him back, grabbing the lightweight chainsaw as he did. "Either sex... or the saw, Leatherface." His brother held up a chainsaw. I let out a small scream. "Le-leather... f-face?" I gasped, trying to somehow earn more sympathy. He looked at me and nervously fiddled with his tie. Please, dear God, please.... show emotion any emotion! -Warning-SwearingSexual content Sexual tension GoreKillingBloodBad humor;)
