《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 314: Ancient Battlefield

Slash! Slash! Slash!
Flesh and blood splattered and Lin Xiao felt as if his entire body was tied down. It was so heavy for him to move as he had been fighting for such a long time that his entire body was wearing out.
He had been absorbing more and more Qi from the Spirit stones and yet the battle didn't look like it would be over anytime soon. As soon as he recovered, there were even more beasts coming at him.
They were only at rank 4, but Lin Xiao knew that he had to focus when he was fighting them because even a single mistake would lead to his deaths. Not to mention, the type of beasts varied from time to time.
Herbivores, carnivores, and even bugs. He continued to change his tactic to face them but as the result, his understanding of his sword technique deepened.
Mountain Sword!
Chilling Lake Sword, Fifth Stance!
The attack was getting even more and more precise. Despite being tired, Lin Xiao was driven by his will to survive as he continued to fight. His head was throbbing from not sleeping and yet his body continued to move.
All this time, Lin Hu was silent. There was no lake where he could appear and help Lin Xiao, so he could only stay silent and watched from within Lin Xiao's consciousness as Lin Xiao continued to stand up and fight.
Again
And again.
Right now, there was only one thought within Lin Xiao's mind.
Kill!
He had to kill the beasts that was coming in his direction over and over.
Time flowed like water and Lin Xiao hadn't slept for days. He continued to fight over and over as his body grew battered. The time to rest was less than 2 minutes and soon, it was reduced to mere minute. Lin Xiao was forced to absorb the Spirit Stone faster and faster as the resting time reduced continuously.

The restriction that was placed in his body was slowly broken down and Lin Hu noticed that Lin Xiao's body had already able to accept more of his real talent.
However, it would take him some time before he could catch up to those geniuses who had been pampered ever since they were young and had obtained the best cultivation resources in their lives.
Slash!
Lin Xiao moved forward before he felt sudden headache. Human could not not sleep for a long time. Even as cultivator, he still needed to sleep after several days because his body needed to recover. In this ancient battlefield, how did he even have time to sleep?
He didn't even know how much time had passed when he began to feel his body break down.
Stab!
Feeling the horn of the beast stabbed into his chest, Lin Xiao swung his sword in retaliation. However, his legs failed to keep him standing and the next thing Lin Xiao knew was that the horde had already stomped him to his death.
'Was this the end?'
Lin Xiao lost consciousness.
"Gah!"
When he regained his consciousness once more, Lin Xiao noticed that he was lying on a path with two doors beside him. Behind him was the ancient battlefield while there was nothing in front of him.
He sat in daze. "I'm still alive?"
"You should have died." Lin Hu yawned. "Forcing yourself to stay awake like that and fight madly, do you think that your body is made out of steel?"
"But…"
"The real test is simply for you to continue fighting to your limit. Look at the ancient battlefield sky."
"Hmm?"
Lin Xiao turned around and noticed the writing at the sky. When he was busy fighting, he never had the time to pay attention to the sky. He nearly vomited on the ground when he saw those sentences.

"Body Training Cultivator: Survive for half a day
Foundation Establishment Cultivator: Survive for a day
Golden Core Stage 1 Cultivator: Survive for three days.
Golden Core Stage 2 Cultivator: Survive for five days
Golden Core Stage 3 Cultivator: Survive for seven days."
Lin Xiao's face turned dark. He naturally didn't count the time he spent inside because he was too busy fighting. "That… how much time did I spend inside?"
"Four days." Lin Hu pointed at the sentence that was written on the ground, right behind Lin Xiao.
Lin Xiao also lowered his eyes.
'Lin Xiao, Foundation Establishment Cultivator, Survive for 4 days, 1 hour, 36 minutes, and 3 seconds.'
"That means I'm great?"
"Yeah, yeah, but you nearly died. Thankfully the reward is a treasure that can nourish your mind." Lin Hu Jeered.
Lin Xiao felt a bit awkward. It was then he reacted to Lin Hu's words. "Wait, there are treasure that can nourish my mind?"
"Yes, mental state is important in later stage of cultivation and for the current you, it'll help you to be able to face dangerous situation calmly and also to be able to assess the situation as it is. At the same time, high mental ability meant that you can understand more technique faster."
Hearing that, Lin Xiao was astounded. It was then he recalled that he had been able to learn Moon Evasion just based on observation.
"Was that also because of my mental ability?"
"Yes, your mental power is higher than normal people, which allow you to steal other people's technique if you pay more attention to them." Lin Hu passed a sidelong glance to Lin Xiao. "If the current you try to watch that brat perform Moon Evasion, you will need less time to master it now."
"Awesome!" Lin Xiao was surprised and delighted. He had to admit that fighting in such situation had forced him to stay alert most of the time and it was hard. Yet, the reward was also very satisfying!
Though, Lin Xiao didn't want to experience death for the second time.
It was already enough that he died once in this Ancient Battlefield because if he died for real in real world, he would not be able to resurrect himself.

Sorcery in Boston
The timid daughter of some of the greatest spellcasters ever to have lived has found herself in another world, courtesy of magic gone awry. In Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1935, she finds some kind souls in a hard era. In the heart of the Great Depression, as war looms around the corner, she seeks to find her place, and must come to terms with both who she is and what she truly desires. Author's Notes: Release Note: I recently realized what the hold up is. My current mental state is not compatible with the planned ending. If I wrote the ending according to what currently feels right, it will be a wretched, cruel ending that feels monstrously unfair and invalidates the work of the various characters... because that's how my life feels at the moment. The planned ending is coming out hollow and awkward, no matter how I write it, and so I've been bashing my head. I will finish it, once I manage to either brute force something decent out, or once my head gets screwed on straight. Audience: This story is not for young children - it contains some profanity, sexual content, violence, gore, and significant adult themes. Most of these are handled delicately enough not to upset teens or adults (hopefully), hence the lack of relevant tags, but it is nonetheless unsuitable for youth. It's fairly slow paced, and focused on the development of very human, very flawed individuals. Length / Completion Estimates: The outline currently involves two books. Book 1 is expected to be done with Chapter 43. It'll probably be completely finished by sometime in March of this year. I expect to move on to the far-more-lighthearted Of Gods and Dungeons (currently in progress / on hiatus). Afterwards, I may decide to redo Book 1, or write Book 2, or actually start sharing the story most dear to me, that I've been working on for several years now. Draft 1: Please be aware that this is first draft material. I do intend to come back to do a second draft after the story is complete. If anyone notices any issues whatsoever with the story, please let me know (pm, etc) so that I can improve the second draft. Writer's Pledge: I've taken the Writer's Pledge, meaning I'm commiting to completing this story. I'm a proud member of WriTE, a group dedicated to finishing stories. It will be done! Behind the Scenes notes: This picture was commissioned from an inked artist by the name of DanP. Up until the time of the protagonist's arrival, history has proceeded as before. Some places and characters have been borrowed from wikipedia entries of interesting figures from the time. I will make note in the chapter comments when such things come up. Naturally, I've taken a great deal of liberty with them. In interest of respecting individuals, I've either attempted to portray them as accurately as possible, or modified them sufficiently enough that they're simply an inspiration, instead of a real portrayal. I've attempted to be as accurate to the era as possible, but I'm not a historian. If you're aware of inaccuracies, please, bring them to my attention so that I can correct them.
