《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 211: Hiding Strength

Tep!
Seeing the two of them entered the stairs without hesitation, Lin Yun sighed and signaled Han Jiang to help him keep looked out at the others. Their current task was to make sure that there would be no one who passed this place.
The illusion that Lin Xiao saw was completely different from before. However, he chose to break it very quickly because there was no use of him to stay here for long. He found himself back in the stairs and stepped forward, encountering more illusion at the same time.
First step, second step, third step…
Upon seeing Lin Xiao stopped at the fourth step then jumped back with sweat on his forehead, Lin Yun and Han Jiang were both stunned.
"Brother, you're simply amazing."
"How… how's that possible?" Han Jiang was filled with disbelief. Back then, even the second steps and the third already made the people amazed but Lin Xiao… reached the fourth?
Lin Xiao looked at the stairs and simply smiled. For someone like him who had lived a harsh life ever since youth, what could help him to survive was simply his will. After all, facing powerful people who wanted to aim for his life and bullied him ever since he was young just because he was an orphan who had no one to back him up.
"Each steps represent different stage. If I'm not wrong, it's like this:
1. Body Training Stage
2-3. Foundation Establishment
4-5. Golden Core Stage 1
6-8. Golden Core Stage 2
9-10. Golden Core Stage 3."
Han Jiang had learned about the stairs from the books and naturally understood that the normal people who were only at Body Training Stage could only ever hope of passing the first stage. But right now, in front of him, Lin Xiao had proved that he had the mental capability similar to Golden Core Stage Cultivator.

Well, not yet since Lin Xiao failed at the steps but close.
Lin Xiao ignored the amazed look on Han Jiang's face and then turned to look at Princess Lan Yi Hua. She was still walking forward and now had reached the fifth stage. Her eyes were filled with determination and fighting spirit. Even if she was weak, she had a strong heart that was capable to withstand many adversities.
Mocked since young and always being compared to her talented sister, Princess Lan Yi Hua had always known that she was less talented. But so what? She would be the one to decide her own fate and never let others determine what kind of future she had. That was her oath to herself.
Step!
Walking forward, Princess Lan Yi Hua stopped at the seventh steps before she was thrown out. There was faint glint on her eyes. However, after she had closed her eyes for a moment, it had disappeared.
Han Jiang was utterly speechless. If he was shocked because of Lin Xiao's result, he was already feeling shocked senseless because of Princess Lan Yi Hua's result. There was no clear method to train their heart and also their mentality. To be able to reach that result… just what had they experienced in their lives?
Wenren Yu, who was planning to stay quiet all the time, did feel himself unable to speak. Their result… was simply too overwhelming,
"You guys can try too if you want," Lin Xiao said kindly, awakening them from their stupor.
"This…"
"Fine…"
The three of them took turn to try but their result was subpar. They only passed the first step and lasted for some time in the second step before they were thrown out of the stairs. It was the standard result that many other at Body Training Stage could ever achieve.

"Compared to you, it's nothing special, Brother." Lin Yun frowned.
Lin Xiao shrugged. "The mental state will represent the stage you can achieve. Unless you can reach the second step, you shouldn't make breakthrough to Foundation Establishment."
Hearing that, they all turned to look at Lin Xiao and Lan Yi Hua. Didn't it mean that if these two had enough power and also Qi, they could make their breakthrough right away without the need of fear that their mental state wouldn't be strong enough?
It's not fair!
While they feel like complaining, Lin Xiao simply laughed. He was about to continue joking around when Lin Hu warned him.
'Someone is coming.'
'Who?'
Lin Xiao glanced in one direction and saw a figure walking in. His eyes widened when the man finally came close. "Elder Wang!"
The man, Wang Jun, was looking at Lin Xiao with complex emotion. Upon seeing the brat was fine, he sighed in relief. "It seems that you somehow had managed to pass the test easily, brat."
"Tsk, Elder Wang, you said that you will meet us again in Long Yin Forest. But it's already in Sun Dragon Academy when you finally come out," Lin Xiao whined.
Wang Jun smiled bitterly. "It's not like I don't want to come and fulfill my promise, but I can't. There are some matters that I need to handle. By the way, congratulations for passing the first three months and officially becoming disciple in Sun Dragon Academy."
Lin Xiao grinned. "Did it mean that I can learn skills now?"
"You have already passed the Examination Grounds, right? You have three hours in the first floor and you can pick a skill from there."
"Alright."
Sweeping his glance at the other two in the group, Wang Jun's eyes landed on Princess Lan Yi Hua for a while longer. "Your Highness? How did you manage to ask Princess Lan Yi Hua to stay with a troublemaker like you?"
Troublemaker?
Princess Lan Yi Hua smiled at the nickname that Lin Xiao had. It sounded so suitable remembering how Lin Xiao had created numerous problems for the princes here.
Even Han Jiang felt like agreeing. But since he had decided to follow Lin Xiao, he decided to keep his leader's face.
Lin Xiao pursed his lips. "She's my future wife, Elder Wang!"

Journey West 5000

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.
