《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 36: Sects and Sun Kingdom

"Brother, are you sure it's fine to make enemies with Su Hei like that?" Lin Yun asked. No matter what was said, Su Hei was still someone at body training rank 8, three ranks higher than Lin Xiao.
Lin Xiao nodded. "Sooner or later, he'll make trouble for me because he didn't like me. I'll just weaken his force by making him enemy of some youngsters."
Not only him, Su Hei didn't like all youngsters who have higher talent than him. This was a fact that many of them knew. When Lin Xiao saw Su Hei's gaze, he could understand that Su Hei was jealous.
He was jealous that many of them were luckier than him and have better talent.
"But they didn't like you either."
"It doesn't really matter."
Lin Yun blinked his eyes. "Brother, your courage is truly high. I can't understand how someone like you could possibly be courageous when you're so weak."
"I'm not that weak!"
Lin Xiao pursed his lips and walked back home. His mind was still thinking about the talk before as he slowly stretched his fingers. He could faintly feel the Qi movements inside his body, so he knew that he was approaching body training rank 6.
Another reason why he challenged Su Hei was also because he wanted to pressure himself. Su Hei was the strongest cultivator in this village and if he set Su Hei as his temporary goal, he hoped that it would force him to get stronger faster and even faster.
That way, he would force himself to grow even stronger much faster.
The two siblings reached their home. The place was quiet with no sign of life as if it has been abandoned for years.
"Wenren Yu?" Lin Xiao called out.

Wenren Yu pushed the door open and nodded. "Yes?"
"Did you stay inside the house all day long?"
"If I walk out, I might alert someone who pass by because there's supposed to be no one in this place," Wenren Yu explained while scratching his head.
Hearing that, Lin Xiao was speechless. There was certainly no one from the village who would come here because no one dared to be absent when the three representatives came. Wenren Yu was too timid, ah!
Just because he was worried that there might be someone who came here, he didn't even dare to come out.
He felt a headache when thinking that it would surely be hard to take Wenren Yu out in the future to visit the city. There was a city located several days' journey from here and also the place where they usually held their test to join the sects.
"Brother, Wenren Yu, you two are so extreme," Lin Yun muttered.
"Yun, did you say something?"
"No, nothing."
Lin Xiao stretched his hand and then started to speak, "Right, there are three sects representatives coming here not long ago. They're from Yun Liu Sect, Wang Luo Sect, and also Yue Da Sect. Do you know those three sects?"
Wenren Yu's eyes narrowed. He might be just an outer disciple who focused on medicine, but he still knew some matters. "Those three are included inside the 10 small sects in Sun Kingdom."
"10?"
"There are more sects?"
Seeing the bewildered siblings, Wenren Yu was stunned. It was then he realized that these two never had the basic education regarding the kingdom and the power division in this kingdom. He smiled bitterly.
"First, you do know that we're living in Sun Kingdom, right?"

"Of course!"
"There's no way I didn't that!"
Wenren Yu nodded. "The place where we lived is at the Southern area of Sun Kingdom. In this area, Taiyi Sect was the one that's tasked to oversee other sects including the cities and villages. At the south area itself alone, there are a total of three smaller sects that's below Taiyi Sect."
"Isn't it four?" Lin Xiao asked in confusion.
"The last one is considered to be at the West because the sect's position is a bit far," Wenren Yu explained patiently.
"Oh."
"I see."
"The three sects that come here are precisely all the smaller sects under Taiyi Sect previously," Wenren Yu explained.
"Are they powerful?"
Wenren Yu's face turned a bit dark when this topic was brought up. "They're good, but they can't be compared with Taiyi Sect."
Lin Xiao and Lin Yun nodded and chose not to argue. Everyone always regarded their sect as the best. Besides, the two of them were of the same opinion since it was also their goal to enter Taiyi Sect.
"Do you plan to join their sects too?" Wenren Yu asked. He would not blame Lin Xiao if the latter did want to join the sect. After all, they were not affiliated with Taiyi Sect like him and naturally had no deep connection. Even if they wished to join other sects, there wouldn't be anyone who would dare to question their action.
"No."
"Are you sure?"
Lin Xiao nodded. "I'm not going to join those small sects. It's better to join a better sect since Taiyi Sect is no more."

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
