《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 33: Gathering (3)

Yun Liu, Wang Luo, and Yue Da.
Lin Xiao listened attentively to the introduction that the three representatives gave. He had heard of those three sects because they were three smaller sects in this area below Taiyi Sect. As far as he knew, there were only four smaller sects in this area, which meant that the elders somehow managed to invite three of them.
Why did they come here at the same time?
Was it because of power struggle, conflict, or something else?
As someone who was not well versed in politics and many others, Lin Xiao clearly didn't have any clue as to why these three sects would willingly come to this remote area. However, he still had good instinct and knew that the three representative didn't look that happy either.
They didn't come here willingly.
But they must have other reasons to come here aside from answering the elders' inquiry.
Elder Su was much smarter than Lin Xiao regarding this matter, so he obviously knew better that the three representatives were not happy. However, he would never show it on his face as he put on a flattering smile.
"Many thanks for coming here, Representative Liu, Wang Luo Sect Representative, and also Yue Da Sect Representative. This humble one would like to invite you to the main hall where we will have a small gathering together and rest. We're sure that all of you might be tired after the long journey."
Tired?
It would be a great joke if they got tired when they still looked full of vitality like that. However, Liu Gang waved his hand and accepted Elder Su's courtesy. He didn't come here to create trouble and naturally had no reason to reject the elder's good will.
"Lead the way."
"Please come this way."

The two other elders introduced themselves on the way while Elder Su remained very courteous as he led the way.
The main hall was just the term they used to the place where they usually gathered. It was actually an open area with no roof and only small podium made of wood. This was also the place when there was celebration in the village and something like that.
Right now, the three elders had already arranged for some additional tables and chair to be brought out for the three representatives. Meat and fruits were prepared lavishly on the table, which was the sign that they have been working so hard for a long time to prepare everything.
Growl~
Lin Yun looked at his brother with dark lines. He whispered, "Brother, control your stomach. It's embarrassing."
Lin Xiao scratched the back of his head and grinned sheepishly. It was not his intention to make a sound like that too, but he couldn't help it. When he saw the row of food in front of him, his stomach was the first to react and produced the sound as if it hadn't met his lover for a long time.
Luckily, they were standing at the back so the other villagers didn't pay close attention to them. If they were at the front and the three representative heard that, Lin Xiao would have been the laughing stock.
Not that he minded though.
He had already lost his face since a long time ago, so there was nothing wrong with him being a troublemaker once more.
"Please have a seat, Your Highness."
The three representatives accepted the polite yet somewhat excessive greetings from the elders and sat down. Their disciples were following behind and took a seat too while they were looking around. From their frown, it was clear that they must have come from big city and not used to the villagers' situation.

"Would you like to eat and listen to song?" Elder Xu asked as he stepped forward.
Liu Gang passed a glance to him. That one glance was more than enough for Elder Xu to stop in his track. Whatever words that he wanted to say were swallowed back into his throat.
"Just don't make us bored," the woman said while waving her hand. Her voice seemed as if the ice breaker that stopped the effect that Liu Gang gave out.
"Yes, Your Highness."
And with that, some villagers started to show performance. Some women were already prepared themselves for this day, but their movements were a bit awkward at first. The intimidating glare from the three representatives didn't help much.
The other villagers were standing behind without any intention to come closer. They didn't know what they were supposed to do.
"Brother, it's so awkward."
"True."
Even Lin Xiao couldn't bear with the intimidating glare that the three representatives gave out. It seemed as if they were displeased with the reception yet they had nowhere to vent their annoyance.
Ah, why did they even come here in the first place?
After one song, the woman raised her hand. "That's enough. We should just talk about our reason for coming here."
"Yes, yes, yes, you're right, Your Highness," Elder Su said with another fawning smile.
Liu Gang snorted. "We come here because of your letters, saying that you're willing to be part of our sect. But which sect do you actually mean?"
At this question, the three elders' smile falter. They couldn't possibly say out loudly that they sent letters to all four sects, right? It would be a face slap in the face of the other sect.
"That's…"

Lone: The Wanderer [Dropped Version (includes original draft of the rewrite's first volume)]
Nine-to-five. The daily grind. Life. Painful years of school. Working as a slave for some undeserving corporate big-wig. The monotonous life of unemployment. We all experience this in one way or another, and we can all conclude one thing: it's dull. Such a fact rings true even for the fabled Lone Immortus, a powerful nine-tailed Golden Foxkin. However, what would you do if your monotony was suddenly ground to a halt and you were thrown out of your comfort zone along with a young girl forgotten by time? Perhaps you might have done things differently, been more organised, immediately died, gained control of the world in a matter of days, but this is Lone's tale, not yours. Watching two insecure people struggle to survive and find their place in an unfamiliar land just might be enjoyable to witness. Who knows? One thing's for certain: it won't be an easy path for them to tread, and what could possibly be more entertaining than watching people endure hardships and grow? I know of at least eight gods that would answer with, 'Absolutely nothing.' I wonder, after seeing this journey from start to finish, how would you answer?
