《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 18: I Won’t Join

Su Hei furrowed his brows but as his eyes landed on Lin Xiao's basket, he felt that he was at lost for words. From the corner of his eyes, he glared at his younger brother. By now, he was certain that the only reason why they failed Lin Xiao was because of his younger brother's words.
The ability to catch fish would be rare.
But they didn't really care for fishes because normally, no one would dare to venture deep to the north. The north was the place with so many beasts roaming around and required a lot of luck to get there.
"Did you cheat?"
Lin Xiao arched his eyebrows. Why did he ask the same question to him?
"If I say no, will you believe me?"
"No."
It was impossible to get so many fishes in such a short period of time. It was not without basis that Su Han suspected Lin Xiao as many other villagers were unable to believe that Lin Xiao did succeed.
In the first place, travelling back to the village while carrying the fishes was already more than enough for them to be attacked by countless beasts. For that reason alone, this water test was considered as the most difficult and those who got this test would choose to give up and tried again after a month.
The rule here was that they could only take another test after a month.
Lin Xiao shrugged. "Since you have said that I can't possibly get so many fishes without cheating, you already have your answer. I won't waste my time here anymore."
"You don't want to join?"
"Heh, what's the use to join?"
Su Hei snorted. How arrogant! Everyone knew that travelling in the forest alone would be very dangerous. Even if they were already at body training rank 7 or 8, they would still not dare to venture alone much less when they were at body training rank 5 like Lin Xiao.

The villagers already thought of Lin Xiao as a stupid young man and nothing more.
If he wanted to die so much, no one would bother trying to stop him.
"if there's nothing else, I'll going back home now," Lin Xiao said airily. He glanced once more at Su Han, but he had no intention to beat that annoying man anymore. Just by talking here with these annoying people had wasted so much of his time.
If they didn't want him to join from the very beginning, they should have just said it.
There was no need to purposely fail him in the test.
'But my training with Wenren Yu proved to be good. I would ask him later to spar with me when his wound is healed.'
Sneeze!
Back in the hut, Wenren Yu suddenly sneezed. He looked outside the window, wondering if there was anyone who survived and remembered him just now. Or maybe they were offering prayer for him?
As Lin Xiao was about to leave the hunting squad ground, Su Hei looked at the short youth's back. "Are you going to try again next month?"
"Nope." Lin Xiao didn't stop his steps. "I won't join the hunting squad."
"How arrogant."
"Arrogant is my second name~."
Su Hei chose to ignore Lin Xiao's blatant provocation and looked at his younger brother. Their difference in age was around a decade, which meant that he was much older than Su Han. Due to that difference too, the two of them have a rather strained relationship.
"What are you trying to do, Su Han?"
"Brother, I just want to teach him a lesson!" Su Han responded. When he saw that Lin Xiao had reached the fifth stage, he knew that it wouldn't take long before Lin Xiao came to join the hunting squad.

"Teach him a lesson?" Su Hei snorted. "You better go and train. If you show disappointing performance at the sect selection later, you should know the consequences."
Su Han's body shuddered in fear at his brother's words. To be able to reach rank 6 before the age of 20 meant that he was qualified to enter the sect selection. Not to mention, his family wanted him to try breaking through to rank 7.
The higher the rank, the higher the possibility for them to be able to be selected to the sect that they wanted to join. Su Han had been in rank 6 for some time, so it was not impossible for him to reach rank 7 if he trained enough.
"Yes, Brother."
Standing up, Su Han glanced in Lin Xiao's direction. When the difference in their rank was only one, Lin Xiao would always defeat him. Because of that, Su Han knew that he had to stay two ranks above Lin Xiao if he wanted to keep his face or he would be defeated so miserably all the time.
It was not something he wanted either.
"Go."
Su Hei waved his hand. The two children's quarrel was not something new. He had his own share of competing with others back when he was still young. Those people had already joined Taiyi Sect a long time ago.
And probably had already dead by now.
'How stupid.'
Not wanting to bother anymore, Su Hei instructed the men in the hunting squad to begin moving and working. They were not allowed to dilly dallying anymore.
