《Rise of the Great Emperor 》Chapter 9: Medicine Student

It didn't take long for Lin Yun to start fire with the clothing that Wenren Yu chose to abandon. The cloth was made of expensive material, which belonged only to Taiyi Sect. After all, the special material was only produced inside the sect.
"Is this fine?" Lin Yun asked. He felt a bit bad for burning such expensive clothing.
Wenren Yu nodded. He had changed to Lin Xiao's spare clothes. While it was a bit short since Lin Xiao was a hand shorter compared to him, it was better than nothing. Dressed like this, it would be hard to see Wenren Yu as someone from a powerful sect and more like a timid village boy.
At least, that was the impression they got when they saw the other party.
Lin Xiao crossed his arms. "The village elders might have known something about this."
"Brother! Why do you think that?"
"They seem so eager to get another sect to lead the people here even though not even a day has passed ever since Taiyi Sect is reported to fall," Lin Xiao replied nonchalantly. It was a very outrageous statement, yet Lin Xiao dared to say it because he did have some suspicions.
Wenren Yu looked at Lin Xiao then lowered his eyes. "Even if they did have a hand, they're nothing more than lackeys. It's useless even if I try to talk with them."
"You want to have a talk with them?"
"Uhm…. Maybe I can try to watch them from a distance then think of a method to eavesdrop?"
Lin Xiao was speechless.
This Wenren Yu was truly someone timid. With his personality, Lin Xiao would not even think that it was strange if he chose to hide and run when his friends were in trouble. Rather than putting himself in danger, this Wenren Yu looked more like a little rabbit who was ready to hide in his hole when he had the possibility.

"Uhm… I'll leave if you're uncomfortable with me," Wenren Yu said when he saw their wary gazes.
"Sure. You're free to leave."
"Brother. You shouldn't be that straightforward," Lin Yun berated his brother. "Also please be careful when you walk around this area. There are a lot of beasts roaming around. In addition, there'll be people from another sect coming here soon, so be careful in case you stumble onto them when you're travelling."
Hearing that, Wenren Yu was stumped. Now that he thought about it, he was very far from his place. Back in the past, he used to be traveling with his master before he joined Taiyi Sect and became disciples there. Body training rank 6 was nothing in this vast world.
If he dared to venture alone in an unknown area, it was clear that he would die within a few days if he were to encounter beasts. The sect was strict back then to not allow the disciples out for long distance missions precisely for this reason.
Lin Xiao gave thumbs up to his brother. He was watching Wenren Yu, wanting to know what this young disciple could possibly do.
"Uhm, can I stay here?"
"You want to stay here?" Lin Xiao arched his eyebrows. "Don't you think it'll be too dangerous for us if someone like you stay here? Besides, we have lower martial arts than you. What are you going to do if your pursuer chases us here?"
"That's… I'll pretend to be your servant!" Wenren Yu quickly came up with an excuse.
"With no villagers ever know that."
"I….I'm shy and unwilling to meet with anyone!"
For that reason, there was no need for Wenren Yu to act. His action and real personality had already showed that he was truly a very timid person. In fact, Lin Xiao and Lin Yun would have highly doubted that he was disciple of Taiyi Sect because of his act.

Lin Yun felt that his image of Taiyi Sect would be destroyed completely because of Wenren Yu's action. He took the cup from the side. It contained the medicine that he brewed just this morning to relieve his sickness.
"What can you help me, then?" Lin Xiao pressured again.
Wenren Yu looked at Lin Xiao and opened his mouth. "Moon Grass, Spring Root, Thousand Days Flower, Daylily Leave, Red Plum Flower, Moon Dew Flower, and Five Petal Wood Root."
"What?" Lin Xiao was stunned.
On the other hand, Lin Yun nearly dropped the glass in his hand. He looked at Wenren Yu with astonishment. "How do you know it's the composition of my medicine?"
He was holding onto his medicine that he had to drink. There was only half left since he had been drinking it while Lin Xiao was talking.
Wenren Yu looked at Lin Yun. "I'm a medicine student and if it's about herbs, I can teach you a lot."
Medicine student!
Lin Xiao obviously knew that there were people who focused on different things. Cultivation path is very long and in the journey, there were many of them who have different hobbies. Learning medicine was only one of the few options available for them to choose.
It was no wonder that Wenren Yu's cultivation rank was not that high even though he was a student of Taiyi Sect. It was always a question within Lin Xiao's head but this effectively answered that.
Those who focused on some other things could be slower when it came to cultivation ranks because they were focused on learning other matters.
Lin Yun finished his medicine then looked at Wenren Yu. "In that case, do you know what kind of sickness I have?"
"That's…"
"You can guess."
Wenren Yu didn't immediately reply. He looked at Lin Yun carefully but didn't move from his position. After a while, he spoke. "It's cold at night and your body feels much weaker. You're sensitive to cold and unable to stay outside for a long time because the cold wind will make you feel chilly. Am I correct?"
"Yes." Lin Yun knew that his sickly body was strange. There was nothing wrong based on what the doctor said, so all they could do was to make sure that he ate more warm medicinal solution. It helped him to withstand the cold in winter and also lived normally albeit having to stay careful.
"Uhm, do you also feel it's hard to sleep on some nights?" Wenren Yu asked hesitantly.
Lin Yun was stunned. "That's correct."
"Then I know your sickness."
"What is it?"
"You have Yin attribute body."

Paladin
When the first derelict alien spacecraft fell to Earth, humanity took what was found in it and propelled themselves to new heights. In their new Golden Age, humanity developed technology that they had only dreamed about. The following years saw hundreds more ships crash into the planet, spurring even greater technological leaps. An unassuming spacecraft, one of the dozens that fell yearly, descended on Siberia in 2021. The world took no particular notice of it. However, this one contained something beyond the miraculous technology that had made humans so prosperous. Three years later, in a top-secret underground facility in eastern Colorado, the automated construction of an army of Paladin Mobile Infantry Suits was underway. With this new, state-of-the-art weaponry, the military would turn the tide against the alien incursion that was consuming the planet. Humanity fell before that could happen. Sam was an engineer responsible for overseeing the facility. Now alone, he lives in utter boredom and near insanity, his only company the base’s pseudo AI and an army of empty Paladins. With the world gone to hell around him, and the things that caused it still living above, he decides that he is much better off staying exactly where he is. Unfortunately for him, that is no longer an option. This is the first novel I've written. The first fifteen or so chapters are going to be a little slower. I want there to be time to get to know the characters before they start blowing stuff up. Also, though the MC will be strong relative to the world, he won't be OP, and won't win every fight. Not every fight will be physical either. Currently, I'm aiming for something like 5 fairly short chapters a week, after the introduction part is done, but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading, and please let me know if I've made mistakes!

The Programmer's Dungeon [Progression, LitRPG]
Vincent, a college student from Earth, has been transported to another world full of strange powers and fantastic monsters. Ideally, this would be the start of his journey to become a legendary hero, build an everlasting empire, and gather a personal harem. But no one said that this new world would be easy… After escaping an assassination that accidentally befell him, he was forced to become a Dungeon Master. What will an average programmer student do when he finds out that he can code the dungeon? Vanquish those savages above with his tech and savviness — along with an army of golems? “Wait, this world isn’t even medieval?!” With all the questions piling up in his head, Vincent is set to uncover all these secrets! And… conquer the world, perhaps? The hard reboot of “The Programmer’s Dungeon.” It has an almost completely different plot, cast, and storyline, so expect tons of improvement from the old one. Disclaimer: This is a softcore LitRPG story; there are stats but no levels. Also, the LitRPG element isn’t the main focus of the story itself and is more of a support. I have enabled the reader’s suggestion, and therefore, you can correct any grammar mistakes and typos you find in the story. There will definitely be some that I miss. Cheers! The cover was made by Jack0fheart, so a shout-out for him. Releasing 3 chapters per week at 12.00 GMT on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday with at least 2000+ words. To The Far Shore
Post apocalyptic Oregon Trail. The apocalypse has come and gone. And come back again, and left again... nobody really knows how often. Nothing lasts forever, but nothing is ever completely gone. Which is a shame for young Mazelton, as his family has been around a terribly long time, and made an astonishing amount of enemies. Millenia's worth. So he has to run- from mobs, cannibals, soldiers, sailors, cholera, cattle, thieving sales-monks, starvation, mechanical horrors, vengeful spirits, negotiating your own marriage, and poison of every sort. Fortunately, his not terribly nice family has trained him well in the arts of core polishing. Or as you and I might know it- turning radioactive pellets into useful tools. And weapons. Updates Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Usual defensive tags applied. The goal isn't exactly family friendly, but you have probably seen worse on network TV. After the watershed. Not full blown HBO, let's say. This is the first novel I am sharing publicly, so feedback is very much appreciated and encouraged. Act 1 of the novel is completed, but do please let me know what works, what doesn't, and what you would like to see more of. Thank you, and Enjoy!
