《V.I.R.A.L 》Chapter 127: Birth of a Hero Part 1

Monty stood in front of a shop window staring into the store watching the TVs. His gaze fixated on the news programme which was broadcasting the Montague manor incident. He saw the news of one member trying to overthrow and destroy the family only to be stopped at the last moment. For this made him slightly at ease. If the family were to be torn down, it could only be him who claims the task. However, it was who saved them, which made him swell up with rage. On TV he saw Emil, Gale and Zinnia taking the credit for the rescue. This was the final straw for Monty. He had enough of it all. Squeezing his fists even tighter he wanted to scream, scream at the top of his lungs for the world to hear. He wouldn't sit by and be made a mockery. He wanted one thing. Revenge.
"What a mighty pity, I say. To see the Montagues, fall so far from grace. To think my sister joined those losers."
Monty tilted his head, seeing a masked jester staring over his shoulder. Giving him a dull stare, he hissed with a threatening tone. "Who the fuck are you?"
Stepping back, he bowed, holding one arm up high. "You may call me Eyes Over Reality. I would very much like to help you, Monty."
"Eyes Over Reality… Aren't you that villain Crimson Dawn put away a few years back? The hell do you want?!"
EOR began rubbing his hands together, smiling. "You need not worry about the details. I was left out on good faith I'll have you know. I'm not important here. We're here for you. You were once the pride of the Montague family. The showstopper which would draw attention all across Victoria. The unstoppable Haze they called you. Even after all the hazy things you did, people still loved you but look at you now. Alone and lost with nothing but your powers and hatred keeping you going. Why did you leave the family? Was it out of embarrassment? Guilt? No, that's not it. You left because you were just too weak for your own good."
Monty began gritting his teeth before striking EOR. The illusion broke into little pieces as he appeared to Monty's right. "What does this matter to you, anyway?"
"Oh, more than you know." EOR chuckled. "Do you want to know what I see? Someone with unlimited potential. I've seen the way you fight. You pushed Alton Brantley so far to his limits you awakened a power he hasn't used in years. That takes power and Monty I see in front of me, possibly the most powerful streamer in the world. You just need the right opportunity to let that rage flourish. I, for one, offer you a partnership."
"What could you offer me?"
"Quite a lot actually. A way to harness your strength as well as unlock your untapped potential. I am offering you the chance to be more powerful than any member of team Rhapsody. All I ask in return is that you show me that power first hand when you kill Alton Brantley. What do you say? Do we have a deal?"

"You don't even have to ask twice. Alton Brantley. That boy has ruined everything… I will return that kindness with my own." Monty smirks punching the window smashing it staring at the TV showing Team Rhapsody most recent stream. "How are we going to do this?"
"Leave the heavy work to me. You just make sure your ready when the time comes you will know what to do. One last thing if you're entering the V.I.R.A.L League you will need a new streaming name. I'm up for suggestions."
"Well, if I'm going to take down that pitiful array of scums how about we rub the salt further into the wound. If they want to be called Rhapsody, I'll call myself Killer Queen. A taste of their own medicine."
EOR began giggling like a school girl clapping his hands. "Oh, this is going to be so much fun. This is what it's all about. Power vs power. It's what makes the world works. I most look forwards to this."
"Just you wait Alton. This time I will defeat you."
****
Monty began cackling holding the crown up, letting the glow blind him. "Know this Alton I am more powerful than Team Rhapsody, and this crown will ascend me to that level. That is my wish. I wish to become more powerful than any of you, scum. I will defeat Team Rhapsody and have my revenge!" A bright light radiated from the crown, which only grew with a beautiful white shine. Soon enough, everyone was blinded as the light consumed the area. As it settled the crown had vanished, and Monty was staring at his hands, smiling sinisterly. His whole body had the white glow from the dome emitting lightly. Monty turned to strike Alton only for Scarlett to pull him from his spot holding him in the air tearing the snake out and killing it. Alton feels to his knees, his movements slow and stiff as loud cracks were heard before a thin layer of ice shattered from his body, protecting him. Small flakes of snow trickled around him as the two streamers stared down Monty. "Well, that does make me feel a little better. If you were to die so easily Alton, I would take myself for more of a fool for losing to you."
"I have a bad feeling about this…" Emil whispered, joining his friends. Harmony had taken to helping Zinnia who was bleeding out from the gunfire. "What did he wish for?"
"From what it sounds like to become more powerful than any of us," Scarlett added looking conflicted. "Is that sort of wish even possible?"
Alton held his head feeling a sharp pain racing through. "It doesn't matter. I've taken down Monty before. I can do it again. This time there is three of us he doesn't stand a chance. We'll take him together."
Monty leaned back taking in his newfound power snapping at the streamers. "Teammates? Friends. To hell with all of that shit! I'll rip that pathetic false hope from each of you as I kill you one by one."

Stepping down from the pile of snow, Monty went through the ground, throwing everyone off. In that split moment of panic, Monty flew from the ground, gripping Emil by the neck and throwing him over his shoulders into the wall with incredible strength. Alton, stopping any more harm towards Emil, shot up a wall of ice blocking the two off. Monty's fixation turned to the others as Scarlett held her hand forward, holding Monty on the spot. Holding him down, her hand began shaking as somehow Monty was breaking through her grip. Scarlett was shaking as her grasp on Monty tighter, but this did little. "Impossible… How the hell is he doing this?"
Monty began marching towards them as he held his hand back, shouting. "Weak, weak, weak!" Scarlett was smacked back as she crashed into the snow. "Look at you all fall so easily. You are all weak!"
"You Goddamn lunatic… I'll make you pay for that." Alton snapped jerking his hand forward, sending off a blizzard from his body. Monty jerked back falling backwards into the ground, jolting up behind him. Responding quickly Alton spun around meeting Monty's punch as the two slammed fists serval times. Monty came out on top during this brawl as Alton was lobbed in the face staggering him which was met by another punch which knocked him onto his knees. As Monty went in for another attack, Alton lifted his head up as icicles ripped from the ground blocking each attack scratching Monty's hand just missing a more fatal attack by inches. Smashing each of the ice, it shattered to the floor targeting Monty following him latching on and freezing the streamer. Standing up, panting Alton covered his right eye struggling. "I won't let you win Monty. I won't fall to your fake strength. You're living a bloody lie!"
Monty smirked lifting his arms up, breaking through the ice his body still glowing as his eyes were burning with a fiery rage. "That's pretty rich coming from a bunch of misfits like yourself. Always going about the truth exposing the lies and bullshit in this world. Give me a fucking break. The truth is only convenient for you if it works in your favour. If the real truth is not in your favour, you cast it aside as lies. What truth is that? Clinging onto a false truth is pure weakness. I am making my own truth and now have the power to back it!"
Alton gritted his teeth going to fight only to be pulled back as rubble rippled down laying waste to the area he was once standing. Falling to the ground, he turned seeing Scarlett lying down blood dripping down her head using the last of her power to bring the rubble down. "Are you quite, alright?"
Alton stood up, patting himself down. "Yeah, I don't like this."
Getting his help Scarlett just managed to stand as she held her arm spitting blood from her mouth. "Was this bastard always this strong?"
"Nowhere near. That wish must have boosted his power. He also never had Emil's powers…"
"It's our father's power… He always had it but refused to use it after learning of me… He's backed in a corner and is willing to use anything to win." Emil coughed lying down, trying to get up.
"Stay down Emil. Scarlett and I will finish this."
"You have a plan?"
"Half a plan… I just need you to keep Monty in one place for as long as possible."
Scarlett sighed nodding. "No promises."
The rubble was thrown everywhere as Monty emerged unharmed and raring to go. Scarlett tied her hair back running in making each piece of rubble float as she leapt from each one hopping over Monty creating psychic chains which wrapped around him pinning him down. With serval chains just about keeping him at bay, Alton stood sturdy as a hailstorm engulfed him roaring around growing in power. Moving his hands away, he held on as the storm was freezing him over. With enough power behind him to finish this, he broke from his shell leaning back before blasting the storm forward. "Dead storm!"
Monty saw the attack in the corner of his eye as he broke into action lifting his arms up shattering the chains all apart from the one Scarlett had held down. Tearing it up Scarlett was propelled from her location and towards him. At the last second Monty escaped from the storm as it hit Scarlett directly. She screamed out in immense pain before collapsing shivering with no sight of it ending. Monty stood behind Alton chuckling. "Was that the best you got? I must applaud you for taking care of her for me, though. That just leaves us two." Alton was kicked to the ground as Monty pinned him down landing punch after punch on him. Alton's face was bloody and beaten as Monty howled with anger. "You don't understand how much joy this brings me! To finally have you on your knees, helpless to stop me! I am here today to prove to you Alton Brantley I am no longer weak! I am more powerful than any member of Team Rhapsody, even you! With this, my revenge will begin, and the Montagues will be no more!"
Smashing down another attack this one was stopped as Alton caught the punch crushing Monty's hand lifting him up. Alton stared on at Monty with one eye glowing yellow. Frozen flower petals rippled through the wind as Monty was knocked back. Floating to his feet, Alton wiped his mouth staring at Monty with ill intent. "Sorry to burst your bubble Montague but I'm about to crack that revenge bubble like it's nothing. You talk weakness and power… Ha, how amusing. Allow me to show you just how weak you are then."

Patchwork System
Notification (cannot be ignored): For being the first being to kill another of its own species after Sublimation, Lyam Aldren is awarded the Title of Cain’s Successor. Let all fear the Kinslayer!!! Lyam Aldren, killer for hire, was just going about his business when he suddenly received a notification from something called the System. Apparently, the entirety of Earth, its denizens and its matter were transported into the world of the System, planted in 'patches' all throughout the infinite world. The world of the Patchwork System is one of challenges, where life is cheap, power is king, and Classes and levels are a thing. In a brutal world, there is perhaps room for a killer with bloodstained hands to find his own way, free of his past. However, his Title and his inherent nature plague him, his fragmented personality laid bare to those with the eyes to see, and if he doesn't become powerful enough to defeat or escape those who would use or destroy him, he will quickly be devoured by the merciless world created by the System. Compared to my previous work, this is a more 'classic' litrpg setup, with clear (if somewhat complex) progression through levels and skill gains, with a 'system apocalypse' setup. Unlike most system apocalypse story protagonists, Lyam is neither a leader nor is he particularly interested in saving his fellow Earthlings. This is a story of a man who is both endangered and set free by the destruction of his old world, as he finds both power, new discoveries, and adventure in a place where his past matters not at all and power is the only language most speak. Later in the story, there will be harem elements, but the first volume is dedicated to Lyam's first months in the System. For those who are more interested in the Heirs of the Hooded King, I am putting it on hiatus as I rework the setting and future story developments a bit.
