《Start With Contracting Sprites》Chapter 25: Tyrant Bear

"Understood."
No, they didn't dare to not understand.
Coach Xiong was like his surname—full of a suppressive power just like a bear.
However, what was even more suppressive was a gigantic figure standing behind Coach Xiong, four to five meters tall.
A bear!
Its hair was black-brown and very thick. In front of its chest was an eye-catching bright red symbol.
Tyrant Bear!
It was Teddy Bear's final evolution.
This was also the first final evolution sprite Su Hao had seen with his own eyes!
Tyrant Bear's gigantic figure stood behind Coach Xiong, completely silent.
It was like a stand-in and spread indescribable suppression.
It was alright for students like Su Hao.
Tyrant Bear had already held back its powers. But the sprites were more sensible, and all of them trembled.
Coach Xiong looked across the four classes' students, and his look paused slightly on Gu Lingyao and Su Hao.
He had been a colleague of Gu Lingyao's father for a while, and he was relatively familiar with Gu Lingyao.
Before taking the coaching position, Coach Xiong had even gotten words from Gu Lingyao's father.
Don't be soft, train her just the way it needs to be done!
Coach Xiong didn't have much to say to that. Even if he hadn't said so, he wouldn't go soft on her.
Training under him would only see two kinds of results—either one could stand it or couldn't.
"Su Hao…"
Coach Xiong's look stayed a bit longer on Su Hao, as he was more curious about him.
He can actually improve the unique skill, Charging. And he's not from any Sprite Trainer family, nor is he the student of any sect, but just an ordinary high schooler from an ordinary family.
That's just as well. It's only interesting to train students like this.
Coach Xiong started speaking, his voice bright, "Before starting you on systemic training, I'll first demonstrate what a real sprite battle is. Is there any student who's willing to come up to demonstrate?"
The field was completely silent.
"Not Tyrant Bear, just a sprite only contracted for more than a month."
Coach Xiong made a snap.
Clippity-clop.

Clippity-clop.
Sounds of horse hooves came, and a beautiful white horse ran toward them.
The horse was still young, just the height of a child of four or five. Its whole body was snowy white, and its mane fluttered in the air. Amazingly, on the two sides of its body near the neck, grew a pair of wings the size of two palms.
"It's a Wind-Element Sprite, Little Wind Horse!"
"A very rare sprite!"
The beautiful Little Wind Horse attracted the students at once.
When the young horse stood beside the tall and strong Coach Xiong, the contrast was so big that one couldn't help but worry.
Coach Xiong touched the mane of the horse. "I'll be using this Little Wind Horse to demonstrate the battle. Any student would like to take the initiative?"
The field was still completely silent.
"Little Wind Horse will fight any five sprites among yours, is there no one braver?"
Coach Xiong tempted and provoked, but still, no student came out.
Nobody was dumb.
What about a sprite only contracted for more than a month?
How could the sprite of an elite Sprite Trainer be the same as theirs?
Nobody wanted to send their sprites to get beaten.
The form teachers felt a bit embarrassed and were about to speak, when Coach Xiong spoke first, "Since that's the case, I'll call names."
Su Hao was observing his shoes with his head bowed when he heard a very familiar name.
"Su Hao."
"Gu Lingyao."
"Li Songting."
"And… the Sprite Trainer of Little Charcoal Tortoise over there, and the student who contracted Vine Snake over there."
Many eyes looked toward him at once.
Su Hao sighed as he had to walk out of the line. His eyes looked right into two small eyes on a big, flat face.
They were brothers in misfortune.
Coach Xiong waved to let Tyrant Bear leave on its own so that the newbie sprites on the field could be more at ease.
He also looked around. "The field… It's too open here, and it's not suitable. Let's go to the woods over there.

"The woods are the most common landscape, and one type of geographical environment you all have to focus on training. Let's use this battle to demonstrate a bit on how to fight in the woods and how to make use of the landscape."
In these training woods at school, many were recently replanted tall trees. Their thick leaves blocked out sunlight, with only bits of light seeping through, dropping variegated shadows.
Coach Xiong stood still.
In front of him, Little Wind Horse lifted its hoofs and neighed. Its fighting spirit was aroused.
"Come, attack any way you want. Real fights are without restraints."
Among the five students who were called up, three boys and two girls, only Li Songting's fighting spirit blazing, as he and Kungfu Pup kept encouraging each other. All the others had a trace of sadness in their eyes due to the imminent beating.
Since they couldn't avoid it, they had to fight properly.
Coach Xiong's sprite was still young, and its spiritual force level was comparable to Silkworm Baby at best.
If their side went on as a group to beat it… They might actually stand a chance!
Su Hao took a deep breath and gave Silkworm Baby a small act-yourself look.
The five sprites spread out and stood in position.
As the long-distance attacker, Little Spring moved first, and a stream of water sprayed out from its mouth.
As compared to the time when it practiced with Silkworm Baby, Little Spring's water stream was faster, more forceful, and with a better aim.
The white water stream reached its target in a blink.
…
Outside the woods, the students of various classes surrounded in a semicircle. They looked at the fight in the woods with great interest. After all, they were not the ones getting beaten, and that made their mood immediately better.
"Among those ones, I heard Li Songting is the freak genius who got first in the evaluation test, right?"
"I heard Gu Lingyao's family background is extraordinary. The cultivation quality of Little Spring is probably among the best in our batch."
"Who are the other three? Did the coach randomly choose?"
The Sprite stream's learning environment was freer, which resulted in students not being familiar with each other. Even among classmates, many only knew the names of each other.
"The chubby one is Liu Ren. I heard his family is rich. A sprite like Little Charcoal Tortoise should be quite strong, too."
"What about the other two?"
"The Vine Snake's Sprite Trainer looks pretty cute… Cough, I mean, Vine Snake is not bad as well."
"That boy… Coach probably chose him because he's handsome."
Everyone was rendered speechless.
After looking at the woods, they realized that the face lit by bits of variegated sunlight actually, really looked a bit handsome.
Some boys were indignant. "What use is being handsome? Can handsomeness feed you? And he actually contracted a Silkworm Baby, what use is this kind of sprite apart from being cute?"
Is being cute not enough?
The girls were indignant.
Before they argued back, a boy wearing glasses said coldly, "Hmph, stupid, not observant at all. For Su Hao, Gu Lingyao, and Li Songting, the coach called their names, meaning that the coach knew them.
"Also, Su Hao's name was the first. With my observation of the coach, it's impossible for him to call someone up only because he knew them, or for other reasons. The only reason is their ability!
"Gu Lingyao and Li Songting are both pretty strong, Su Hao is probably at the same level as them.
"Back then, during the evaluation test, the sprite that came second was a Silkworm Baby. So I judge that this Silkworm Baby can't be ordinary."
He pushed the frame of his glasses, his expression firm.
The boy who got scolded felt a bit indignant.
However, in the environment of "cuteness is everything", he didn't dare to speak anymore. Thus, he simply looked into the woods.
What excellent performance can a Silkworm Baby have, even if it is relatively well cultivated?
This was also the question of the others.
Only three others, such as Chen Qi, knew that this Silkworm Baby was not just strong, but very strong.
You guys can't even imagine what Big boss Su's sprite is like~!
When looking at their ignorant classmates, a sense of superiority overwhelmed their hearts.

Earth has finally qualified... ...and participation is mandatory. A twenty-nine year old data entry clerk works together with a group of internationally diverse players to survive. Learning synergistic skills and using teamwork, can humanity achieve an upset? If they don't, their lives are forfeit. Author's note: Chapters will be anywhere from 6k to 10k in words, varying based on the plot beats instead of specific word counts. Realistic actions and teamwork will be important aspects of my story. I'm trying something a little different in writing a realism focused litRPG, hoping to capture the essence of how real people would react to their situation. People are complex and don't always get along. I don't recommend starting the series expecting wish fulfillment tropes just because it's tagged litRPG. It's a survival story with the game settings on Hell difficulty. The plot hasn't gotten there yet, but in the future of the series I want to recreate my nostalgia of forty person raids on Ragnaros, but with the high stakes of boss battles in Sword Art Online. I also love puzzle rooms so expect one of those each book. Warnings: mild PG-rated language, graphic violence and gore, and graphic medical content.
