《Harry Potter: Blood of the Dragon 》Chapter 200: Genius Potioneer Magnus

*BOOM*
"Jump to the left, Ragnar!" Magnus shouted.
Ragnar was following everything Magnus was shouting and masterfully doing it. They were currently in the Room of Requirements.
Magnus was teaching Ragnar how to fight. He's been doing this for a month now. Ragnar initially was very sloppy when it came to moving around with his sword.
But with a good amount of practice to make muscle memory, some movements become natural. He just had to beat him a lot.
Now, he practised with the various dummies in the room.
"You keep on practising, I need to go out now. Emma is probably waiting for me in the field. I need to give her some life advice today. Don't get yourself killed." He left Ragnar to get beaten and learn the hard way.
...
*WOOSH*
"That's good, very good posture. If you keep this on, you can become a professional quidditch player." He praised her.
She gleefully smiled, "Hehe, but I don't want to become that. I'd rather make brooms for the international players."
Magnus slowly descended to the ground while talking, "That's a good dream too. If you can develop a good broom, you can become famous around the world.
"But have you ever thought about creating brooms for anything outside quidditch?" He inquired.
She denied, "No, why would I make it for anything else? The only people who buy my ultra-fast brooms are the quidditch players, enthusiasts or rich people with too much money. Who else would buy them?"
Magnus put his arm on her shoulder and started painting a picture in her mind. He was in his professional businessman mode. But she seemed ecstatic with his arm being on her shoulder.
"Are you interested in making brooms which the Ministry, not only the British but from all around the wizarding world would be interested in? Do you want to make hundreds of thousands of Galleons, millions in the long run? Even I might buy a million Galleons worth of them.
"A broom, so fast and deadly that official permission is required to buy it. What are your thoughts?" He asked after making her nearly drool over this dreamy picture he had painted in her mind.
"What Broom? Tell me, quick." She asked hastily.
Magnus smiled. "Hehe, look at this design. I call this a fighter broom. They have greater speed, better manoeuvrability and also the ability to throw some energy shots."

Emma stared at the design closely for a good five minutes. Ideas had already started to take hold in her head. When she finally looked at Magnus, she had stars in her eyes.
"THIS!... This is amazing. I want it. I want to make it." She requested with puppy eyes.
"This is all yours to make. But remember, if you start this, there is no going back. You will be working on this broom for your lifetime, upgrading it, bringing a better version after every few years." Magnus warned her. He did not want her to do this half-assed. But, as it involved brooms, he could rest easy.
"I AM READY TO MAKE AN UNBREAKABLE VOW!" She blurted seriously.
Magnus laughed and patted on her long silky black hair, "It's okay, no need for such vows. I trust you."
"REALLY?" This meant the world to her. To get recognition from the person you admire secretly is the best thing one could ask for.
"Yes, now let's go and pack our bags. The term is ending in a few days. You can come to my house during these holidays." He said and walked back to the castle.
...
The final exams were here. Magnus had aced all of them. But now only the Potions exam and Charms exam were left and he was nervous as hell.
He was standing in the lab, in front of the cauldron. He was supposed to make a Rejuvenation potion today. It was a pretty basic potion, but Magnus was genetically crap at it. It was as if, the moment he touched any potion ingredient, it gets rotten.
~Come on, Merlin can't be this bad at Potions, right?~ he tried to cheer himself up.
~Hmm, ash of a lion's nails. Hair of a powerful animal. Seeds of the never withering flower...~ He poured the ingredient as he had memorised, from word to word. He even followed the instructions to the point.
~If I can still not make it then I should commit... ah... what do they say in Japan?... Yes, I should commit Sudoku with a paper-pin.~ he cursed himself.
One by one, everyone completed their positions and Slughorn passed them with a big smile on his face. Then, Ragnar's turn came. Slughorn put a drying leaf on the potion.
Slowly, the drying leaf turned back to green, looking like it was still on the tree.

"MARVELLOUS! This is the best rejuvenation potion I have ever seen, it might even bring back a dead hippogriff to life. Good job Ragnar. You will get full marks." Slughorn started praising him to the skies, totally enjoying the extolling.
After that, with Severus also he had the same reaction, albeit a little less enthusiastic. Then finally Magnus' turn came, he proudly presented the cauldron to Slughorn.
The old man had a smile on his face but deep inside he knew that Magnus had no talent in potions. But he didn't mind, because he was exceptional in everything else, and he knew that Potions were things that could be acquired with money, something Magnus didn't lack. Not to mention now his brother was Ragnar himself.
"Let's see how you did, Mr Pendragon." Slughorn cheerfully put a drying leaf on the potion.
*WOOSH*
The damn leaf burned into nothingness instead of turning into lush green and remind them of spring. Slughorn took a few steps back and went to his own table, from there he brought a spoon from his drawer.
He silently dipped it in the potion to store it to study later. As he had never seen such a reaction from the combination of ingredients that were meant for the rejuvenation potion.
*WOOSH*
The spoon too melted and vanished, Slughorn in a shock even dropped the spoon in it and it vanished in fumes.
*THUD*
Slughorn stumbled back from the cauldron, with his eyes widened, almost showing a hint of fear.
~Hehe, is it so amazing that he's speechless?~ Magnus gloated inside, thinking he had aced the exam.
But Slughorn broke all his dreams, "STAY BACK! EVERYONE! If you don't want to die, stay back."
( ̄▽ ̄)"
Magnus was in shock and looked at his harmless potion in his little cauldron. ~This can, kill?~
Everyone had the same question in their heads, how could the rejuvenation portion turn into this? It went beyond the ordinary senses.
Magnus asked Slughorn, "What happened, professor? Why are you so shocked?"
"T-This is... that was an enchanted silver spoon I used, made to withstand all potions. But it melted like butter in that potion. Mr Pendragon, I must say, you are a genius... You just invented the world's most potent acid and poison." Slughorn announced.
Magnus' jaw dropped. ~What the... but I wasn't making a poison?~
"Professor, why isn't the cauldron melting then?" A student asked. It was indeed a good question, but only Magnus had an answer to it.
"Oh, this is my personal cauldron. It was enchanted by some very special people." Magnus revealed. This cauldron was after all from Camelot, made by the goblins themselves.
Magnus, though, had different priorities, "Professor, did I pass the exam?"
Slughorn was still looking at the potion with dread. "Yes... Yes, you pass with flying colours, Mr Pendragon. Although you did not make what I asked, you did make something that will be taught in school potions books in the future. You just created history, a new record for the most poisonous and acidic potion."
Magnus shyly smiled, hearing that praise. ~Well, all's well, ends well. I guess I am a genius in potions after all...~
"Huh, look at that smug smile on his face. I bet he thinks he is some big shot now." Ragnar mocked Magnus while talking to Severus.
Magnus scoffed and started jokingly boasting, "Huh, someone seems jealous. Hehe, I guess everyone is envious of a true genius."
"You would have failed if this was the O.W.L.s. It was Slughorn, that's why you passed. He's a sucker for any new potion." Ragnar reasoned. Though he was feeling a burning rage in his heart seeing Magnus successful in making a potion, even if it was a mistake.
"If you can make that potion again only then I will call you a genius. Otherwise, you are nothing but like those Plague Doctors in the past. Prove to me what you did was not a fluke." Ragnar challenged him.
*Whistling*
"I am tired right now, so I will go to sleep. Let's do this tomorrow." Magnus said and calmly but with a fast pace went away, hiding his gaze.
~Hehe, tomorrow is Charms exam, he will be too nervous to remember anything.~ Magnus laughed in his mind.

Ursus Ex Machina
Ozzy was a man of the wild. Raised in a remote village atop the world's mightiest mountain, he'd been taught to respect and revere the natural world. The realm he was born into had been there long before him, and it would remain there long after him. Sure, there was the occasional madman who threatened to destroy it, but such boasts were always empty. No one individual was actually capable of demolishing this beautiful blue-and-green ball Ozzy called home. No matter what terrible magics these villains wielded, they were incapable of causing permanent harm to the environment. Even if the planet was completely devastated, it would recover. Life would find a way to flourish, same as it always had. That was what Ozzy believed from the bottom of his heart, so he never once felt the need to save the world he loved. After all, it was never truly in danger. The world would be fine no matter what. The people were a wee bit endangered, but that was another story altogether. However, what would happen if Ozzy suddenly found himself devoid of his beloved wilds? What would the man do if the realm he knew - one of wonder, magic, and chaos - was replaced with a man-made environment of concrete, industry, and steam? Ozzy could never imagine such a thing happening, and yet that was his new reality. After losing a fateful confrontation with a mad wizard, he and his friends found themselves transported to a strange world so thoroughly alien that every waking moment feels like a fever dream. Separated and scattered to the four corners of this land, each of these adventurers will need to adapt, survive, and overcome if they hope to reunite. They would also need to do so quickly. The sooner they are able to find one another, the sooner they can figure out a way back home and have another crack at putting an end to the villain's plans. Whether such a thing was actually possible in a world with barely any magic in it was a valid concern, but Ozzy had more immediate things to worry about. For instance, why did the air smell like a perpetual forest fire? How did ships sail through the sky as if it were water? And most importantly, was the pavement he was hurtling towards at high speed much softer than it looked? Probably not, but a man could hope.
