《Psycho X Psychic 》Chapter 27: Nick Mauren's Return

'This is unforgivable!'
'Why would the two of them become partners!? Unbelievable!'
It was already Monday morning. Coming back to school, Lina was once again reminded about what happened last Friday.
While she was partnered with a random person, Teren was partnered with Iesa.
She restrained herself to stomp on her way to her seat. As the class president, she would be always early at school.
After last week, the daily cleaners were grouped. Group 1 would be the cleaner for Monday, group 2 for Tuesday, and so on.
She was early so that she can overlook the cleaner's works.
After a while, these cleaners arrived earlier than the others. Lina took note of this. That was when an unexpected person came in.
He was tall and his arm was wrapped in bandaged as it was hanged from his neck. There were a lot of bandages on his other arm too.
This person is obviously Nick. He looked around nervously while attracting some attention.
Many were curious about what happened to him but since they were not close, they didn't have the chance.
'Sir Hanon will surely ask.' they thought.
While they cleaned and prepared the room for the day, Nick was sweating, seemingly scared of something. Looking at his face, he didn't look like he had enough sleep last time too.
Soon, students came in and looked at him with puzzled eyes.
Lina was curious but honestly, she didn't give a crap whatever happened to Nick.
When the cleaners finished, there were only a few minutes left before classes. At that moment, the popular Iesa Hun had arrived.
But before she entered the classroom, she noticed some strange thoughts.
'What happened to him?'
'Got into a gang fight?'
'Should I ask him?'
'Is it about Teren, did something happened to him?' Iesa frowned and when she opened the door, she saw that Teren's seat was still empty.

She sighed in relief.
'It seemed like they were not talking about him.' she then walked towards her chair and sat.
That was when she realized there's a tall person in front of her.
'Wait, who's seated in front of me again?'
She thought until when she realized, she tensed up.
'The bully, Nick! He's back!?'
Observing, she saw that he had a lot of bandages, further confirming that he is Teren's victim.
'Oh no, will he tell others? What happened to the case?'
While still looking calm on the outside, she was looked calm on the outside. At the same time, Teren entered the room.
Iesa noticed him and looked at his reaction.
Teren immediately noticed Nick with a glance.
'Ah... he's back.'
He then went to his seat.
Iesa: 'That's it!? You psychopath! React even a little, don't let me get nervous here all alone!'
Meanwhile, when Nick noticed that Teren was there, he trembled.
'Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit! I'm so fucking scared!'
That was the first time Iesa heard Nick's thoughts again. Somehow, she nodded in understanding.
'I get you. I'm just a witness and he already scared the soul out of me. I pity you.'
She then continued to hear thoughts from Nick.
'Should I do it? Shit! I'm trembling, the wound, it fucking hurts! But I have to do it, for the Handwing Gang!'
Iesa frowned: 'Handwing Gang? Didn't Teren say something about that? I even heard it from Sir Hanon! Don't tell me!?'
The worst-case scenario was already flashing before her eyes.
'He wants revenge and will try to assassinate Teren!'
Nick clenched his face and thought, 'I have to do this! Here I go!' before standing up.
iesa: 'I have to stop him!'

She stood up as well.
Teren: 'Iesa is right, I have to apologize to him.'
And of course, Teren did as well.
"Ah" the three of them looked at each other.
'What's happening?' that was the general thought of the class.
It was Iesa who spoke first and stepped in front of Teren.
"Get away from him." she glared.
Not only Teren and Nick, but the whole class had question marks on their head.
Nick: 'Wh-what's happening? Who's she talking to? Is she protecting me...? No, she's glaring at me. No way! Does she think I'm going to do something to Teren!? Even if I will, why!? Didn't she see how that psychopath almost killed me!?'
Iesa: 'Wait, he's not going to do anything? Then what are his intentions?'
Teren: 'Is she protecting Nick from me? I guess she's afraid that I will do something that will trouble us again.'
"Iesa, I'm not going to do anything." he then whispered to her closely not to let others hear.
Iesa shivered from his breath.
Lina: 'Is Teren didn't know what personal space is or are they that close!?'
"Teren, you're not the one whom I said that to."
"Eh?" Teren didn't expect that.
The atmosphere got tensed as the attention of the whole class was placed upon them, puzzled that this situation was very bizarre.
"You...!" Nick frowned at this and pointed at Iesa. He couldn't believe that she's trying to protect Teren.
'Why would she protect him!? No, what if he's threatening her!?'
Iesa: 'That's not wrong if it was before.'
Nick: 'Damnit! I just want to get close to Teren. But how will I do that with her in the way!?'
Iesa: 'Huh? Did I hear correctly?'
Wanting to be clear about it, she asked.
"What do you want?" her glare disappeared and her tone got milder.
Nick gulped.
'I couldn't just tell her that I need to gain Teren's trust and support by sucking up to him!'
At that, Iesa finally learned what he was up to. Although she didn't know the reason why Nick would want Teren's trust and support, she can always learn later.
'Thoughts don't stop anyway. He will surely blurt it out later. For now, at least, I know that he doesn't mean harm to Teren even though his intentions don't make sense from someone who almost died. But that's for later...'
Iesa's face got redder.
'How do I get out of this situation? This is all because of this psychopath!'
"I'm... I just want to talk to Teren." Nick said with hardship.
"I just want to talk to him too." Teren replied.
Nick: 'What? What does he want? Why does he want to talk to me!? Goddamnit it, I can't believe I'm trembling just because of those words!'

But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves.
