《Loki’s Successor System 》Chapter 104: Clash of Cops (2)

Wyatt had quailed. Another ability user in one day. He himself was blessed with an ability; and so he did not fear the possible, pessimistic outcomes of fighting this battle.
Officers were falling one by one; by what seemed to be a hovering blade. Joan furrowed her brows. She had long drawn her sword. She squeezed it firmly. She was only a cop to not fight for justice but to eliminate people like this masked man murderer before her. After all, it was one of these monsters who had killed her parents.
Wyatt hesitated. While he was busy flirting with Joan, fellow officers were losing their lives.
He clenched his teeth, and stepped forward. "He's right there in front of you. Don't let his ability fool you. Light him up, boys!!!" he shouted atop his lungs.
The armed officers had started to fire hundreds of bullets at the invisible figure. However, they saw no blood. Heard no pain. But they had continued until their bullets were out. Erroneous.
"What the fuck are you waiting for!? Reload!"
The officers had fumbled to reload their weapons. Why hadn't the masked murderer died yet? Was he invisible, or was he a ghost? Their efforts were unrelenting, the truth unbeknown.
At the back of these officers; was a particularly coward young man. His name was Jasper. He did not bring a weapon with him. For he had an ability. Though, his ability was ... quite faulty. His fire could not span wider than his hand. And this fire—his very own flames—would offentimes impose agony upon him. Humilating, it was.
The worst part about this merciless, ill-fated life of his was that he had no one else, not even himself. He was a lonesome one. Today, however, he had noticed that if it was friends he was seeking, on a battlefield was certainly the wrong place for this.
Suddenly, a blade gashed his back from behind. He groaned, instinctively rolling forward; another slash passing overhead. He fell on his wounded back, such that he could see an invisible blade above him. It was a forthcoming attack. So he cowardly rolled right, and had evaded.
As the dagger slashed the concrete floor; Jasper had gotten the time to call for help. "Guys! Help me! He's right here!" tears ran down his face like a river. He cried like a baby.
Jin's invisibility had faded. The officers were able to perceive him. Upon hearing Jasper's cry, the officers all turned around on high alert. Wyatt's face had scrunched in anger. He looked around. The masked murderer had already taken down twelve of them from behind already, and Jasper would have been the thirteenth.

Joan stood; with a serious facial expression. Many of the officers were falling. The masked murderer was competent with both his magic and his blade. He silently murderered so many of them from behind. Was he as skilled as her? There was, unfortunately, merely one way to find out.
Jin stood mencacinly; placing his hood over his head, then jamming his hands back into his kangaroo pocket.

Jin gave not a care about the other messages on his screen, except for a particularly striking one. One entirely new to him ...
[Challenge Time]
[All of your skills are temporarily deactivated for 10 minutes. You must survive.]
[Reward: 10 Exp]
Unfortunately, his mask was also a skill. And as such, it had also deactivated, vanishing from
his face. His identity was revealed. And now; all of these officers were to be killed.
Joan scrutinized Jin's countenance. There was a subtle confusion to which she could now perceive. Why had he suddenly revealed himself to them? Was he not using invisibility again? There was no longer a stark green glow to his eyes.
The battlefield was paused.
Joan furrowed her brows; walking up to Wyatt. Wyatt was at a lost for words. The masked murderer was Jin all along. He knew this kid. The hopeless crippled kid who he had helped in the past. The same kid whose grandma made him cookies? He suddenly felt an abrupt weakness to his core.
"Wyatt," said Joan, "it's time to end him. We must move fast. I think the boy is out of mana. Now that we've seen his face—he's obligated to try killing us all."
Wyatt—physically buffed—stared with widened ears. He could not kill his shock, and so he could not move his lips to form a reponse.
"Wyatt," Joan called again. "Send in the ability users. We, S ranks, remain in the middle of the armed men for protection; while our ability users tire him out."
Wyatt had finally snapped out of it. The kid was probably not the same. He couldn't have been Jin. Jin was crippled. Wyatt hesitated. "R-right," he furrowed his brows, "All B-Ranked officers .... charge!!!"
The B ranks had fumbled a trifle. But had eventually mustered bravery to lunge toward the masked murderer. After the first man ran in, one after the other had pursued. They all knew that it was somewhat suicidal but bothered not to care too gravely.

Jin quickly raised his hand as the cops rushed toward him. A dagger had manifested in this hand. His skills were deactived; but the same did not go for his weapons. The nearest cop was Jasper who loitered on the floor.
Before the others could arrive; Jin quickly hurtled the dagger down at Jasper. Jasper cowardly turned his head, closed his eyes, and raised his hand. The blade was sufficiently sharp as to impale his wrist. He groaned in pain; reaching for the dagger. As soon as he had touched it, it vanished.
The officers assaulted Jin. He dashed right, and slashed. Then left, slashing a crowd of cops. Suddenly, a cop bent over and touched the ground. The earth shifted, and faulted. And then a boulder of concrete shot out from the floor. Jin had dashed backward in time such that he had evaded.
A cop came running on the wall, and kicking Jin to his chest. Jin steadied on his feet. He quickly slashed his dagger; decapitating the officer.
Officers lunged toward Jin, one after the other. Relentlessly, Jin slashed. He slashed and slashed. Drawing forth blood, and opened flesh. Permanent scars. But the victims needn't fret ... after all they would certainly not be alive. Not when Jin was finished with them, at least.
[Defeat 20 Opponents]
[Progression: 9/20 kills]
Jin clenched his teeth as an officer rammed a fist into his stomach. Jin quickly slashed at assailant's chest. Then, he launched a foot into his chest. Another drew spikes from his body, and shot Jin to his arm from afar.
Jin groaned; stumbling a trifle on his feet. Then he had gotten impaled for the second time. Then came a third. He could not dodge, and the spikes had a poisonous effect to them. His vision began to blur.
[Effect: Poison] [+ 2 Ressistance]
Jin staggered on his feet, his arms dangling at his sides, as more officers lunged in. An officer—with a fist magically enchanced to that of metal—buried his fist into Jin's eye socket. Jin groaned the hardest he had ever in his life.
[HP: 26/47]
More officers charged. Boulders of molten rock shot up from the surface and slammed into Jin's body. He barely steadied again; staggering on his feet. He lifelessly slashed his blade, scoring only a measly few times.
Spikes relentlessly peirced through his body. It penetrated his flesh and muscle like pain, delivering a searing pain that subtly burnt. After several rounds of penetration, Jin still hadn't succumbed. He steadied on his feet again.
An officer with a flame ability, constantly smacked him to his body. It felt like being hit by meteors. The cop was fast. Eligible to be an S-rank officer on Jin's part. But in truth, his speed was his least impressive skill. He wasn't getting faster ... Jin was only getting slower, unfortunately. The poison had drugged him till dissiness. But there was fight left in him, despite lacking skills.
Jin had mustered strength to thrust his blade as the officer pounced with a hand engulfed in flames. The dagger had penetrated the officer's heart. His eyes bulged. He looked down at the dagger, and then looked up at Jin again. Through burst gums and broken teeth, the officer was able to recognize an evil smirk on Jin's countenance.
Distracted, Jin was unable to dodge a forthcoming attack. A baton hit him to his temple. The robust material collided with his head, and shook his skull. He felt as though bits of his soul had been knocked out.
He collapsed right then; seeing nothing but distorted blurs. Still, he had managed to retain his smirk.
[HP: 10/47]
"Now's our chance to finish him once and for all!"
"Get the little fucker!"
Suddenly, it grew silent after a warping noise had sounded. Jin heard not even footsteps of the men who were just charging him. He frowned. What was taking them so long? Slowly, he stood, keeping his eyes closed.
"What's the matter?" he asked, "You having second thoughts, or are you all too weak to kill a fallen teenager?" He slowly opened his right eye. And only the right he could open. His left was, unfortunately lost. However, this single eye was sufficient as to allow him to see a figure standing in front of him—defending him from the officers.
It was a tall figure; freakishly tall if was to amend. How did he get there so—
That was recognition dawned on Jin's countenance. It was Officer Alexandro, the man who had freed him from prison in retrocspect.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.

Having given the chance relive his life, Alexander decides to move out of his reclusive comfort zone and test how far his methods would change the world. From this, he becomes a Chaos Butterfly whose wingspan encompasses everything from comic books, toys, animation, tv shows, movies, music, and even beauties. ------- This is a work of fiction and a lot of unresearched topics so don't bash my trashy work too much. Also, it is just a fictionalization of things for entertainment and just sharing for free. Hope I don't get much trouble for it and hope I don't get sued or whatever. -------- Cover Credits go to LordValmar.
