《The Rise Of A Porter 》Chapter 86: Lesser Dragon, Bigger Pain: Trial (6)

"I thought since the Wyvern won't be able to fly inside the room... I'll have a better shot at killing it but have my life ever been that easy?" Arnold complaint and placed his hands on his knees, panting from exhaustion due to running around a lot.
He wasn't running around the room because of some absurd reason, actually... he was running for his life!
The room he was inside was vast but it wasn't very high, the height of the room was about 10 feet and hence, despite having wings, the Wyvern couldn't fly inside the room. Initially Arnold thought this was a blessing in disguise, but little did he know that this blessing would turn into a curse, as the Wyvern was enraged as his ability to fly was restricted and the Wyvern, due to its low intelligence, could only blame the person in front of her for it.
Arnold initially decided to retaliate and started throwing icy cold spears towards the lesser Dragon, but to his surprise, his spears broke like icicles upon contact with the Wyvern's thick black skin. Basically, making his only way of offense useless.
The only positive thing in this entire scenario was the presence of numerous pillars that were spread across the entirety of the room at regular intervals, and for some reason, these pillars weren't affected by the flames that the bastard reptile was spewing right and left.

[Rewards would be automatically added to your inventory when the Wyvern is slain]
___
"Tsk." Arnold clicked his tongue, although he knew that he would not have been able to get the SS ranked reward for slaying the Wyvern, but seeing the opportunity get wasted away was still a bit painful.
He shook his head and reminded himself that survival was more important than some 'measly' reward. After all, the was a limit to mindlessly charging towards his enemies.
'It's gone quite all of sudden...' Arnold thought and peeked towards the Wyvern while hiding behind the pillar. To his surprise, the dragon was gazing right towards him.
The Wyvern's calm pearly eyes sat well within the creature's rounded, horned skull, which gave the creature a very ominous looking appearance. There were several horns atop its head, just above its wide, warped ears. Rows after rows of crystal growths ran down the sides of each of its jaw lines. It had a thick snout with two tiny, warped nostrils and there's a crystal-like growth on its chin. Several huge teeth poke out from the side of its mouth and give a preview of the terror hiding inside.
Its huge neck ran down from its head and into the humongous body. The top was covered in massive scales and a row of armor plating ran down its spine. Its bottom was covered in thick skin and is colored darker than the rest of its body. Four massive limbs carry its body and allow the creature to stand graceful and arrogantly. Each claw had 6 'fingers', each of which end in narrow nails seemingly made of bone.
Slender wings grew starting from just below its shoulders and ended at its hips. The wings were almost angel-like, a specialized layer of seemingly color-changing skin made up most of the wing and each bone structures ended in a curved, yet blunt tip. Its massive tail ended in a sword-like edge and was covered in the same massive scales as its body. All in all it looked like a living nightmare, a nightmare that Arnold had to overcome and slay.

As the Wyvern prepared to unleash another wave of fire, Arnold used his elemental abilities and covered the entire floor with a thick layer of ice. The Wyvern, who didn't expect Arnold to use such a trick, lost its balance and shot his deadly flames towards the ceiling instead. Arnold expected that nothing would happen to the ceiling as it was made up of similar material that the pillars were made of but unlike his expectations, the seemingly 'indestructible' ceiling, crumbled and crashed upon the Wyvern itself.
To Arnold's surprise, no damage was inflicted on the Wyvern, as he rose from within the rubble and shook his gigantic head to get rid of the dust that covered it.
"Even the roof couldn't stop it... not even for a moment." Arnold mumbled. He was astonished by the power of this demonic being, he wondered how he was supposed to defeat something like this. When he was about to lose the little bit of hope that he had, a surprising notification appeared on his interface.
___
A [Unique] slayer's weapon had appeared.
___
"Slayer's weapon?" Arnold mumbled as the words were reflected from his retina. Something flashed in his eyes as his gaze fell on the slayer's weapon that fell from the broken roof of the chamber. "VINDICATOR!"
It was none other than Arnold's old and trusty pair of guns. Arnold didn't cared why his guns had been branded as 'Slayer's weapon', he was simply excited about seeing his weapon and hopefully, 'a way' to put an end to the Wyvern itself. But this joy was short lived as the guns fell hear the Wyvern's right foot and were rolling around the lesser dragon's legs. It was a location where no one could've easily pick them up, Arnold was troubled once again.
On one hand it was absolutely necessary for him to obtain the Vindicator if he wanted to slay the Wyvern, but on the other hand, he was 100% sure that if he made even a minor mistake while he tried to retrieve the guns, it would lead to his death...
'Even if I don't do anything, I'll die. The Wyvern will get me sooner or later.' Arnold mentally prepared himself, to face the Wyvern.

Saga of the Jewels VOLUME ONE COMPLETE
Prefer to listen to rather than read Saga of the Jewels? I'm also releasing it as a free audibook serial podcast on iTunes here! Epic YA JRPG-influenced GameLit progression ensemble-cast steampunk romance fantasy! When Ryn’s hometown is destroyed, will he be able to gather together the twelve Primeval Jewels in order to defeat the evil Emperor and save the world of Mid? A fan novelization of an amazing Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist, that currently releases at least one chapter a month. Epic in that this will be very long. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint!” (-Kandaj) YA in that this should be enjoyable to~13-year-olds and upwards. Some gore, some swearing, some sex, but nothing more than PG-13. JRPG-influenced / GameLit in that it uses lots of JRPG tropes, particularly from Final Fantasy. I’ve read a lot of fan Final Fantasy novelisations and you can basically think of this as a fan novelisation of its own Final Fantasy game that doesn’t actually exist as a game... Progression in that the characters level up over time (though not with visible litrpg stat boxes). They grow in ability through training and experience, gain new skills, individually and as a party (think Chrono Trigger) and spend time discussing and stratgeising about how to defeat their opponents. Main protagonist from book three would definitely be able to defeat himself from book one! Ensemble-cast because we've got quite the roster of misfits here. The first volume is all from the main protagonist's POV, but it starts dancing between his and different POVs thereafter. Steampunk in that we’ve also got airships, steam trains, pistols and ambiguous ‘amber bars’ that function a bit like artificial lights… Romance in that there is lots of shipping here, a few love triangles, and you may be kept guessing as to who will actually end up together... Fantasy in that we’re in a vaguely pre-modern setting. We’ve got swords, magic, dragons, dungeons, monsters, all that good stuff. * "This story captures that Final Fantasy quality perfectly. Kiddy but also grim. The characters are great... Severely underrated and needs more favorites/follows. I look forward to seeing how this story will unfold." -Gilgamesh9999 "Starting at the end and jumping backwards is not a writing style seen every day. I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical at first, but you've executed a fairly crazy idea very skillfully so far. Overall, a strong start to what could be a very strong story." -RandomFF.netUser "You definitely have my interest piqued. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes... It definitely has an 'old school Final Fantasy' type feel to it, which I appreciate...Good job! I am glad you are going into more details about the story you laid out in the prologue...of course the big burning question is 'You know they lose in the the first chapter, so how will they end up winning?' That of course, is the story you're writing...so we'll see how it goes! #Following." -KyleQuicksilver (quotes are from reviews on other sites) * If you enjoy it, don’t forget to boost Saga of the Jewels on topwebfiction.com!
