《MMORPG: Martial Gamer》Chapter 1490. Come, Enter The Pouch

When he saw how quickly the power he amassed crumbled, Captain Don’t Open Fire nearly spat blood.
He couldn’t help but shoot back, “Can’t you think about the big picture? Leave the territory-split for later, alright?”
When they heard these words, the other guild leaders panicked, “The big picture? Sanguine Alliance has fallen, and you’re talking about the bigger picture? Do you want us to put you on the seat of Twilight City’s City Lord before you’ll give the territory to us?”
“Bullsh*t, look at him right now. Even if he becomes Twilight City’s City Lord, we won’t get anything out of it. All he wants is free labour.”
…
Everyone started from a guild. What was a guild? All it symbolized was the relationships between guild leaders. On the other hand, their subordinates were nothing more than slaves that helped them achieve their objectives.
Captain Don’t Open Fire’s words weren’t foreign to the guild leaders’ ears at all. These words served no other purpose other than to coax the subordinates. Why would any of these old rascals believe in his words?
“If you’re putting things this way, I have no choice!” Captain Don’t Open Fire was exasperated. He laid down all his cards, “If we don’t eliminate Quan Zhen Sect, don’t even think about getting your territories.”
“F*ck!”
With those words from Captain Don’t Open Fire, everyone flew into a frenzy. They protested angrily, “Motherf*cker, you’re taking back your words?! I’m not doing this! Take the money; let’s go!”
With that, they left the group chat.
Which guild leader would let themselves be stepped on like that?
With Captain Don’t Open Fire’s response, everyone felt enraged at Void Blade.
If it weren’t for Captain Don’t Open Fire offering money in exchange for resources, they would have ordered their subordinates to attack Void Blade at once.
Even though nobody dared to turn against Captain Don’t Open Fire openly, nothing stopped them from flaming Captain Don’t Open Fire behind his back.

The first thing these guild leaders did once they left the group was tell their subordinates that Captain Don’t Open Fire was unreliable. All the benefits he promised were nothing more than bait. Everyone was to return to their original locations and there was no need for them to risk their lives and offend the Quan Zhen Sect.
There was a saying that went like this: gossip that travelled through the grapevine became the truth.
Of course, the players weren’t dumb either. There was no way they would work for free. The fact that a guild leader said something like that meant that there was some truth to it. Furthermore, that was what every guild leader would insist. As a result, Captain Don’t Open Fire’s credibility went down the drain.
All the players left Void Blade’s alliance party. Even the external help he hired at high prices panicked.
Within half an hour, Captain Don’t Open Fire’s hundreds of thousands of forces were reduced to his initial numbers of tens of thousands of people.
The b*stards from Quan Zhen Sect hid in the neighbouring Harbor City. Everything that happened in Twilight City went through Darknorth Fisher and Frost Blade, entering Quan Zhen Sect’s network.
When they saw how quickly Void Blade’s forces fell apart, Quan Zhen Sect members laughed so hard that their teeth nearly fell off.
“Hahaha. Damn it, Fearless; you’re vicious.” Ming Du gave Fearless a thumbs-up, “What’s this called?”
Fearless responded confidently, “This is the Tiger’s Feast, Defeating Three With One.”
Fearless was adept at creating conflict from the core of one’s forces. Since these sly foxes from Void Blade wanted benefits, as long as they gave out real benefits, a rift would be created between them.
Now, things were going well. By giving up their territory in the capital, a huge piece of meat appeared before the Sanguine Alliance. With a single move, Void Blade’s power dissipated at once. Without having to use any of their forces, their alliance crumbled. With this, Captain Don’t Open Fire probably lost all of his credibility and power. No matter how much benefits he offered in the future, there was no way these small sects would ever work with him again.

“What do we do now?” Spring Halo asked from the sidelines.
“We’ll see what Old Bull wants to do.” Fearless turned around, “Do you want them to wait for them to rebuild the Central District before making a move, or do you want to remove them from the Central District for good?”
“Hmph!” Wang Yu responded angrily, “These players are so damn greedy. After building the Western District, they think they can covet the City Lord’s position. If we let them rebuild the Central District, what else would they demand? Just destroy them all!”
“Alright!” Fearless nodded as he sent Sanguine Stormbringer a message, “Tell your members to come online. It’s time for the grand finale.”
“I got it!” Sanguine Stormbringer received Fearless’ orders and notified all the Sanguine Alliance’s players at once. Within ten minutes, all the players from Sanguine Alliance came online and Quan Zhen Sect members teleported to Twilight City.
When they spotted the Quan Zhen Sect members, Sanguine Warflag looked like he finally met his hero. He was exceptionally excited as he spoke emotionally, “Boss Fearless, everyone from Sanguine Alliance has arrived. Please give us your orders.”
Fearless pulled out Twilight City’s map as he began, “Station 2,000 people to hide on Trading Street, 2,000 players near the entrance of Middle Street, 2,000 players on Middle Street, and 5,000 people on the rooftop. Hide the rest at the entrance of Middle Street and wait for my orders.”
“Haha!”
Wang Yu stared at Fearless’ plan as he smirked, “Are you planning to seal them in a pouch?”
Fearless’ set-up was in the shape of a pouch.
The two sides of Middle Street were filled with players. Right above them, there were covers. Especially the players stationed at Middle Street’s entrance, they were like ribbons sealing a pouch. This was clearly a plan to surround-and-capture Void Blade.
“That’s right! Your vision has improved, hasn’t it?” Fearless smirked as he took back his map.
“How do you plan to lure the Void Blade’s men over?” Wang Yu asked.
Captain Don’t Open Fire wasn’t dumb. With such an obvious layout, how could he capture them so easily?
Fearless smiled cheekily, “Relax! They’ll come!”
“Aiya, Captain Don’t Open Fire has contacted me!”
Right after Fearless spoke those words, Sanguine Warflag exclaimed, “He wants to talk to me about the compensation.”
Fearless said, “Tell him to come here.”
“Yes!” Sanguine Warflag replied at once, “I’m on Middle Street.”
“???”
When he read Sanguine Warflag’s message, Captain Don’t Open Fire replied angrily, “Are you telling me to head over?”
“Of course!” Sanguine Warflag replied irritably, “Are you really telling me to deliver the City Lord’s Seal sneakily? Even if we’ve lost, we have pride.”
“That…” Captain Don’t Open Fire hesitated for a moment before he asked Big Bear Deng Deng An, “The damned Sanguine Warflag told me to negotiate at Middle Street. Should I go?”
“It can’t be a trap, right?” Big Bear Deng Deng An was alarmed once he heard that.
“Hmm…” Captain Don’t Open Fire offered, “I’m not afraid of traps. Sanguine Alliance just lost their capital station and there’s a cooldown for a challenge. The next battle will be at least half a month later. I’m afraid he’ll kill us out of spite.”
“F*ck…”
Hearing Captain Don’t Open Fire’s words, Big Bear Deng Deng An felt chills run down his spine.

Beast
A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host. ............................................. Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.

Leave Bad Enough Alone
Something has been amiss in the city’s theaters as of late. The local bards have long done a respectable job of keeping the audiences entertained, weaving high concepts with skillful performances. But lately, a new set of bards, and their illusionist cohorts, have captured the crowd’s attention. Compared to the theater’s usual fare, their work is hackneyed and poorly plotted, with unskilled acting, bad special effects, and unsatisfying resolutions. Worst of all, the audiences like their work more, and these upstarts are far more profitable than the city’s decent bards! Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy! Or maybe the city’s bards have just become too hopelessly pretentious and derivative. It’s hard to tell. But investigate it they must! Failure is not an option! Victory, or...well, they’ll have to get day jobs or something. Original cover image generated by NightCafé.Master story list here.

An Average American in A High-school Academy Anime
An American versed in narrative tropes and more than mildly acquainted with anime wakes up in a completely different bed than the one he went to bed in. Now he has to scramble to understand where he is, what's going on, and hope to God he isn't in a relationship drama. I don't expect this to be good or well-received, but I have plenty of time this quarantine, so I'll try to get a chapter of 4000-10000 words out every one or two weeks. (haha) Please let me know how it can be improved. I'm an avid reader of fiction, but I've never really fallen down a rabbit hole so hard that I can name all tropes and settings and such by heart. I'm not sure if this will be effective satire, so I preemptively apologize. Inspired by: "My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe..." by EO Tenkey and "The Simulacrum" by Eganthale. Check them out if you want probably better stories than this one.
