《MMORPG: Martial Gamer》Chapter 1472. Abandoning The Car To Protect The General

“This… How is this possible?” “No…”
“What’s the matter?”
When he saw Captain Don’t Open Fire’s response, Big Bear blurted this question.
Captain Don’t Open Fire shot a look toward Meng Xi. He said softly, “Quan Zhen Sect members have captured the Sacred Hall Squad…”
“What!!”
When he heard this, Big Bear Deng Deng An barely held himself back from jumping up as his eyes were filled with terror.
Sacred Hall Squad was a well-known existence in the international gaming circle. Big Bear Deng Deng An had experienced their strength and power firsthand. In front of their power, Quan Zhen Sect was weaker than baby chicks. They’d be rounded up in three out of five moves, with two moves to spare. They even managed to capture Wang Yu at the start. How did they turn the tables?
The only difference from the previous night was Iron Bull’s presence. He managed to overturn the situation alone. Was he that strong? That’d be on the level of an international expert.
“Do they have someone helping them on their side?” Big Bear Deng Deng An asked in confusion.
Big Bear’s confusion was understandable.
No matter how strong Quan Zhen Sect was, they were nothing more than a team of scraps. Even if they managed to take the championship title of the National Professional League, it would be because of luck.
Sacred Hall Squad was a well-known top-tier expert… Their abilities weren’t up at the level of the International sphere.
Even though only six people came from Sacred Hall Squad, they were only half of them. However, they were still world-class experts. If Quan Zhen Sect was able to fend them off, it was like saying an ADC casually killed an UZI; it was absolutely ridiculous.
“I’m not sure…” Captain Don’t Open Fire shook his head, “Anyway, I heard that Sacred Hall Squad’s members have been trapped at the resurrection point. Our secret assassination mission has failed… What do we do now…”

“This… I…” Big Bear stuttered as his face revealed regret.
Big Bear really wanted to give his past self a huge slap. Why did he have to interfere? If he knew that world-class experts were so unreliable, he would have continued drinking. Now that the entire Sacred Hall Squad was trapped, if he had to give Void Blade up, how would Void Blade continue?
If Sacred Hall Squad were Chinese players, it would be fine. Void Blade would just suffer the reputation of a single betrayal failure.
However, Sacred Hall Squad were European players. This had turned into an international problem, where he hired foreigners to betray his players… It wasn’t the same.
With Fearless’ shamelessness, he would turn this place around completely.
If word got out, Captain Don’t Open Fire would suffer a backlash. Not only would he be unable to raise his head in the local server, the players from his squad would ostracise him too.
“This won’t do; I’ll just sell you out… When the time is right, I’ll give you a raise…”
Captain Don’t Open Fire was the boss after all. He was decisive, choosing to abandon his pawn to save his squad.
Big Bear continued nervously, “Brother, quit joking. This isn’t about money… Should we find a temporary person?” It seemed like Big Bear was more concerned about his reputation than the money. At the very least, he cared about his pride.
That was logical. If he chose not to save his pride, he didn’t have to offend the Quan Zhen Sect either…
Just as the two were at a loss, Meng Xi stood up all of a sudden.
Captain and Big Bear were shocked. They asked quickly, “Lady Meng Xi, where are you going?”
Meng Xi replied matter-of-factly, “They’re looking for me now. I need to go…”
When Meng Xi said this, they stood up immediately and said, “Lady Meng Xi, I’m not sure if I should say this.”

“Speak your mind!” Meng Xi responded casually.
“That…” Big Bear hesitantly said, “I want to say something about the Quan Zhen Sect.”
“Oh? What is it?”
Big Bear Deng Deng An continued, “The one who wishes to make a deal with you is Sanguine Rain. However, it doesn’t mean that our Void Blade is willing to. Sacred Hall Squad were deployed to assassinate Quan Zhen Sect… but that’s none of our business either. I think we have to make this clear, otherwise…”
What did it mean to be sly? What did it mean to be shameless?
Big Bear Deng Deng An was the epitome of these descriptions.
When he had the upper hand, he would chase after them emphatically from the distance. When the situation was bad, he would shirk all responsibilities, ensuring he had no part of it. Captain Don’t Open Fire chose to toss their vigilante squad aside. On the other hand, Big Bear pulled the same trick. Everything was a complete mess.
“Alright, I get it!”
Meng Xi waved his hands as he intercepted Big Bear’s words. “Do you mean you want to terminate our alliance?”
“It’s not our, but yours and Sanguine Rain!” Big Bear corrected.
“Alright!”
When he heard Big Bear’s words, Meng Xi’s heart wasn’t shaken at all. Instead, she felt the urge to laugh.
At first, Meng Xi trusted Sanguine Rain and felt that Quan Zhen Sect was hard to deal with. That was why she wanted to borrow Void Blade’s power to deal with them.
However, after their alliance, they realized that these b*st*rds didn’t even dare to show their faces. All they did was leave Sacred Hall Squad guessing.
She did all the work but dealt with all the consequences. She allowed an unrelated person to receive all the benefits…
Meng Xi wasn’t really obsessed with revenge either. She wanted to terminate her alliance with Void Blade long ago. However, in view of her contractual integrity and the fact that Quan Zhen Sect’s people hadn’t been captured yet, she didn’t bring this matter up first.
This was the perfect chance. Quan Zhen Sect were already captured by Sacred Hall Squad as livestock! Void Blade even requested to terminate their partnership at once. Why wouldn’t Meng Xi be upset?
“You… you’ve agreed?”
Seeing Meng Xi’s carefree response, Big Bear couldn’t believe his ears for a comment.
“Yep!” Meng Xi nodded, “My father has taught me that a superficial thumbs-up isn’t enough to make a plan.”
“F*ck…”
Big Bear’s old face turned red, “Then, on account of us helping you and providing with Quan Zhen Sect’s whereabouts, please forget about any meetings we’ve had… how’s that?”
“Oh? What do you mean?”
Meng Xi asked confusedly.
“Not much…” Big Bear continued, “Even if you tell everyone, we won’t admit it. Anyway, they’ll just be empty words. Quan Zhen Sect can’t do a thing to us.”
“Hmph!” Watching Big Bear’s reaction, Meng Xi grunted coldly, “Yours truly was willing to form an alliance with trash. I’ll make sure nobody will find out I’ve met you before!”
Meng Xi returned to Void Blade’s office without turning back.
“She… can she really keep a secret?” Big Bear felt a little dazed as he watched Meng Xi’s silhouette disappear.
“I think she can.” Captain Don’t Open Fire continued, “Stop talking about her. With your shameless behavior from before, even I think it’s embarrassing…”
“Damn!” Big Bear raged, “I’m tossing them aside on your behalf… do you want me to call her back?”
“I got it, I got it. Don’t be anxious…” Captain comforted Big Bear at once.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
