《MMORPG: Martial Gamer》Chapter 756. Generational Grandmaster

As the old saying goes, it doesn’t matter if the martial arts practitioner is young or old, everyone has their individual areas of superiority.
Tong Yunshan was already reaching 50 years of age and was way past his prime. Furthermore, Wang Yu was also genetically blessed with extraordinary strength and speed. Although Tong Yunshan had the upper hand in terms of pure fist arts technique, he could barely hope to match Wang Yu in a test of stamina.
Fortunately, this was in-game whereby physical fitness did not matter as much. Tong Yunshan would not be able to last fifty rounds if that was indeed the case.
“You know who I am?” As he heard Tong Yunshan, Wang Yu inquired.
Wang Yu had only displayed his Taiji arts and Taiji was a common fist art that most warriors were acquainted with. Tong Yunshan could not possibly have guessed that Wang Yu belonged to the Wang family. A more likely possibility was that Wang Yu either belonged to the Yang or Chen family. If Tong Yunshan could really guess Wang Yu’s roots, that would be nothing short of incredulous.
“Of course I do.” Tong Yunshan smiled mysteriously.
“What trick did you use this time?” Wang Yu wanted to resolve this apparent mystery.
“Resemblance! You and your father look exactly the same when he was younger. I could recognise you the moment I laid my eyes on you. I already knew you were formidable and wanted to bait you into a spar,” Tong Yunshan replied.
“…” Wang Yu was speechless. This old fogey really doesn’t play by the rules…
“So who was the other expert that you were referring to?” Wang Yu curiously asked. Since Tong Yunshan had recognised him, it was obvious which was the expert Tong Yunshan previously about.
“Yes, it is your father. Thinking back on the old days, we were old rivals and were constantly fighting each other. Both sides never gave the other side an inch. After one last fateful battle, I have never recognised anyone else as a worthy rival,” Tong Yunshan recounted.
“To be honest, my father also said the same thing about you.” Wang Yu heard Tong Yunshan words and was reminded of what his father always told him.

“However, he said that I have already long surpassed him.” Wang Yu touched his chin as he pondered.
“You are still very young. If you spar with him, you will definitely not be at a disadvantage… Besides, he is after all your father. If he were to lose to you, how embarrassing would the situation be… Ha ha!” Tong Yunshan loudly chortled.
“He He.” Wang Yu rubbed his head and let out a smile. Tong Yunshan actually touched on the crux of the matter. Everyone in the martial arts scene was highly competitive… Losing to one’s son was way too shameful.
“I am still likely to lose to him now.” Tong Yunshan shook his head and lamented, “My Eight Trigram Guild has seen its fair share of glorious days. To think I am the last successor to the Eight Trigram palm arts. Furthermore, my good brother already has a son that is so .. Sigh.”
“Hey…” Wang Yu also let out a sigh. For martial artists, the customs of passing down of lineage was constantly a big headache. Wang Yu had no advice for Tong Yunshan in such a matter. Could he possibly ask Tong Yunshan to take him as a student and pass him the Eight Trigram palm arts? This was taboo and Wang Yu was not so idiotic to ask such a question.
“What do you think of my Kung Fu?”
“Master Tong’s fist arts are the best I have seen in my lifetime,” Wang Yu honestly replied.
“Do you want to learn my fist arts?” Tong Yunshan directed his question at Wang Yu.
“Master Tong…” Wang Yu did not finish his sentence and Long Chengfei came rushing towards them. He looked at Tong Yunshan deadset in his eyes, with a face full of incredulity.
Long Chengfei and Tong Yunshan were old-time buddies. Long Chengfei was even the one that introduced Tong Yunshan to the game. Even with such a close friendship, Tong Yunshan had never given in to Long Chengfei’s constant pleadings to impact his fist arts. Long Chengfei was flabbergasted this time when Tong Yunshan had voluntarily sought out someone to pass down his fist arts.
Tong Yunshan looked towards the group with Long Chengfei and said, “It is not that I am unwilling to teach you guys. The bunch of you are simply too old, and you have already previously learnt another form of Kung Fu. You guys cannot possibly learn my fist arts.”

Long Chengfei and the rest were stunned as their expressions looked sad… Indeed, Tong Yunshan really wanted to teach them but it was hard for them to change their Kung Fu. There was no way Long Chengfei and the rest of them could compare with a beautiful piece of talent like Wang Yu.
“Is this really okay?” Wang Yu was at a loss of what to say.
The Wang family head and Tong Yunshan had an amicable friendship and were likely to agree to Tong Yunshan passing down his fist arts to Wang Yu. However, the issue at hand was that the act of Wang Yu acknowledging someone outside of his family as his master would incite gossip.
Tong Yunshan beamed and replied, “I know I lack the qualifications to be your master. I am only passing down my fist arts lineage. You don’t have to acknowledge me as master.”
“But…” Wang Yu was once again momentarily stunned. It was a tradition in the martial arts scene that lineage could only be passed down from master to disciple.
There is nothing to hesitate about …” Tong Yunshan said, “I am already so old and I do not have any children or apprentices. I cannot bear to watch my ancestor’s lineage just disappear after I pass on. Let’s do away with these unnecessary traditions and formalities.”
“Master Tong!” Wang Yu rushed before Tong Yunshan and gave a deep bow saying, “I have seen my fair share of martial arts masters, but you are the only one that can claim to be a generational Grandmaster!”
“Hahaha!” Tong Yunshan roared with laughter and replied, “I simply cannot claim that title. Passing my lineage down to anyone is actually the same… Let’s meet again after a few days. I will personally guide you in the Eight Trigram arts. You must train diligently.”
“A few days?” Wang Yu wondered, “What does this mean?”
“Isn’t it your grandfather’s centurion birthday in a few days? I also received an invitation for the celebration…” Tong Yunshan answered.
“Ahhhh…” Wang Yu’s mind jolted as he recalled the important event.
Wang Yu never really paid attention to the exact dates of his grandfather’s birthday as he was too preoccupied with eating and collecting red packets.
The Wang family patriarch had three other brothers and he was the third eldest among them. Although he was not the eldest, he possessed the greatest talent and was deemed worthy of the position as family head. Wang Yu was similar in such a way as he was the most exceptional among those in the younger generation.
Not many people could live to a hundred years old. As the most outstanding and exceptional descendant, there was no reason for Wang Yu not to go back.
“Aiya, Master Tong, I really have to make a move first.” Wang Yu cupped his hands together and courteously took his leave. Long Chengfei instructed his people, “Regarding the matter with Peak of Perfection, leave the matter at that. I have other matters to attend to. I shall also take my leave.”
After he left, Wang Yu sent a message to Peak of Perfection and Mu Zi Xian, detailing the results of the discussion. Wang Yu subsequently went offline.
Tong Yunshan muttered, “This kid looked so steady but why did he suddenly look so anxious?”
As Wang Yu went offline, he hurriedly washed his face. When he walked out of the bathroom, Mu Zi Xian also came offline and asked Wang Yu, “What happened? Why are you so anxious?”
“Wife, let’s pack up and head home.”
“Home?” Mu Zi Xian trembled and replied, “Isn’t it too soon to be going home?”
Wang Yu nodded and said, “Well, in three days it is my grandfather’s hundredth birthday. I have got to make a trip back home. Furthermore, I can take this opportunity to introduce you to my family. Are you excited now?”
“Wow… This is so sudden. I have not anticipated that I would be facing such a situation.” Mu Zi Xian glanced at the foolishly adorable person. She secretly wiped the cold sweat off her palms and replied, “Come, let us go and pack the things up.”
