《MMORPG: Martial Gamer》Chapter 435. Heart Of Darkness Quest

At the thought of this, Wang Yu asked Lone Vagrant Guest, "Brother, do you wish to fall to your death or get eaten alive?"
"I do not wish for any…" Lone Vagrant Guest answered very honestly.
"Then I am sorry!" Just as Wang Yu said this, his fist landed on Lone Vagrant Guest's head and he turned into a white light instantly. That quest's dagger dropped onto the ground too.
Lone Vagrant Guest couldn't believe his eyes as he appeared at the respawn point. After three full seconds, he shouted angrily, "F*ck! Why did that son of a b*tch kill me?"
At this point, Lone Vagrant Guest received a message from Wang Yu, "Wait for me at the respawn point."
After killing Lone Vagrant Guest, the monsters had already sealed up all roads leading to the mountain. The whole sky was filled with countless flying monsters too.
Wang Yu glanced over at these monsters before jumping forward. He jumped right down the cliff.
This cliff was where the suspension bridge was at earlier on. One look down and he couldn't see the bottom. Only a magician who learnt magic flying skills would be able to survive a jump from this height. Any other player of any other job would undoubtedly die.
Of course, a gamer with teleportation skills like Wang Yu could try his luck too. It might not be a problem for him to jump to the other side. However, these monsters chasing him could fly. Whether he jumped over to the other side or not, it wouldn't make much of a difference.
Jumping down would certainly result in a different outcome. These Dusk God Eagles and Blood Desert Eagles were all formed by magic. Therefore, they were all massively bigger than those monsters at the foot of Dusk Plateau. In fact, their wings alone were about four to five metres wide.
For birds of prey like the eagles, they would need space to swoop down. The canyon which Wang Yu jumped down was merely ten metres wide. Hence, they were completely unable to hover around it. If the system was really that despicable to allow these bird monsters to hover like helicopters, Wang Yu would really rather accept his fate and die.
Fortunately, the system wasn't despicable to that kind of extent. After Wang Yu jumped down the cliff, those flying monsters lost their target. After circling for a few rounds, they flew back to the peak of the mountain.

While Wang Yu was falling off the cliff, he heaved a sigh of relief when he received the system notification that the monsters retreated.
This quest was definitely not meant to be completed by humans. With that many flying monsters chasing after the gamers, the penalty for dying was also so severe.
If any other person were to attempt this quest, Wang Yu was certain that that person would die a horrible death.
Even a Magician, who knew how to fly, might not be able to successfully escape the encirclement of so many flying monsters. After all, besides being able to hover, the speed of Magicians' flight was not impressive at all. Spring Halo was exceedingly certain about this point. Unless he was really chased and surrounded to a corner, he would never execute his flying skill. This was because he was fearful that others might shoot him down like a plane.
The scenario at the bottom of the cliff was extremely frightening. There were skeletons of the dead lying all around the place.
From the system notification, Wang Yu knew that this map was called "Lane of Bone Burying".
Looking at the ground full of bones, Wang Yu was afraid that the system might pull out some tricks up their sleeves again. Without wasting another second, Wang Yu started running out of this place. When he arrived back at the familiar Dusk Mountain Range, he finally felt safe.
Half an hour later, Wang Yu finally arrived back at Twilight City being more scared than hurt. Lone Vagrant Guest had already been waiting for quite some time now.
"Why did you take so long to come back? Where is the dagger?" Lone Vagrant Guest asked in an extremely impatient tone.
Nobody would be pleased after being killed just like that.
Wang Yu took out the dagger and said, "I had to get rid of all those monsters."
"Get rid of those monsters?"
Lone Vagrant Guest was stunned for the moment when he heard that.
After a long pause, Lone Vagrant Guest finally reacted, "You're saying that you managed to get rid of all those flying monsters? How did you do it?"
Because of the panicky circumstance earlier, Lone Vagrant Guest didn't really count how many flying monsters were in the sky. However, he did see a sky full of those monsters. He knew that there were at least a few thousand of them.

All those flying monsters were all extremely swiftly and while they might not be the most powerful, they had always been the most troublesome to deal with. With over a thousand of those monsters chasing him, Lone Vagrant Guest was convinced that Wang Yu would be killed by them. Who knew that Wang Yu actually survive?
This fella's ability to escape was truly frightening.
Wang Yu replied honestly, "I jumped down the cliff where they couldn't fly down…"
"Oh oh oh!" Lone Vagrant Guest suddenly recalled Wang Yu asking how he would rather die. Now he knew that Wang Yu was already considering the option of jumping down the cliff at that point in time.
Lone Vagrant Guest had witnessed how Wang Yu could ascend a cliff. Therefore, he knew that Wang Yu had a much higher chance of survival if he jumped down the cliff.
Even so, Lone Vagrant Guest still felt that Wang Yu was an extremely unique and weird person who never followed any rules or standard procedure to do anything.
"What about that Heart of Darkness? Give it to me too…" Lone Vagrant Guest exchanged a few glances with Wang Yu before asking for it.
"Heart of Darkness?" Wang Yu asked, "Don't you only want the dagger?"
Wang Yu was only chased after by so many flying monsters because of this Heart of Darkness. Naturally, he was not going to give this item away so easily.
Lone Vagrant Guest replied, "The Heart of Darkness is also my Quest Good."
Wang Yu responded, "We didn't agree to anything about the Heart of Darkness in the contract. Oh yes, how did you find out about this Heart of Darkness?"
Wang Yu was not an idiot. He wouldn't suspect anything if Lone Vagrant Guest didn't mention anything about the Heart of Darkness. Now that he mentioned it, Wang Yu immediately reacted to it. This item was picked up by him and the name was only revealed after accepting the compulsory quest. Since Lone Vagrant Guest didn't accept any quest like that, how did he know about the name of the Heart of Darkness?
Furthermore, Wang Yu suddenly recalled the sudden appearance of Lone Vagrant Guest while he was training. Moreover, given Lone Vagrant Guest's familiarity with the back of the mountain, Wang Yu suddenly felt that he was tricked by this small kid.
Wang Yu's guest wasn't wrong. Lone Vagrant Guest's ultimate goal was the Heart of Darkness.
The "Heart of Darkness" quest was an extremely hidden quest that a level 25 assassin could unlock from assassin advisor by paying a sum of money. Since the course of this quest was extremely complicated, it was basically impossible to be completed at this point in time.
Furthermore, the penalty for failing to complete this quest was simply too severe. The reward for completion was also unknown, therefore, even an expert assassin like Darknorth Fisher would feel powerless and incompetent to complete this task.
The first quest of the Heart of Darkness was to find the Dagger of Seal used to seal the Heart of Darkness. Just this search for the dagger alone proved to be extremely difficult for many people.
Lone Vagrant Guest unintentionally bumped into this NPC and after accepting the dagger quest, he realised that this NPC was also the NPC for the Heart of Darkness quest.
Initially, when Lone Vagrant Guest found Wang Yu, he never thought about the Heart of Darkness. He only wanted to use Wang Yu to open a path for him on the suspension bridge by luring the monsters away. After that, he was planning to retrieve the dagger himself. Who knew that Wang Yu was actually that strong and was also a rogue player. That was when Lone Vagrant Guest decided to make use of Wang Yu for the Heart of Darkness quest too.
Initially, Lone Vagrant Guest didn't know that this Heart of Darkness could result in the encirclement of this many monsters. After hearing that Wang Yu made it out alive, his initial idea of making use of Wang Yu came back. He wanted to cheat Wang Yu to give him the Heart of Darkness. However, what he didn't expect was the fact that even a Pugilist could accept a quest meant for an Assassin.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
