《Taming Master》Chapter 585: Soldier's Counterattack 1

The mistake of Jonas was critical.
Being an assault general, he died without even taking a kill, and he hadn’t caused any damage to the opponent.
It wasn’t like he hadn’t done any damage.
However, the defensive general of the opponent got his vitality restored from the medical aide, just before the battle was over.
But in contrast to the general mood of the whole Celestial camp, Ian’s expression hadn’t changed.
‘Surely that ally of mine, Jonas, was an idiot, but surely the other ones on the other side will make mistakes too.’
Of all the content that had existed so far, the rules of the battlefields of the God’s Piece Board were very complex to even place them on one’s fingers.
And this was the first battle that had been generated since the new content had been created.
This wasn’t the type of content that all the rankers could get into their heads.
Most of the rankers were all body and no brain.
Ian calmly looked at the battlefield and thought to himself.
‘This might be an opportunity for me.’
Ian was a member of the Celestial army, which meant that winning the Celestial army was a good thing.
But there was something more important than just the camp winning, and that was his public value.
No matter how much they win, if they died without fighting, then winning made no sense.
‘The Assault Captain on the left knew, and their attacks will all head that way.’
Jonas, who was just out of the game, was positioned at the center.
The powerful position of the Assault Captain had disappeared. The Devil camp will surely focus their attacks in that spot.
And naturally, Ian was going to be out of focus.
‘If I wait, then chances will surely come!’
Ian continued to stimulate the flow of the battle in his head.
Unlike Jonas, who knew the game rules for a long time, things might be a little different for Ian.
Though it surely was the first time for Ian to be on such a battlefield, by watching the movements of the previous user, he began to adapt to the battlefield.
If he had no ideas in his head when his turn came, he wouldn’t be able to show his best performance.
As time passed, another 10 turns passed between the Celestial and the Devils.
[The battle is over.]
[The ‘Celestial’ camp has won!]
[The soldiers on the ‘Devil army’ camp will be summoned outside the battlefield.]
[‘Devil’ camp has won!]
[‘Celestial’ camp has won!]

The battle was flowing just as Ian expected.
‘Fortunately, there are a few idiots in the Devil camp.’
Like Jonas, who was trying to hit the healer, one of the Assault Captains of the Devil side died in vain.
Whenever they saw the chance to attack the High General of the army, they would jump in as if they were possessed.
And the result was, of course, defeat.
[The ‘Celestial’ camp has won!]
[The Assault Captain of the Devil Army has been defeated.]
Some of the users on the Devil camp were more horrible than Jonas.
Not just the High General, but the opponent had to deal with two Medical Aides behind him too.
And then the score…
-Battle Status
*Celestial
Kill Points: 260
Survival status: High General 1, General 2, Special Forces 1, Officers 6 and Soldier 4
Remarks: 1 Double Kill
*Devil
Kill Points: 310
Survival status: High General 1, General 3, Special Forces 1, Officers 5 and Soldiers 5
Remarks: None
The Devils were dominating but not high enough to be overwhelming.
Two consecutive kills in one turn, even though it was a good fight, the Assault Captain of the enemy was out.
And the funniest thing was that no one had even attacked Ian till then.
“Hmph…”
Ian’s head turned from one side to another, looking at his allies and the enemy camp.
‘Hu, I guess it is time for my turn…’
And the moment Ian’s mumbling could even end…
Tring-!
[The turn is given to the ‘Celestial’ camp.]
[The turn is for the Soldier of the Celestial camp, User ‘Ian’].
The turn had come for Ian who was waiting.
* * *
‘Why is he just a regular Soldier?’
After seeing the message in front of him, Limlong wasn’t anything less than flustered.
Ian, whom he was assuming to be in the position of a General, wasn’t given the General position but was in the Soldier position instead.
‘Am I supposed to be… relieved?’
Limlong was one of the people who knew Ian better than anyone else.
Not only did he face Ian’s swords directly, but it was because he had a keen eye on him.
More than just what he could see, Limlong had excellent gaming skills and combat, and that was why he knew Ian’s skills well.
‘I don’t know why he is a Soldier but…’
Limlong, who saw Ian being called for the first time, thought that Ian still hadn’t joined the battlefield.
However, as soon as he realized that he was a Soldier, he thought that Ian had no choice but to be the target of killings.

‘I need to get rid of that jerk first.’
Limlong turned his gaze toward Ian.
Limlong, the Assault General of the Devil camp.
As the turn passed, the next turn would be going to Ian.
‘Let’s see. I can’t reach him with one. I need two spaces.’
Limlong, who escaped the Defensive Captain’s movement and defeated the Aide of the Celestial army, was deep inside the other side of the board.
It wasn’t possible for him to reach Ian who was at the forefront with just simple movements, but he would have to kill him after two turns.
And in that two turns, no matter how great Ian was, there was no way he could be promoted to a higher position.
3 kills were needed for one to become an officer but not a general. With just two turns ahead, that situation was impossible.
But it didn’t take long for Limlong to realize that he was wrong.
* * *
When the turns came, the time given for the users was just 10 seconds.
It was obvious that time played a role when it came to strategizing and counting cases.
Therefore, most users on the battlefield were taking full advantage of the 10 seconds time for choosing the order.
However, it was different for Ian.
[The Soldier of Celestial Camp user ‘Ian’ moves.]
Upon seeing the message that his turn had come, Ian’s words started to flow.
“What? Where is he going to go?”
Ian moved two steps forward.
The people who saw that couldn’t help but be dumbfounded.
The best action for a weak Soldier on the battle was to choose the defensive mode as early as possible, and in fact, all the Soldiers, who had been given a turn, did the same.
“Crazy! Not taking the defensive mode… he isn’t even in the General position!”
“Right. If he moves forward like that, he’ll just be crushed.”
As explained before, the distance between the opponent Soldier was just three steps.
The spaces that a Soldier could move was 2.
So if Ian went two spaces forward, it was like feeding the Devil camp soldiers.
And in the defensive mode, even without a stat bonus, they would be given a round start.
“Ha, that isn’t the problem, he’ll have to withstand the first attack.”
“Maybe he won’t last? Everyone is of the same rank… How do you even win against an attack that comes in with the winning buff? Even if he is also going against a Soldier.”
But the very next moment, all the users were further astounded.
Ian moved one space forward, and he moved diagonally for his second move.
“…!”
The side spot where Ian had moved to was toward the cavalry user of the Devil camp.
“Wah, what kind of confidence does he have?”
“No. that’s better than moving two spaces forward.”
“How so?”
“Nothing can be done when in a defensive mode, it’s better to get the winning buff and attack an officer.”
“Then, will he be able to cover the rank differences?”
“Compensating for the rank difference is going to be tough… but making him lose some strength is a good thing, I guess.”
“That is true but…”
The users, who weren’t able to participate in the battle, were looking at the field with excitement.
Within a very normal going game, a funny user had appeared.
After a while…
[The user ‘Ian’ of the Celestial camp attacked the user ‘Makaron’ of the Devil camp.]
[The battle between the user ‘Ian’ and ‘Makaron’ begins.]
The messages emerged, and the battle began.
[Since you have launched the first attack, all of your combat stats are increased by 15%.]
Ian’s form was summoned onto the battlefield with the buff trigger.
Wheeing-!
On the other side of the field, the Asmodian user, Makaron, was summoned.
‘Huhu, should I be thankful? For coming all the way here and giving me kill points.’
When the eyes of Ian and Makaron met, both of them smiled.
For the opponent, Ian just made a dumb decision.
No matter what buff he was given, the stat bonus difference between a Soldier and an Officer position was 35 percent.
Even with a 15 percent buff, there was still a huge difference of 20 percent.
In addition, Makaron already had 1 kill.
And if he killed Ian, having 2 kills, he could get promoted to the General position.
Of course, Ian knew that.
Ian smiled, which made it look like a provocation.
“Well. Kill point one…”
“Hmm?”
“I’m attacking your space because you look like the weakest one.”
While looking at the sneaky smile on Ian’s face, Makaron could feel the temperature rising.
“…!”
But at that very moment, Makaron quickly cooled his temper and spoke to Ian, “Yeah, I’ll let you know what I am made of right away.”
After seeing that, Ian felt a bit bad.
‘Tch, the taunt didn’t work on him.’
Since they were all rankers of the world, their mentality was stronger than expected.
But even then, Ian had plenty of chances.
‘It’s just the mind. No matter how strong you are, you will lose your cool after a few hits. There is no such thing as stability.’
That wasn’t a groundless statement.
“Huhu.”
Ian was certain that the Asmodian user in front of him could be tackled with that.

*Note: This story is on hiatus. I intend to pick it up again, but the mood of my life has shifted for the time being and I'm going to be working on a side project for a bit.* What would you give to live the life of your dreams? What kind of deal would you make? And when you were there, forced to stare your dreams in the eye and live them every day, how long would it be... before they broke you? Author's note: This is my first excursion outside the realm of villain fan fiction and I welcome feedback. The thing I've loved most about RRL so far is the potential for writing to be an interactive experience with excited readers. That said, also, the primary genre this is intended for is the blossoming realm of LitRPG. Namely, a slice of life tale in the manner of Grimgar or Re:Zero. So, likewise, I don't expect there will ever be a clear beginning-middle-and-end type of pattern to this story. It will likewise always be a bit more of a reactionary, exploratory novel into realms unknown - much like the 1800 travel-novel theme used by Jules Verne. Or, at least, that is my ambition.

We fought and bled for the adults, the grown men and women who preached of us being their future, preached us of the freedom from tyranny and slavery; no wonder why we hated them so.
