《World of Experts 》Chapter 8: Problem in the Village (2)

From the distance, Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao were still celebrating joyously in the dim light of night.
The food in Twin Dragons Village’s stock had dropped into 130, and only 88 of the water was left. All the four soldiers who went out with them had their level raised to level 3. With the bonus of Shi Hao’s SS level skill Soul of the Warrior, the four of them could kill the tiger without any injury as long as they cooperated properly. They were very competent in hunting and obtaining water.
At this point, Shi Hao finally felt at ease. His Soul of Warrior has a wide range of functions, which could be considered as full-grade cheat. As long as these four soldiers have enough ability, Shi Hao need not to keep following after them.
Feng Tianhao also felt at ease. He didn’t have to give his experience to the soldiers anymore, for which might hinder his precious time to level himself up. He was the first person worthy of military strength in Twin Dragons Village. His next mission was to eliminate the bandits. Only he and Shi Hao would be able to do it.
It could be said that this mission of eliminating the bandits was very important.
After the construction of the village, the system gave the village unconditional protection for five days. Once the time has passed, the bandits nearby will unite to attack the village under the system’s guidance. Therefore, it would be better for them to take advantage of this period of time to consume some of their strength.
Of course, someone might ask, bandits were enemies which could regenerate by the game’s system. Won’t they come back again the next day after they died? When will they even finish killing all of the bandits? What about their strength consumption?
These were true, but they were general conditions.
If someone took away firewood from under the cauldron and immediately destroyed the enemies’ base where they could regenerate, the enemies won’t regenerate anymore. But this was the way of killing the chicken to get a stone, which wasn’t recommended. If not for Twin Dragons Village’s limited strength and insufficient manpower, Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao wouldn’t have done this. If they had seized the surrounding enemies’ base, where should they go to level up later?
Wang Fu who came up from the other side certainly understood this. He was somewhat hesitant, so he said, “Village chiefs, this might be due to short-term effect caused by the sudden increase in reputation which led to the total of 58 refugees showing up today. Among them, only 10 are eligible for the soldier’s selection criteria. They could go out to temper themselves with the team after they are armed. The rest of the refugees will be arranged later. As for the mission of eliminating the bandits, I’ll have to trouble the chiefs. Our abilities are limited, so we can’t help much.”

Broadly speaking, Wang Fu’s refined way of handling things was pretty good. Not only did he do everything in order on behalf of Shi Hao, he also spoke very courteously and properly.
Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao were naturally very satisfied. Still, they have no time to lose about eliminating the bandits. They took advantage of the dim light of night and set off quietly.
Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao arrived at a wild mountain forest.
“Careful! There’s someone ahead.” After exploring in the mountain forest for a long time, Feng Tianhao who had sharp senses suddenly noticed the strange movement ahead. He carefully took a closer look and saw a group of bandits gathering together.
The realism of this game was pretty good. There wasn’t any function to let the player immediately see the other player’s level. The prediction of the others’ level depended on one’s ability to discern. If they guessed right, then that’s good, and vice versa. Because of this, Wu Batian who liked to play dumb miscalculated Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao’s level, thus suffered such a tragic defeat last time. If not, he wouldn’t have his fighter subordinate to cover him so he could take to his heels instead of foolishly letting Feng Tianhao shoot the fighter.
In comparison, Shi Hao was much more cautious. If they can’t see the enemies’ level, they shouldn’t move around recklessly. Since the enemies were in the light and they were in the dark, they could observe them stealthily.
After a long time has passed, only a bandit was left alone.
Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao approached him silently. With two thrusts on the back, the bandit had turned into a ghost before he could shout.
“S***! Thanks to him, we had to keep watch for so long. Turns out he’s just trash.” Shi Hao muttered to himself. The bandit’s Defense was only 15 points. Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao’s Attack had become 27.5 and 38.5 respectively after the bonus. Shi Hao saying that the bandit was a trash wasn’t wrong.
“Don’t be so careless. This bandit might have a high Attack.” Feng Tianhao knitted his eyebrows, reminding Shi Hao to be more cautious.
In fact, Feng Tianhao’s cautiousness was natural.
Bandits’ traits were that they had high Attack and low Defense. The bandit who had just died has 15 Defense points, but has 30 Attack points! Although 30 Attack points wasn’t enough to injure Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao, the bandits have a leader. Who could guess how much the leader’s Attack would be?
Attention! The bandits and their leader were level 5 monsters. But the leader was a level 5 elite monster while the bandits were only level 5 ordinary monsters. The leader’s Attack was 45 and his Defense was 25. To put it simply, if the bandits’ leader stabbed Feng Tianhao twice, he’ll be locked up in the game’s prison for three days.

Shi Hao mumbled again, “Fine, I know. It won’t hurt to be more cautious.”
Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao continued their work.
Before long, Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao had killed all the bandits. They got some copper coins from the bandits. Though it wasn’t much, it was better than nothing.
By this time, Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao had felt somewhat tired. They intend to go back to the village to have a rest.
This time, Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao didn’t take down the bandits’ base. That was because they didn’t get to find the bandits’ leader. They assumed that the leader might have been out on patrol. Under this circumstance, they didn’t dare to demolish the bandits’ base rashly. If by any chance the leader returned with a dumpling on his hands while they were demolishing the base, wouldn’t that mean they were performing ‘Huan Le Song’? [TN: Huan Le Song is a Chinese drama.]
However, it seemed that Shi Hao and Feng Tianhao had miscalculated. The bandits’ leader had returned since long ago!
“It felt good for you two after killing a lot of my subordinates, didn’t you?” A bulky figure slowly came out from the darkness. He was obviously the bandits’ leader.
Feng Tianhao frowned as he tightened the grip on his iron sword. He said, “Not at all! Because you’re not dead yet.”
Even though the bandits’ leader combat strength wasn’t as good as Red Tiger King, he was clearly smarter than the tiger. All in all, Red Tiger King was a boss whose mind had been intentionally ‘cut off’ by the system to make it convenient for the novice crusaders.
Actually, the leader had seen the two after he returned and had been secretly observing them since. He had calculated carefully. These two guys before his eyes had a high Attack, especially the man named Blowing Wind Left A Scar with tall stature. He could kill his subordinates with a single swipe.
It could be said that Blowing Wind Left A Scar was the greatest threat for him.
The leader immediately charged towards Feng Tianhao, trying to hit him with his sword. Noticing this, the courageous Shi Hao reacted quickly. He promptly took the initiative to block the blow for Feng Tianhao.
Bang! Shi Hao lost 7.5 HP. Shi Hao only had 27.5 HP in total! If this kept on, Shi Hao would be finished off with four blows!
“F*ck! This guy is pretty strong.” Shi Hao was surprised. Feng Tianhao hurriedly made a thrust at the leader with his sword. But the leader responded quickly. He took a few steps back to dodge the attack.
“What should we do?” Although Shi Hao didn’t have ‘stage fright’, he couldn’t think of a better way to deal with this situation at this moment. These days, Shi Hao killed the monsters using the crushing blow of his strength, so there shouldn’t be a technical difficulty with his skill. Think about it, the monsters he ran into won’t even be able to break through his Defense. Would he even pay attention to his skill while killing the monsters?
It could be said that Shi Hao had always ignored the operating technique of hand-to-hand combat. Nevertheless, he’ll be a leader in the future. He might not need to engage in hand-to-hand combat even though he was a fighter who depended on melee to fight.
Now, it was Feng Tianhao’s turn to shine.
Going into details, Feng Tianhao has been a fitness expert and martial arts enthusiast since young. He had tough muscles, and his Kung Fu wasn’t just boasting.
Feng Tianhao immediately knew that Shi Hao had just lost his HP just by a look. He could only make a mistake once in front of the bandits’ leader. He’ll get killed if he did it for the second time.
“You’ve sought your own demise!” Seeing Feng Tianhao running over him, the bandits’ leader rushed forward while brandishing his large sword. The sword was big and sturdy, no wonder he had such a high Attack.
Noticing this, Feng Tianhao only swung his sword slightly to stop the thick iron sword’s blow. He took a large stride and dodged aside and seized the opportunity to thrust his sword.
“Ah!” The bandits’ leader lost half of his HP. Though a leader, he was still a bandit, after all. His distinguishing traits were still high Attack and low Defense. As a matter of fact, the leader only has 25 Defense points. Compared with Feng Tianhao’s Attack which reached up to 38.5 points, it wasn’t enough at all.
“I’ll fight to the death!” The leader realized that he was about to get killed, but he still wanted to fight desperately to get rid of Blowing Wind Left A Scar. No matter what, he had to make him a scapegoat together with him.
However, Feng Tianhao laughed.
Like mentoned before, Feng Tianhao has learnt martial arts before. Taekwondo, Jeet Kune Do, Tai Chi, Shaolin boxing, and so on. Fighting with him one-on-one already meant that the leader was faced with imminent death, yet he still thought of making Feng Tianhao a scapegoat. Feng Tianhao laughed, he really had to laugh.
Feng Tianhao smiled as he backhanded the bandits’ leader with his sword in passing. His blow had quite the style of a sword master, even though he was still somewhat inexperienced.
“I’m not reconciled at all!” The bandit leader’s shout could be heard before he died.
“Not reconciled my ass!” With scornful eyes, Shi Hao walked forward and kicked the corpse of the bandits’ leader. He then casually felt out and took out a ‘small treasure’.

The Laptop Hero (Portal/Isekai LitRPG)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - April 2022 Silas got summoned to another world—by a group of kids attending magic school who seemed rather unhappy with the results of their ritual. After a brief glimpse of his summoners Silas woke in the town dump. Unable to speak the local language, a misunderstanding escalated and before long Silas wound up in a jail cell, the locals having confiscated all his worldly possessions aside from his laptop, which had formed some strange bond with him. Now he can summon his laptop at will, and he can view his Status, level up, and gain powerful skills and magic as if he were some character in a video game, which is great and everything, but all Silas really wants to do is sit in a dark room and play games on his laptop. Only, life isn't a game, and Silas needs to get his act together because everyone else is playing for keeps. Or does he? Maybe for Silas life is just one big game now, with everyone else stuck playing by his rules. Assorted Disclaimers, in no particular order: I am only posting this on RoyalRoad.com, so if you find my story elsewhere it was not posted by me. Please do let me know! While I do consider this a progression fantasy, and have tagged it as such, Silas's Status improvements will not necessarily proceed in a linear fashion. His RPG stats will have ups and downs, exploits and nerfs, periods of growth and stagnation. Such is the life of a gamer, to be held under the thumb of the all powerful devs, or in this case a certain goddess devoted to the idea of Balance. SIlas himself should learn and grow, improving and progressing in areas where he struggles, or rather, to show such is my goal. The story is told from multiple points of view. While other PoVs will come and go, Silas shall remain the only lead character. The world Silas finds himself on is not a nice place. Expect him to encounter gore and traumatizing content and bad people who do bad things for selfish (or possibly noble) reasons from time to time. Some characters will use profanity, however due to cultural differences the curse words used will differ from those used in our corner of reality, so I'm not including the profanity content warning. Silas himself isn't one for foul language. No explicit sexual content here. This novel is intended for mature readers, however, and will include mature topics, including, but not limited to, sex, violence, death, and taxes. No harem. Might be an eventual romantic interest, possibly even some competitive jealousy, yet as his story begins Silas is too overwhelmed with other concerns to consider long term plans. Musophobics might want to steer clear of this story. Same goes for turophobics. You have been warned. Keep in mind, however, if my other disclaimers didn't make this clear, I only have the faintest of outlines at the moment. This story will take me where it will. My goal with this story is to write it to the end, something of a long-term writing exercise, with the hope others might take an interest in my work and encourage me to keep at it. I've started a number of works before, even finished a few, but this is the first time I've shared any work in a public forum. My temporary cover was made by me, in GIMP using public domain images. If you can do better I'll happily accept your submission and give credit for your work here!
