《Netheril’s Glory 》Chapter 52: McNeesey's last battle.

"Die………."
As McNeesey's distorted roar echoed throughout the swampy forest, the ground started to tremble and shatter, and light of emerald green energy came out from under the ground. The giant formed with vines raised its giant hand high as if it wants to hold the sun. Then the giant hand, while making a whistling sound, slammed down at the insignificant ants on the ground.
The moment the giant hand touched the ground, the whole world seemed to be quieted down, as the sound reached such a level that no other sound could be heard.
Those enemies who were rushing with excitement, expecting a swift victory, didn't have time to stop their charge. And facing the giant vine hand bursting with dazzling green lights, they were like squirrels in front of a landslide. There was no way for them to hide, no way to avoid. There was absolutely no way to escape! Those proud and arrogant trainee-level professionals' trump cards were nothing but a bunch of worthless jokes in front of this unmatched catastrophe-level power. And in the end, they could only face this blow with panic and despair, like a newborn baby facing an elephant!
"Instant kills! Unreasonable massacre!"
A massive amount of dust erupted from the area that was hit by the giant hand and formed a huge mushroom cloud. The violent wind set off by the swipe alone made Punk grasp the ground with Mage's hands so as not to be blown away with it. Two loyal warrior guards grabbed the princess, who was almost blown away. And the long swords that the guards inserted deeply into the ground to support themselves started to make creaking noises.
The magnificent emerald green energy swept across the forest, and the stinky mud was engulfed in this energy and spread out like ordinary waves, and the unlucky pursuing team, who faced the full brunt of this attack, even before the actual hand landed, their bodies were already turned into meat paste by the powerful wind.
This was the power of a full blow from an official-level powerhouse! It was a disastrous existence that the ants below the official level could never even fathom. Now the 20 meters deep, huge crater on the ground was telling these ordinary ignorant creatures what the meaning of "ignoring all defenses below the official level" actually was, and the absolute gap between their existence.

This irresistible tyrannical force was telling everyone that even if an official-level powerhouse was fatally wounded and already close to death, their absolute majesty was not something that mear ants could easily provoke!
Punk carefully felt the still remaining tide of the calmed but unabated energy. Since the air in the radius of several hundred meters around the attack center was thrown away by the pressure, it became an absolute vacuum zone for a short time. Even though the air has now been filled back, Punk still felt a bit of breathlessness!
"This is the power of the official level! What an unimaginable crushing power!"
Punk's fingers trembled slightly, not because he was scared by this catastrophe-level power, nor was it because he was shocked by the aftermath, but...the excitement, excitement for such power, and the Curiosity for knowledge!
One must know that the current Punk has reached the ninth level, and the road to an official level was already in his sight. Now that he had seen the majesty and grandeur of that level, even Punk's always unwavering heart could not help but start to get excited and look forward to that day!
"But"
The magical brilliance in Punk's pupils swirled like two azure blue full moons; he looked in the direction of McNeesey and sneered.
"Respected Mage McNeesey, I'm afraid, just now, that was already your...... final flash before extinguishing forever!"
After completing the last attack of his life, the vine giant, which was still as green as sapphire just a few seconds ago, started to wither at a speed visible to the naked eye. And In less than a minute, the vine giant, who originally stood like a pillar between the sky and the earth, decayed like ice cream in the summer's noon, large pieces of gray and dry bark peeled off from each vines, and then disappeared with the slight breeze into the dim sunset...
Mage McNeesey fell from the vine giant's withered head and smashed like a tattered puppet on the muddy ground. There was no sound, but this scene still shocked the heart of everyone present.
"Uncle McNeesey! What's wrong with you."

Princess Nesa didn't pay attention to her messy clothes and armors that had been stained with mud and hurried to McNeesey, who was now like a shriveled old man hanging by a thread.
Punk and the remaining two fighters also rushed to McNeesey's side.
This official-level Mage, at present, no longer had the magnificence of the person who gave a speech at the town Square of Konola. His dry and chapped body looks more like a piece of old rotten wood. The emerald green seedling that was originally wrapped around the broken wound had also disappeared, but now even without the protection of the green seedling, not a drop of blood came out of his torn injury.
Looking at McNeesey, who was dying in front of him, Punk's had a neutral expression, but his mood was a bit complicated. This official-level powerhouse, who was once aloof and looked up by countless professionals and nobles, was about to die in the swamp covered with mud, which was almost no different from those numerous wild beasts who died and sunk beneath this mud............
"Cough... Cough…"
McNeesey coughed heavily from his dry throat. He could no longer say anything clearly, but he still tried his best to take out an old parchment from his tattered robe... …
The yellowed parchment paper was handed to Punk with a shaking palm.
"Take... this, the ring in my hand... it's yours..."
Punk was taken aback for a moment, but he still took the parchment from McNeesey's hand. Punk could feel that the inconspicuous ring on McNeesey's left hand was sealed by a powerful restriction, and if there was no unlocking instruction from him, then only someone more powerful than McNeesey would be able to crack it.
After giving the shabby parchment, McNeesey didn't say anything else to the somewhat stunned Punk, And he turned his head toward the princess with all his strength. Because of his movement, a dry, crunching sound came from his exposed spine.
"Nesa..."
McNeesey stretched out his spindly shaking arm and stroked Princess Nesa's face, which gave the helpless young girl a little warmth.
"You have the same eyes as your mother.................. very beautiful............ Ever since she became the Queen of the Camos Kingdom............ I have never seen her big bright eyes again............."
A drop of muddy tears dripped from the corners of McNeesey's cracked eyes, and his hoarse voice choked up.
"That day... it was the first time she came to me after she became a queen... She begged me to help you to survive... I, how could I not agree?"
McNeesey started to cry like a child:
"We two have been together since we were young............ I said............ I promised her that I would give her everything she wants...... But it was the first time she asked me for anything."
"Okay... Uncle McNeesey, don't talk... Please don't talk."
Princess Nesa's tears rolled down to McNeesey's grayed face. Even though she kept wiping away the tears with her hands, her tears still drenched her collar.
"No... I want to say... I have loved Wei Liya all my life, even when she... She married King Camos for the survival of her family, I... I only hoped for her happiness and never blamed or shamed her... you as her daughter...for me...that is! Like.. My! Daughter! So...Nesa, you...must... live a happy and stable life............and keep my and Wei Liya's love alive."
After speaking the last few words, McNeesey's pupils dilated as if he wanted to see princess Nesa's face one last time. Then... finally, he reluctantly closed his eyes. His body lost all power, and the last bit of magical brilliance in his eyes dimmed. His half-body and the arm that was holding Princess Nesa tightly slowly shattered into a handful of dust and flew away with the wind...
"...It was great to fall in love with Wei Liya."
The last sunlight swept across the field on the open and smudge forest, but only four people remained in the dim sunlight! The silent dark night fell as always, but this time, in this night, Princess Nesa's heart ranching cry could be heard for a long time............

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
