《Netheril’s Glory 》Chapter 14: Konola City.

Konola City was located in the border area of the Kingdom of Camos. Mountains surrounded it to the west, and to the east, there was the Aigma Wasteland. This was the wasteland, Punk and Kane passed through to come here.
Some canals were flowing through this City, which made transportation and freight very Convenient. And because of all these, it could be said that the Konola City had a geographically advantageous location, which was hard to attack but easy to defend.
Therefore, it was a very strategic location. Although most of the Kingdom of Camos was barren and has not had a war for many years, But in recent years, the relationship with the kingdom of Dylan was becoming tense, and Konola city was at the junction with the kingdom of Dylan to the south, so now there were many troops in Konola city.
Punk and Kane were walking towards the city gate together. A big crimson flag was hanging above the entrance, and there was a rather abstract picture of a griffin in that flag. The flag was fluttering in the wind, which looked very imposing.
The 20-meter-high city wall was made of large granite blocks; there were many deep scratches in the wall that looked like caused by sharp weapons, and together with the weathered stone blocks, it looked like something that was trying to tell a story.
Some commoners and merchants lined up to the city gate's entrance as the soldiers stopped them for inspection. The soldiers were all very muscular and ferocious-looking. They unabashedly demanded bribes from those who wanted to enter the City. An old man in shabby clothes failed to pay enough bribe to satisfy the guard,
so the guards pushed the old man to the ground and kicked him while cursing at him.
There was another smaller side door beside the city wall's main gate, which seems to be for the nobles and professionals to enter and exit. Compared with the main door's hustle and bustle, the side door looks much quieter, and ordinary poor people were far from there. There was only an older man dressed as a warrior sitting on a wooden chair, who appeared to be the side door's gatekeeper.

Punk made a quick probe and found that the older man who was drinking wine with small sips was a level 1 apprentice warrior. And considering his age, he had no chance of promotion to a higher level.
"This father doesn't want to line up like these commoners; now this father wants to go into the city quickly and find a place to have a meal; let us go in from there, that old man wouldn't dare to stop this father."
Kane pointed his finger at the side door, and said to Punk.
Punk actually had the same idea in his mind, so he walked to the side door while holding his staff.
Sensing someone was approaching, The old man raised his head while taking another sip from his cup; But when he saw that one man dressed as a mage and another as a knight approaching, he stood up quickly and took out a piece of parchment from his arms, and stood in the middle of the door.
After seeing his action, Punk's face became gloomy. From the old man's posture, it looked as if he wanted some benefits from them. But, Punk now only had five gold coins, although one gold coin was considered half a year's expense for ordinary families; still, it could be said Punk was very poor. And because Punk wanted to learn high-level information and magic knowledge as soon as possible, he didn't really want to waste money for the commission before even entering the City.
"If that old man dares to ask money from this father, This father will let him have the taste of my lance"! Kane next to him was even more indignant.
The amount of money on Kane was so little that he was practically a beggar, and the one-week long journey turned this impatient guy into an active volcano.
And after all that, their destination was blocked by a greedy guard; anyone would have the urge to beat him, let alone this seemingly impulsive knight.
But Punk wasn't sure if that was really the case. After all, he and Kane are both Level 4 professionals (Note: Upgraded while travelling; upgrade is still very fast in the early stages). And it was very unwise to offend two Level 4 professionals just for a little money. So Punk was pretty sure an old fox like this guard knew this.

Sure enough, the old man did not ask for money like the soldier at the gate. He just requested Punk and Kane to register their profession and level. He didn't even ask about their names.
When he noticed that Punk and Kane, who was only about fifteen years old, but already Level 4 professional, the old man almost dropped all the parchments on the ground in shock.
Seeing the old man's unbelievable expression, Kane triumphantly released his peak apprentice-level aura and strode into the city gate while deliberately creating ringing noise from his armor, Completely disregarding Punk's contemptuous gaze.
Entering the City, Punk saw a scene of a small City with medieval characteristics. As a heavily militarized city, the roads were paved with gravel to facilitate the deployment of a large number of troops.
But because of the highly humid air in the tender season, little mosses grew on the side of the stone road, which added A lot of green to the City of Konola.
Just after entering the City, there was a small marketplace. There were many kinds of shops, some of them had a large wooden sign with shop names written in large letters above their roof; usually, the owner's name plus the items they sell were written in them, such as Sibak's clothing store, Brother Hu's fresh meat shop, etc.
Many merchants who had not rented a shop also set up stalls on the side of the road to sell their products to the passers-by. Although the distribution of various shops was chaotic, it still gave people a feeling of prosperity.
"I say, brother mage, what are your plans next?" Kane patted Punk on the shoulder, looking like "iron buddies" who hide nothing from each other, but Punk stepped away,
"What are your plans?"
Punk didn't answer, but he asked Kane back.
"I, this father, will go to the Adventurer's Guild and start a super-awesome but filled with danger adventure of great knight Kane."
After saying this, he turned and walked into the lively crowd,
"But first, I will reward myself with a big meal."
"Then, goodbye,"
Saying this, Punk turned and walked into a nearby deserted street.
"Goodbye~~"
After Kane waved his hand casually without looking back, he began to bargain with a food vendor owner happily.
----------------
Punk was actually very happy to part ways with Kane, because Kane might look like a country bumpkin, who was carefree with a sunny smile on his face, but in actuality, he was an intelligent and cold-blooded person.
Punk was pretty accurate while judging people's character, especially for people like Kane, who was made with the same clay as himself. Although you didn't have to worry about your teammate being stupid when working with this kind of person, and cooperation would also be perfect in terms of efficiency, but you had to guard against each other in the process; otherwise, as long as there was enough benefit, these two people, who lived and died like good brothers until the last second, would happily pierce each other's heart with a knife in the next second.
So Punk was more willing to cooperate with people from the good lawful camp.
After all, as long as you were good at behaving hypocritically, you didn't have to worry about being stabbed in the back by your teammates. And as an added bonus, at life-threatening moments, those "righteous heroes" would also give up their lives for justice and the right cause, which could be said to be the highest quality meat shield.
Punk was now heading straight toward a very eye-catching building with a very high spire which was built with blue bricks and green tiles. This building was one of the branches among countless branches of Mage Union. The banner on the roof was printed with a nine-petal purple flower, which was the symbol of the Mage Union- Flower of Veinys.
Although Punk didn't know why the Mage Union made the whole building of this branch green, but it at least made it very easy for him to find it.
