Rise Of The Worm Sovereign Chapter 233

Shirong stepped out of the courtyard and flew towards the Lu clan mansion where Clan head Lu and the elders were already waiting for him.
"Young master," The elders greeted.
"Mm," Shirong hummed in response before looking towards the clan head.
"Everything ready?" He asked.
"Of course, young master. We tested all aspects of the tribulation platform and everything should work perfectly as designed according to your plans." Clan head Lu replied.
"Good, we should head off then," Shirong spoke.
"Indeed, the rest of the people have already been informed so they are at the tribulation platform since last night." Clan head Lu said.
Shirong nodded his head and everyone flew to the site where the tribulation platform had been set up. The location was to the north west of the city and was located on the plains.
An area of about two square kilometers had been utilized to set up the tribulation platform, and a set of seats had been prepared at the edge of it. These were the seats where people who wanted to observe the tribulation would sit and be protected.
There were tens of thousands of seats here that surrounded the tribulation platform in a semicircle. The platform itself was made out of tiles made of jade that had been carved with numerous formations.
All these formations integrated to form a large formation array that would operate as the core of the tribulation platform. Then at the boundary of the platforms just in front of seats, another formation array was set up.
This formation array was a restraining array and would help to contain the spread of the heavenly tribulation lightning. It would make it so that the presence of all the people would be disregarded by the heavenly tribulation and they would be able to freely observe it.

Even the seats themselves were all carried with individual defensive formations that would protect the observers from the shock waves of energies created by the tribulation lightning.
There was no specific protection from lightning itself, as any formation array that could protect from heavenly lightning would be extremely valuable and difficult to make. Even the top cultivation sects would have a hard time making one, not to mention the clans here.
Even if the aristocratic clans of multiple cities were contributing to the creation of this tribulation platform, it was still beyond their capabilities. Even if they were able to come up with the monetary cost required to get the resources, they would need an actual formation grandmaster to set up the defensive formation.
A formation grandmaster was no joke and there were less than ten of them currently in the entire long continent. Each of them was a highly respected expert and no one dared to slight them. If one wanted to hire them, they would have to wait for years on end, before they would even be able to register in the queue.
Most of them had reservations that spanned for a hundred years and as such, they were extremely busy people. Shirong's clan, the Ji clan also had its own formation grandmaster and as such they were considered a great power.
That grandmaster was the reason they Shirong had the blueprints for the Tribulation platform ready when the clans said they would volunteer to build it. The blue prints were of course not used to their full potential, but it was still enough for Shirong to use it.
In fact, Shirong was confident that even if he didn't have the support of the tribulation platform, he may be able to overcome the heavenly tribulation on his own. His increased talent and body cultivation was the source of confidence for him.

"Look! It's young master Shirong!" The people in the crowd shouted upon seeing them approach.
There were many aristocrats in the crowd, including some nobles from the Ling Kingdom's royal court as well. These were the people who oversaw the operations of the nearby cities and as such had taken this opportunity to observe a heavenly tribulation.
Shirong quickly scanned over the people and soon found the few 'targets' that were deemed to be problematic. These were the people that clan head Lu had given him and thus he was going to find an opportunity to get rid of him.
"The formation array only works against the tribulation itself, it will not restrain your attacks." Clan Head Lu secretly whispered after he saw where Shirong's gaze was looking at.
"I understand," Shirong said before flying towards the center of the platform.
Meanwhile, Clan head Lu and the other higher-ups of the different clans headed to the other part of the semi-circle. Here, individual seats had been set up for the people who were going to act as Dharma protectors.
They all took their seats and waited for Shirong to take his place. After Shirong sat down in the center in a meditative pose, the clan head spoke.
"I Lu Ren, the ninth patriarch of the Lu clan, swear to the heavens that I will follow my duty as the Dharma protector for Ji Shirong of the Ji clan.
If I violate my oath, may I be exterminated by the wrath of the heavens!" Clan Head Lu declared.
A gust of wind surrounded clan Head Lu for a moment and spirit Qi became chaotic before calming down again. This meant that the heavenly oath had been accepted, and if Clan Head Lu violated this, he would die.
The other Dharma protectors took the same oath and a similar set of events was witnessed by all the people. This was the first time they were seeing so many influential elders doing the same and as such, they were a bit excited.
It was not every day that they got to witness a heavenly tribulation and they were all anticipating it to be a good experience for them.
"Now that all the Dharma protectors have taken their oaths, I shall begin my breakthrough. Everyone should know the consequences of the heavenly tribulation and as such should take precautions." Shirong said one last time before closing his eyes.

Bloodshed
Every ship has its secrets. The Bloodshed was no different. As its name suggests, this ship had seen its fair share of bloodshed. Originally, the ship was christened The Star of Orion. Over time with all the battles it endured, it quickly became known as Blood of Orion. Eventually, that morphed into the name we know today. The Star of Orion was built as a trade ship but when she was captured by pirates, she was modified and outfitted with anywhere between 15 and 30 guns. She was captained by one of the most fearsome pirates to roam the northeastern coast of North America and the southern coast of Africa, Anwen Wolfe. Anwen was known as the Wolf of the Atlantic. She captured The Star of Orion on its way to London. Little is known about what happened in their final days on the high seas, until now.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
