The Legend of Min Hong Chapter 491

"Yes, and it has been claimed that majority of the deaths within the inheritance grounds are being caused by the humans themselves, since they all kill each other to obtain whatever resources and treasures the others find…" Hun Kun continued;
"Then the last part of it is obtaining the golden pass…" Hun Kun revealed;
"The Supreme Pass?" Some experts blurted;
"Yes, it is said to be the pass of the God Realm expert himself." Hun Kun revealed…
"This pass is said to be able to access every single part of the entire academy, and it obviously protects its wielder from any sort of negative effects the academy's defense system and traps could throw at its wielder…"
"But to obtain this Supreme Pass, the expert must run a gauntlet…"
"A gauntlet!?"
"Sorry guys, but I don't know what a gauntlet is?"
"Eh?"
"I don't know what it is either…"
"What are you guys even doing with your spare time, Tch?"
The experts began to bicker amongst themselves;
"A gauntlet is simply a series of challenge that increases its difficulty level the more one progresses in these challenges…"
Huan Ji ended the bickering with an explanation before waving Hun Kun to continue his explanation;
"You're right leader, but the only difference is, in this gauntlet, one would be challenging different uniquely sophisticated beasts of increasing power level…"
"Has there ever been anyone who has obtained the Supreme Pass before?" Wei Nian asked despite knowing the obvious answer;
"Well no one has ever even progressed halfway through the gauntlet before and there has only been one person stupid enough to challenge it the last time the inheritance ground opened…"
"Eh? Who was it?"
"How come someone like that isn't popular or even in the history books?"
"Well, like I said, he was stupid enough to challenge the gauntlet, and died in the very first stage when he encountered a Peak Saint Stage Magic Beast…"
"What!?"
"P-p-peak Saint Stage!?"
Some of the experts in here stuttered in shock when they heard the weakest of the beasts in the gauntlet was a Peak Saint Stage Magic Beast...
Even Min Hong himself would be lying if he said he wasn't stunned by this revelation because he had just been speculating the possibilities of him avoiding all the hassles of obtaining other passes and simply taking on the gauntlet, but now, he was force to rethink his decision much more carefully…
"What perks does having the Supreme Pass have over the rest?"
"At least, if one is going to be risking everything to obtain it, they must know the value of what they are fighting for, right?" Gong Yi asked;
"Well, like I said earlier, the Supreme Pass would allow its wielder into any part of the academy without going through any other kind of test, and this means having the opportunity to obtain the biggest rewards the inheritance grounds have to offer…"

"Secondly, for every beast one defeats within the gauntlet, there are also several rewards which the challenger can obtain, thus, anyone who manages to challenge the gauntlet to a fair distance, like 50 percent of it, might have obtained much more treasures than anyone else who enters the inheritance grounds…" Hun Kun explained;
"Furthermore, one might also have the opportunity to see the two God Realm experts who battled here, and who knows they might also find the weapons these experts used when battling or anything else…"
"Just the idea of being in the same room with a God Realm experts must have tremendous benefits to anyone, not to talk of two, and then the idea of anything they have in their possessions…"
"I'm sure that the weakest treasure or resources in a God Realm experts possession would be more than enough to make one an overlord of the entire Dynasty…"
There was no one within the room who wasn't feeling their blood rush in excitement at the mention of possibilities of coming in contact with a Demi God or God;
It was just a thought that was in itself a blessing and source of power with tremendous possibilities…
Gong Yi looked towards Min Hong and the moment he saw that Min Hong was actually deep in thought, his heart trembled immensely;
'He isn't truly thinking about challenging the gauntlet, or is he?'
He thought in shock whilst Min Hong was busy having a conversation with Little Fei and Daniel;
"What do you think guys?"
"Do you think we can do this?"
"You know I am always after your wellbeing, but at some point we have to draw a fine line between sanity and insanity, and this is it… But I will leave the decision to you…" Daniel gave his opinion;
"Actually, with your current ability, I think you only have a 10 percent probability of making it out of the fifth level of such a gauntlet alive, no matter how miniscule you want to factor the increase in beast strength or challenge difficulty…" Little Fei responded;
"But the upside is that, it is still about five solid months away, and there is a lot of development you can possibly make in this timeframe, thus, I am not completely writing it off either…"
"But I guess we would only be able to make the right decision when the time to enter the inheritance grounds arrives and we do an estimate of your battle prowess then…" Little Fei explained;
"Whatever it might be, my primary focus of going into the inheritance grounds is to look for that thing that keeps beckoning me…" Min Hong added;
"On the upside, I am sure that if you can complete 70 percent of the gauntlet, there is nothing the Cui Super Clan inheritance ground can throw at you that would be too strong for you to handle…"

"Also, we can use the Pagoda of Ascension to also train you and put you in the best possible shape to take on the gauntlet…" Daniel also chipped in;
"He is right… Furthermore, even if we have told you to cease using your bloodline abilities for now, if you use them once-each during these gauntlet, then your probability of progressing up to 50 percent of the gauntlet would rise to about 85 percent, and that is if we consider the highest possible increment in the challenge difficulty…" Little Fei added;
"Hmm... So, what you are saying is that, if I basically cultivate the rest of my cultivation paths to their limits, challenge the Pagoda of Ascension to sharpen my battle skills, and use my three bloodline abilities one time each, I should be able to complete half of the gauntlet, right?" Min Hong asked;
"Yes, that's exactly what I am saying, but if you are lucky and the rise in difficulty of the gauntlet isn't as strong as what I am speculating it to be, then who knows, you might just be able to go further than that…" Little Fei explained;
"So, the problem is in the fact that we have little to no information on the contents of the gauntlet itself…"
"Alright, thanks a lot guys…"
Min Hong ten opened his eyes and saw Gong Yi looking straight at him with a weird gaze;
"What? Did I miss something?"
"Unh? Erm… No… It's nothing, sorry…" Gong Yi stuttered as he was caught staring;
"But generally, just being in any part of the academy alone is definitely rewarding because since it is a place to learn about cultivation, improve one's abilities and obtain powers, it surely has specific area where the disciples learn about things such as Daos, and martial arts…"
"It was even rumored that if one was able to enter the training area of the core court disciples and meditate there, that one can obtain different insights and enlightenments into the Daos, techniques and arts that were being trained in the training area…"
"There were some experts who claimed that it was even possible to see the silhouettes of these disciples displaying some overpowered techniques on the core disciple training grounds;"
"Thus, even if one doesn't obtain any treasure or resources, anyone who enters the inheritance grounds would still benefit tremendously…" Hun Kun explained;
"But whilst any amount of people can enter the inheritance grounds, only a few would benefit from it because, there are only 1,000 outer disciple passes, 100 inner disciple passes, 10 core disciple passes, and finally the only single Supreme Pass which belongs to the God Realm experts…"
"Furthermore, no matter how weak a barrier set up by a God Realm expert can be, it is not something a Peak Nirvana Stage expert can break through, and as a result, it takes a little bit of effort and resources from the Four Empires to actually breach the barrier for a certain period of time…"
"Thus, it is determined that only about 5,000 experts would be able to enter the inheritance grounds, and like I also mentioned earlier, these experts can't be older than fifty years; forty years for the outer disciple area; thirty for the inner disciple area and finally; twenty for the core disciple area…" Hun Kun revealed…
"In a bid to ensure fairness to other clans, sects, tribes and alliances; the four kingdoms would only send 10 representatives for the Imperials, and ten each from their Top 10 Super Clans..."
"This undeniably means that the Jun Empire would be taking 500 of this 5,000 slots, and it would be the same for the other three empires as well as the Fallen God Alliance…"
"That means half of the 5,000 slots has already been take up leaving only half left for everyone else…" Huan Ji chipped in;
"Yes, and the Imperials do not assign these slots to anyone which means they simply allow anyone who wants to enter to do so…"
"But there would obviously be more than 10,000 ordinary experts looking to enter the inheritance grounds…" Wei Nian pointed out;
"Well yes, and that is when the bloodshed starts…"
"Bloodshed?" Wei Nian was surprised;
"Yeah, the Imperials allow the people to battle it out amongst themselves for an opportunity to enter the inheritance grounds, whilst they simply sit back and spectate the bloodshed like some royal rumble death match…" Hun Kun explained;
"That's horrible!" Wei Nian blurted;
"Well, one the one hand, they are simply allowing those who have the ability get into the inheritance grounds, and on the other hand they simply treat the entire scenario as a source of entertainment…"
Huan Ji added as Gong Yi leaned closer to Min Hong and whispered into his ears;
"But the Long Super Clan would obviously want to enter this inheritance grounds and they aren't even part of the Top 10 Super Clans of the Empire, wouldn't that be an issue?"
Min Hong also frowned at that possibility, but after thinking about it for a while he responded;
"The Imperials would obviously find a way around it…"
"Moreover even if they can't find a way around it, the Long Super Clan on its own is very much capable of staking a claim of the remaining 2,500 slots into the inheritance grounds…" Min Hong explained…

Sufficiently Advanced
A Novella about magic vs aliens vs science. It's a raucous, campy sci-fi read involving humans gaining magic, a possibly pizza-hating alien empire, the decapitation of the US Federal Government, eldritch abominations, lesbian space witches and some medium-hard science.I wouldn't say it's not serious, but I wouldn't say it's serious. Eh, it's not serious. Wait... it's getting serious.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week.
